The treatment of trauma can be some of the most complex work practitioners face. And for years, this challenge was complicated by not having a clear picture of the impact that trauma has on the brain.
But scientific advances within just the past few years have opened the eyes of practitioners to what actually happens in the brain of someone who has experienced trauma. And according to Bessel van der Kolk, MD, there are three major ways that the brain changes in response to trauma.

I have a functionally broken brain😢most ppl don't know that the parents' emotional trauma changes their children's biology. Suffering, and my parents had lots of it, triggers changes in gene expression lasting for generations. What a tragedy! That's why so many ppl are fucked up... bc nobody knew or suspected this until fairly recently. I ruined my son's lives the way mine was ruined.
Difficulty engaging with ordinary situations! So true
Yes. I had terror as a little girl.
Thank you NICABM and Bessel for this video. I have a family member who suffered a brain hemorrhage at the age of 34 who had exactly these same symptoms but they were associated with the physical impact of her brain injury and were not understood as trauma. It has become clear to me through this video that these particular symptoms were mainly caused by this very traumatic event and not necessarily by the actual brain injury and that it could be beneficial for patients with brain injury if they could also receive trauma therapy whenever possible.
Bessel van der Kolk has written books about trauma (that may be available in your public library), including The Body Keeps the Score. There are extended videos of his talks about this book available on KZread.

Lack of interest in ordinary things.
I suppose you could say singer/songwriter Sinead O'Connor died from trauma related complications. So tragic!
