Three Regrets I Had After Buying a New Jeep Gladiator in 2024

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

First impressions, and regrets after buying the Jeep Gladiator Rubicon in 2024! There's a lot of great things with the new Jeep Gladiator, but I'd make a few changes if I had to do it again. Here's what I'd do differently if I had to buy again.

Great buy. However, were you able to get the paint color and options that you wanted at that price? I picked up a 2021 Mojave with 33K miles last Fall from a dealer for about $19K off sticker price. Still under warranty, color I wanted, and loaded with all the options I wanted, plus a few aftermarket add-ons (lessee installed, including bumper & winch, side steps, more). Not as great a buy financially as yours - obviously - but painted & equipped how I wanted it. I have 2 major complaints with my (first ever) Jeep: 1. the gutter on the removable top drains into the vehicle if door is opened during a rain event; 2. The Fox shocks are already worn to the point of creaking like an old 60's truck. Fortunately, the shocks are being replaced under warranty, but that's too quick for stock shocks to begin going out. Based on the shock issue, I bought an extended bumper to bumper warranty via Chrysler website (cheaper than dealer cost) in case other components begin to die quicker than expected. With all that said, I'm really impressed with how this JT Mojave rides & handles. It still looks great (Sarge Green) and makes me smile with every mile. No regrets. 🦆🦆O|||||||O

A great honest observation of all Jeeps! Jeeps have never been "Roomy". Ten degrees, that is a heat wave in Michigan, Minnesota, Maine, etc. I agree with your friend "Smiles per gallon, not miles per gallon". A Jeep should never be your only vehicle. I have a Tacoma quad cab for long trips! Carry on.

Take off the limiting strap on the driver side door and twist the door limiting strap 1/2 a turn or full turn. That’ll twist it up and prevent chafe. Additionally, use JScan or tazer to activate anything ya want! No dealer trips!

There have been deep discounts on leftover 2023 Gladiators, but the tradeoff is that you have to compromise by not getting some options you want and getting other options that you really don't want to pay for. I think you made a great selection.

  • @OffGridAdventure

Absolutely. There was another one a few hours away that had those options, but it was also much more expensive. The other dealer also didn’t have as many discounts.

We went from a Ram Promaster City van with a wayfarer style camping insert, 30mpg. We got a 22 Gladiator Sport S Max Tow 25mpg solo and 12mpg pulling a 4500lb gtw Cruiser Hitch 17BHS travel trailer. We use a Rightline SUV tent with a tri-fold bed cover when not bringing the trailer along. Ducks are cool. A dead pedal is a real game changer on long trips.

You cant lock front and rear axle lock in 4 high but you can use the rear locker. I have the 23 Gladiator Rubicon diesel on highway i get around 24 mpg combined i average 21. I was told after around the 2000 miles i should get a little better fuel milage just rolled around 800 miles so time will tell if it gets better fuel mileage

If you wanted more switches, personally I would stay away from the factory ones. The pins in the existing harness has to be monkeyed with to make the connections. I would check out Rough Country and Voswitch to see what they offer. Also for better lighting I too have halogens on my Wrangler and put a Diode Dynamics 30" bumper light bar on. It looks clean and cheaper than a good set of LED headlamps. Plus you can get a choice of driving, combo, white or amber.

I wired my own auxiliary fuse box located directly on top of the cover for my stock fuse box in my 2012 Ram CV minivan. The only things I have on it right now are LED pod lights and a battery tender input in case I need to charge the engine battery. I plan to add 2 more pod lights on the rear for better backup lights. I avoid the dealer like the plague! They are crooks, at least in my area of NY.

Was it a completely custom job? I’m looking at some aftermarket switch options and they seem expensive.

  • @bbol745

    @bbol745

    4 ай бұрын

@@OffGridAdventure yes, it is a custom job. I bought a cheap 6 circuit fuse block off Amazon, mounted it to the cover of my stock fuse box, ran 10AWG wire to it directly off the battery and did the rest of my wiring from there. It is important to note that I don’t intend to run any high current items off this setup, it is just for lights. As far as switches, I have 2 single switches installed next to my headlight controls. 1 for the pod lights and the other for an upgraded interior light. As I add more lights I will look into a switch panel that I install either into my dash or potentially where the rear view mirror was. I removed my windshield mounted rear view mirror because my van has no back windows and I didn’t see the point in keeping it as it was useless to me. Hope this helps.

@@OffGridAdventure Our current SUV (2009 Kia Borrego V8 rated to tow 7500 lbs and 750 lbs on the hitch is great but a bit down on payload at 1,157 lbs. Our 2,900 lb Casita camper has about 400 lbs on the hitch. Given our Borrego is 15 yo and has 160,000 miles, we are thinking about a pickup truck at the end of 2024. We prefer a midsize like the Gladiator (or other midsize trucks). I learned to drive in the late 1970s on a 1968 Jeep J-10 full-size Gladiator pickup. I have some sentimental thoughts about the Gladiator, but absolutely no loyalty to any brand. If we do a Gladiator, I would like to have north of 1,500 lbs of payload and max tow capabilities, so we will shop for the Sport S. I want to add a shell to it. I am assuming this will weigh 250 to 300 lbs, plus 350 lbs for my weight and my wife’s weight, plus 400 lbs of hitch weight that consumes about 1,000 lbs. of payload. Still at 1500 lbs, I would have 500 lbs available for camping gear. I can’t do (don’t need and can’t afford) any of the major off-road versions of the midsize trucks (TRD Pro, Pro4X, ZR2, Ranger Raptor, AT4X, Rubicon, etc.) because they are too low on payload for my needs. I want 4WD/AWD for winter driving and light off-roading but will not be doing the overlanding that you plan to do. Thanks for the quick response.

I have a 2021 Gladiator (Rubicon) -- it's my Daily Driver and has been great (just 2 minor issues), and it's still OEM/factory stock: I don't see any need for "upgrades" such as larger tires, more lift, re-gearing, or even a Tazer. It's fine as-is. AND, it's a great smooth-riding/comfortable long-distance road-trip vehicle. As for MPG numbers, you'll find you'll get WAY better than 12.9 on the hwy/Interstate. BTW, I have just over 25K miles on mine...not a whole lot in almost 3 years (33 months) of ownership. "Jeep Wave" -- BR

I got the Rugged Ridge tactical seat covers that has about 7 pouches for each seat cover for my jeep gladiator for more storage space. Works great. Don't forget that you can use your key next to the rear seat head rest to be able to lock the seat back rest so someone can't steal your stuff.👍 The 419 on the side of the bed is the area code of where the jeep gladiator is built. There's other Easter eggs on the jeeps also. People put rubber ducks on jeeps for fun. I've got about 50 ducks' from people so far. The rubber duck thing was started by a woman in Canada 🇨🇦 and has caught on all over the world. If you want to have some fun with your jeep gladiator that's fun for the whole family, then try out the Jeep invasion in Tennessee this year near the end of August. That's what I plan on doing for the 1st time. I guess there was about 50,000 jeeps' there last summer over the 3 days.

It’s a tough call. If you like it, buy it. The dealer is losing money every day that JT sits on the lot, so you might get $20-25k off MSRP at this point. I haven’t seen big discounts on the 24s. So the low prices might not last. I like the orange, and red as well. Good luck with your choice.

Maybe it's just me, I've never missed a dead pedal, especially in my gladiator, the driver side arm rest is pretty skinny and the window sill is honestly a little too high to be real comfortable, so I ride with left foot back until it hits that thing under the seat so I've got my knee up to help rest my arm on. I'm 5'10 and think I might have one of two notches left on my driver's seat

With the fuel mileage that's to be expected when you have 33"+ tires on a truck. I don't care if it's a Tacoma, Ranger, Frontier, Colorado, etc.... Their EPA fuel mileage is usually listed by the 2WD models with street tires. You toss a set of AT or MT 33" tires on them and I guarantee they will have comparable gas mileage to the Gladiator. It comes with the territory my dude. With that said, I have gotten 22 mpg on the highway in my Mojave. But that was here in Florida on a non-windy day where everything is basically flat and I kept my speed around 60-65.

Also the stop start, I’d disconnect that. 90% of engine wear comes from turning your car on. Beyond that it can warp your heads, (via cylinder deactivation) understand engines weren’t meant to be turned off n on 20 times a day. Driving habits, clean oil & inflated tires can & will save you more than cylinder deactivation. Uneven heating & cooling warps metal. Use at your own risk.

First off let me say I turn Auto start stop off every time. However your information is incorrect. Excessive heat causes warped heads. Also if this was the case then ups and fedex would be screwed and they would be replacing engines left and right. A.S.S has been around for a very long time and is safe to use. It just doesn’t save as much fuel for the general public.

@@AngryMountainMan Ok, for anyone wondering. Warped heads can have MULTIPLE causes. *primarily* *over* heating, yes. Next major cause is *uneven* heating & cooling. There is chance you go fine with Cylinder deactivation. Theirs also a good chance you're out a brand new vehicle... What is a cold hard fact, uneven heating & cooling WILL & CAN warp metal. use it at your own risk. Driving habits, clean oil & inflated tires will save 10x more than Cylinder deactivation.... Also, yes a lot of these fleet cars tear up insanely quick. We've turned away quit a few still under warrrenty.... mainly we dont machine heads..

Im a Mopar guy. I drive a RAM 1500 Bighorn and I own two Dodge Daytonas, 1985 and 1990. My RAM is my 4th, I have always been a loyal Chrysler customer. Recently I rented a truck when I was visiting my Mom in Palm Springs and I knew I had some hauling to do. Alamo offered a Chevy Colorado or similar. I got a Galdiator. It is useless for what I needed to do, the bed is so small and short, its comical. Like you said, its cramped, seriously cramped. I too activated the Emergency mode on SiriusXM...twice. The gear shifter is so close to the dash you run your knuckles into the dash when you shift into park, its awful. For the 11 days I averaged 13mpg. The Galdiator is very hard to drive on the highway at 75-80mph, it wont go straight, the slightest wind blows it all over the place and the mileage on I-10, in a stiff wind at 78 mph was 11mpg. I hated it, HATED it. What a garbage vehicle. Couldn't wait to get back into my RAM.

Good content! So....definitely do the duck thing. You never know if some little kid is waiting to see your reaction after having ducking your Jeep, and having his mom wait for you after coming out of the store. You can rotate ducks in and out so they don't take over your dash. 2nd...... name your Jeep if you want to. Jeeps are made to personalize, so personalize yours. Thirdly......get some noise cancelation / sound dampening especially on your headliner. If you're taking your family, you'll eventually want to talk. Jeeps are noisy inside without it.
