It’s definitely the case with the Wrangler. I never bought that the Gladiator had enough customers to sustain it. People want a Dodge Dakota not a Gladiator. It’s too niche for truck buyers. It’s also sad to see the Renegade and Cherokee completely collapse.

Great video and analysis. I want to know as much as possible about the Gladiator. We tow a small 2,900 lb Casita travel trailer 4,000 to 6,000 miles per year. I will be replacing our current tow vehicle at the end of 2024. I am not brand loyal. I also value reliability and safety. I did grow up in the late 1970s learning to drive on a 1968 Jeep J-10 Gladiator full-size pickup truck that my dad used to haul chainsaws and diesel fuel for his logging business, so I do have a sentimental desire for a Gladiator. However, price will easily trump sentimentality. I don’t need a major off-road truck, but I want 4WD/AWD for winter driving and light off-roading when camping (forest service roads, etc.). I would lean toward the Sport S with the max tow package. However, pricing even a non-Rubicon Gladiator is pricey!!! For that MSRP, I could easily buy a 1/2 ton truck and may consider a base trim lightly optioned 1/2 ton. Even with a 15% discount, the Gladiator Sport S optioned the way I would want it is more expensive than other nicely appointed mid-size 4WD/AWD trucks that have more features than the Gladiator. I plan to look hard at the Gladiator, but it will required a sweet deal!!! Yes, Stellantis has grossly overpriced its product!

I was a Taco fan boy 4x over. I recently bought a 2023 Gladiator Rubicon and I’ll never go back. I was worried about the whole solid front axial thing, don’t know why probably just because I never tried it and heard people actually saying they were scared to drive theirs on the freeways when semi trucks approached on the opposite side of the road. I’m not sure about the Wranglers because other than a test drive at the dealership I have no experience with them. But the whole front axial worry is way overhyped in my opinion. It’s great on road, long trips, especially offroad and honestly I’ve already forgotten about any differences between my Glad and my former Taco IFS. I love my Gladiator and it makes me sad there’s all this noise floating around about their fate. But, no,what? Heck with all that, I’m going to just enjoy the ride with a big grin on my face! ✌️

You’re right, the maverick is in a different sales class than the midsize pickup. But I included it because it still fell into truck sales…. And I was genuinely shocked that more mavericks are selling than gladiators. Just bc personally I can’t see myself in something like the maverick. That sort of seeped into the show as I was making it. (That part wasnt scripted or planned ahead)

  • @jeffreythomas4254

    @jeffreythomas4254

@mudtiremedia I'm not shocked at all. The maverick sales price is almost half of the gladiators. Alot of buyers can't afford a gladiator or full size truck. So they go to a high mileage, 30k priced truck out the door bc that is all they can afford. Same goes for the chevy trax. Sold 10's of thousands in 2023. Maybe over 100k. They get horrible reviews but sell like crazy bc they are 25k out the door for a new vehicle. Hard to pass that up for the pricepoint.

The insane thing about that is that they sell for $10k over sticker. We had customers who would special order one, and then sell it back to us at a healthy profit for them. I never understood the demand, but it was undeniably there.

Funny you mention that. Jeep EV sales are WAY UP! But then you find out that its not because people are ordering them, its because in California, where a mass of the US population resides, the dealerships are not allowed to order and keep on the lot, any Jeep that is not an EV. So this pads the number of EV sales statistics, but really its just people who dont want to wait for a custom ordered Jeep to come in.

Great question! If you have been considering the gladiator and are in the market, right now is still the time to buy. There’s no sign of Jeep bringing the MSRP down to the point it was when it was introduced, and with the 15% off, this is the closest you’ll get to having a new gladiator at a more competitive price. AND if your considering a used gladiator, buying a used gladiator for a Jeep dealer can sweeten that deal, because they know they are already having to discount brand new jeeps heavily, so they tend to mark down the used gladiators lower than their new units. I hope this helps. But honestly, the best time to buy was before the new year, when they could have pushed a gladiator out the door and still marked it off their inventory for 2023. But that time has come and gone sadly.

I totally disagree with this guy. The tacoma is 50% of the market share for midsize trucks. They have always been and always will be the king of the midsize market. The gladiator was the second best selling midsize truck in 2022 and the 4th best in 2023. They were second best selling midsize truck in 4Q 2023. They are way overpriced, but are a lifestyle truck. Idk why everyone says that the gladiator days are numbered. If that is the case wouldn't everyone besides the tacoma and maybe Colorado be numbered as well?! As a whole the midsize truck market had a drastic decline in 2023. When the 4xe comes out I see the gladiator sales going back to 2nd place in the market. Til then they will finish 3rd or 4th out of 7 midsize trucks.

But for the light trails that I take on and the small amount of use I get out of the bed, it's a perfect match for me. Like someone else said, a small V8 would have done the JT wonders. They could actually tune the V6 for more power as well.

I ended up buying a slightly used 2023 Nissan Frontier Pro4x, that does everything well (towing, payload, off-roading) for 30,000 CAD less. Sure I am not able to take the roof and doors off my Frontier, but here with the Canadian winters, I would not be able to take the Gladiators roof and doors off for six months of the year anyways. Not worth the extra $30k for the Gladiator in that context. I love my Frontier! Great video, thanks for posting.

Still waiting for my dealer to contact me on the high pressure fuel pump recall (holding my breath). Worst thing was that my Gladiator got smacked on the passenger side in January 23. Because of record snow fall in my area didn’t get my truck in until August 23. Just my luck UAW strike. My truck is still in the body shop today!! Supposedly getting it back at the end of the month. My Jeep experience has not been that great!!

Drove through the Jeep lot a couple weeks ago, almost talked myself into a Gladiator. Good price and the warranty was great. I'm not willing to go with a v6 though after hearing reviews on mpg and pulling. We have an overland trailer that I would be pulling with it. My wife's 4runner is a better option as the Jeep cost more and wouldn't pull any better from what I've seen.

Although the gladiator seems to be an awesome and fun vehicle, you can’t really expect someone to pay so much for a car that only gives you 16mpg on average driving and so little benefits to justify the asking price. If I’m expected to pay so much for a car, it better gives me some value on something (decent mpg or ride quality , tech , comfort , load capacity, reliability , etc) not just off roading .

I agree. It was a great off road capable truck, initially at its lower price point. But they are pricing their own vehicle out of reason and ruining it by doing so. Jeep sabotaged the Gladiator by never offering a v8 option, especially since everything on a 392 Wrangler is pretty much a bolt on. The price hikes have been crazy on them. You can option out a Gladiator to almost $80k, which is laughable for a mid size truck Stop sales on the diesels, manual trans, etc, plus 3.6 cam issues, diesel fuel pump issues, paint corrison, leaking axle seals, and long wait time for fixes has turned off a lot of people that have one, or wanted to buy one. Stellantis is in trouble, because they don't really have anything worth buying besides Wrangler or Gladiator anymore. I have numerous Jeeps, including a Gladiator, but Jeep needs to step up their game to keep up with the competition

Handful of things here. 1) Jeep priced the gladiator too high and refuses to put a V8 in 4000+ lb vehicle. Seems pretty self explanatory when the Chevy and Ford midsizes are no longer suffering on power. 2) not sure why the hate for the maverick, it’s literally the exact same dimensions as the old ranger. It’s literally just an updated 4 door ranger and the new ranger is the same size as the 10th gen f150

  • @mudtiremedia

I’ll admit my disdain for the maverick may be a bit ill placed. I’m not a fan of the look and style the maverick has and the fact that it is a unibody vehicle instead of a traditional truck construction. But that really boils down to the fact that the maverick was meant to be a functional economy car, like the Santa Cruz (which weirdly enough, I like how the Santa Cruz looks…)

I agree! Jeep has priced the Gladiator out of the market! It’s the most expensive mid sized pickup, that doesn’t really outshine the others to warrant the price. A new ‘23 Tacoma TRD is just over $40k. A ZR2 Colorado is just over $50k. And yet, a new Gladiator Rubi or Mojave is over $60k! I do like certain things about the Gladiator (its off-road ability and rear seating is more spacious than any other midsize truck), but the price needs to come down! It’s more like a $30k starting MSRP kind of vehicle!… and should not exceed $50k, otherwise what’s the point? It’s a midsized truck, that’s priced like a full-size!

One issue now is Stellantis Will not carry dealer stock for stock the entry level wrangler or gladiator. It’s now their policy if you want an entry level model, you have to special order it. My local Jeep dealer has a lot of gladiators on the ground at their store. But they all have prices starting in the mid to high $40,000s. 60 and 70k jeeps are ready and waiting. Oh, by the way, if you want ANY color but white, expect to whip out an extra $500 right out of the gate. Seems they don’t think having any color choice is a good plan for choosing anything other than copy paper white.

The ecodiesel is only reliable if you delete the bs govt emisions but then you have no warranty. So you have to take a $6k upcharge for the diesel, another $3k to delete and tune and end up with no warranty to fix their problem. Jeep needs to fire their ceo and find the direction of their customer base. Doesnt matter what they want or what the corrupt ass govt wants, its the customer. Things like this is exactly why i am driving 20+ year old vehicles. I have several of them and until the manufacturers get their head out of their ass ill keep wrenching on what i have.

Stellantis CEO has indicated they want to turn Jeep Wrangler - Gladiators into luxury off road vehicles to compete with Range Rover and Land Rover. Price wise Stellantis seems to have accomplished their goals. Statically most Jeeps are never taken off road. Folks that buy Rubicons, and never take them off road are wasting a lot of money on technology that they will never use. Wranglers ride rough because of the off road technology. They just don’t ride, nor are they as comfortable or luxurious, as Range Rover and Land Rovers. Wranglers are in an off road class of their own. They really had no significant competition until Ford reinvented the Bronco. There is an old saying, “If it ain’t broke don’t try to fix it.”

Our family has three gladiators. We love them. But i will say that jeep screwed up in the pricing of these. Cutting the prices on the 23s was needed. High interest rates and over production prior to the strike left them with full lots. This screwed everyone that already had a gladiator and our values have tanked. Hopefully the 24s drop with a more reasonable pricing level, and with the 23 models get cleared out, values will go back up.

I have wanted a gladiator since they came out. Was so excited waiting the reveal for the 24 models. Gladiator needs more torque. Reveal comes and nothing in regard to motor options. I caved in and bought a 23 model at a great price. 12000 off retail. I love my new gladiator. It is ridiculous off road. It has descent power if your willing to give it all that gas. More torque at lower rpms would be amazing. Couldnt hold out anymore for a diesel model. Was hoping they would have worked out the issues with it and put out a 24 diesel model. Overall love the vehicle, but i think thats where they loose alot of buyers.

The Big3 pulled out of auto shows and Super Bowl commercials, so it’s not just Jeep. Also, Stellantis got greedy and jumped the base prices of Grand Cherokee, Wrangler, and Gladiator by $7-13k from 2020-2023 depending on model and trim level. That’s unsustainable for the consumer interested in a relatively niche product and capability.

I bought my 2023 Glad Willys 11/14/2023. MSRP was $56,675. I paid $39,673. $17,002 (30%) off. There were still 2 or 3 at that price ay the time. Looked online a couple weeks ago, and prices are going back up. Lithia Tri-Cities in WA state. There are multiple Stealerships holding the line at barely under MSRP. And I guarantee those units will sit. I sure as hell wouldn't have bought at anything LESS than 20% off. No way a Gladiator is worth $50-55k to me. But at $39K? Sure. Stellantis better slow the hell down with MSRP increases. It is NOT a premium car brand - it is either an A to B mode or a toy. When I saw the prices on SxSide Rec vehicles recently, I thought what the hell? Jeep still means something to some of us, but they are quickly outpacing what their core market can afford to buy. $110-115K for a Grand Wagoneer? NO - FREAKING - WAY. By the way - ALSO an MAV hater. I bought one. This will be TLDR for most but whatever. I've watched and waited and hunted this damn trucklet since end of 2021. Between ADMs of $5-10K, trucks listed as "for sale" that weren't even on lot / were customer orders / or trying to actually ORDER one from Ford website and wait 6-12 months / and the list of BS goes on and on........Number 1 issue is the ADM. I looked at this vehicle from the perspective of "cool looking and good MPG with a reasonable amount of options if I wanna go that route" and end up with a cool trucklet that I would enjoy. Well - two full years later - I was still getting the runaround. I just bought a 2023 Mav with Tremor and XLT Lux package USED with 1,579 miles on it. A LOT of searching. Still paid $1,000 over what MSRP was, but it WAS sitting in MY DRIVEWAY. Did NOT pay $5-10k over MSRP for new that may or may not be delivered. These are indeed stupid crazy times. I - like youself - am not exactly happy with this fiasco, but I will say this - it's definitely worth pursuing. It was worth all my hours of scouring the net. And the unfortunate fact is - dealers KNOW what a hot commodity it is. And are gouging every step ofthe way. I really think it's worth over what MSRP is, and I paid accordingly. But NOT $5-10 k over MSRP. THAT said, AND UPDATE - I traded it in because I thought hmmmmm, not really a truck.

Pricing has driven many away from a number of vehicles. Look at the prices of trucks in general and look at how many are just sitting on lots. I wanted to get back into a 3/4 ton truck. I priced a Ford XLT with the 7.3 gasoline engine. The dealership was going to do me a favor by selling it at sticker - $63k. Instead, I bought a low mileage 2007 Dodge 2500 with a 5.9 Cummins. I was part of a Jeep survey group at Easter Jeep Safari a couple of years ago. I suggested they offer a more base price Jeep with locking differntials and other off road goodies as options. For the price of a Rubicon, i think I would rather buy something more basic and add some crate axles, suspension, wheels and tires. It would be more capable, and I wouldn't be stuck selling parts that I was going to change out anyway on the Rubicon. As for the Gladiator, it needs more power and a lower price. I hope Jeep gets back to giving their core customers what they want, and quit trying to make themselves a high priced, low volume brand.

20% or 15% if you actually go in to talk numbers, that number is cut in half against certain percentage like APR. I've got lease talks anywhere between 5.5% which was the lowest, all the way to about 9% of interest. So, 15% ends up being really 5% because you'll give that 15% back compare to few years ago where lease % was at about 4% but yes, we all forgot about that. :) So Jeep got plenty of room and $$$ to play with here. I'm sure will all numbers in they aren't dropping 100% of 15%

Jeep has absolutely lost their minds. I've owned countless jeeps. I was in the market for a new JL rubicon. Wanted the rubicon X. Its 73,000 msrp, then all the fees and taxes, $80,000. For a wrangler!! Then a slight build of lift, wheels, tires, and you are into it 90k. Instead of doing that, I just bought a brand new Tundra for 60k and a very nice kawasaki krx side by side for 30k. I think most people are doing this kind of analysis and not pulling the trigger on buying a jeep, which is sad. I hope they turn it around.

I wanted the Gladiator Rubicon but at $65k I went with a Sierra AT4 for the same price and got a diesel that gets 27MPG instead of the Jeeps 19ish. Plus I got all that extra space and comfort. When you push a midsize into the same price category as a specialty full-size you’re going to have your work cut out for you. The Pentastar is a good engine, we have one in our 2015 Wrangler Rubicon but it’s a dog compared to the LM2 Duramax.
