i love the tophat crystal on the pagani, absolute steal for that especially if that claimed 200m resistance holds up.

I got the San Martin, loved it! I might get the white dial on as well. This one truly disappears on the wrist. Thanks for the comparison video Jody.

Top review as always. I picked up the Pagani in the 11-11 sale and have been quite happy, plus the low cost let me pick up a few different pieces over January. Good work Jody. 👍⌚️

I don’t always think of the differences as ‘not getting it right’ so much as *sometimes* the things that prevent them being a straight clone watch. Sometimes those things work for the watch in hand, rather than the one it is homaging.

At this stage of my life, I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be able to comfortably spring for a Tudor Black Bay, 39mm Pelagos, or a Ranger. But I do love the Black Bay/Pelagos and Ranger dials and handsets. Enough so that just last night, before I saw your video, I ordered a San Martin SN0107. As I type this, I'm wearing my NTH Barracuda which is about as nice a Black Bay homage as anyone is making. I don't doubt the value of the OG. If I were younger and had never owned a Rolex, Omega, or Tudor, I would be hoarding my pennies for all three of my favorite Tudors! But will a San Martin with a Seiko drive and a NTH with a Miyota work well for me? Yep... What fun! Thanks again, Jody. Always a pleasure to get your take.

I received the Pagani as a gift recently and I put it straight onto a nice suede dark leather strap and I absolutely love it! It looks fantastic. I also love the smaller size. The NH35 is also running well at about minus 1-2 seconds per day.

I got the Dryden Ranger homage because it came out first, has a smooth highbeat Miyota 9xxx movement and has great quality finishing.

The two San Martins tried (explorer/bb36) have really impressed me for their quality. I agree with you point on cost vs the real deal, especially if you end up buying more than a few homages. I recently spent not so much on a 36mm Tisell and it’s a great little watch which looks great, but I did it with the knowledge that I don’t think I would ever spend £7k+ on a Rolex Explorer.

Great comparison review Jody. I haven't tried out the San Martin or Proxima, but I do have the Pagani Design. The best part about it for me is that lovely deep black dial. Yes the build quality and lume aren't on par with San Martin, but you don't expect it to be for the price. If San Martin added a dial like the Pagani Design one, then I think it would be even better.

I am not a fan of the ranger, but I do like non-vintage Explorer homages. Who makes the best one in your opinion? I have been keen on the Cronos. Also, keep up the good work with your channel.

Yeah I am not sure why more people don't love it?! Less than half price Explorer in a better size 🤷

Picked up the San Martin a while back, and while I guess I'm not as proud of it as if I'd put away $2.7K for the real deal, it still makes me quite happy when I wear it. The finishing is so neat, and it wears great. Having seen a couple of vs vids at this point, I think that's just the way to go.

The San Martin is really finished well. So tempting, and i’m not an homage lover. Looks great!

Just received my PD Ranger. Cost me $97AU delivered in 6 days. For a watch that will go into the collection for occasional wear, perfect little fun homage. I personally won’t wear it enough to stump up for the San Martin on this occasion, mainly because my one San Martin I do own, I do wear regularly and that’s the 50’s submariner homage the so-called “water-ghost” which is a bloody fantastic watch!

I reviewed the Pagani and enjoyed it but there are definitely some refinements that they need to make. However, for the price it is a winner. Would love to see the San Martin, always quality watches

Weird timing. I just ordered a Pagani Design PD-1751 last night. The plan is to put it on a vario leather strap. Not really a fan of bracelets. Been thinking of modding it with a green second hand. Will wait a see if it's worth it after I see it in person. Thank you Jody for the review.

Great Comparison Jody ... My Brother in Law turned up the other week with a Genuine Tudor Ranger. He waited 3 months to collect it then took it back the next day as the hands were catching ... so back to Tudor it went ! I like the Pagani and for the money would go for that !!!!!!!!!

Nice looking homage pieces. If I were to purchase one, I might opt for a sterile dial.

Huge thanks for taking a look at these 3 Ranger alternatives. I'm sure this will help many an enthusiast on a budget. It's funny how much of the Ranger experience San Martin delivers at a tiny percent of the price. They got the size right, and even offer white lume (my choice). I don't care for the shade of lume used on the Ranger, so this one is quite tempting. No T-Fit clasp of course, but the one there does look nice all things considered. I would stick with the 38.5mm version, but some people were clamoring for a 36mm Ranger. San Martin really is giving people what they want.

I have the San Martin and the PD, agree completely with your assessment! The dial on the Pagani is exceptional but the case thickness ruins the overall proportions, esp at only 36mm in diameter.

For my Pagani i've never given the thickness a thought. Some years back I did sell my 1963 chrono because of the height, but never felt it on the Pagani.

I love the comparison videos & have a lot of respect for both San Martin & Pagani Design. If San Martin gave an alternative for movement choice (say a Miyota 90 series at a slightly higher price) I"d be truly tempted as i'm impressed by the quality for money offered. That said, I would still save for the Ranger if I were inclined to want one. In my opinion, for the money asked, I don't like that the dial has printed indices instead of applied. If it did.... I'd save & buy one. I love Tudor as a brand.

Agree 100% Instead of the PT5000, give us a 9000 series.

I totally agree that I rather save and get a real Tudor Ranger than spend 300 bucks on a clonage and regret it later. The Pagani for a hundred can do the trick.

Recently purchased and reviewed my first Proxima. It is loosely based on a Chris Ward C65, and it is excellent. I actually like the fact Proxima hasn't directly homaged the Ranger, and it has the best movement. I am not a fan of the Proxima font, and I hate the unicorn when used. As usual the San Martin is excellent, but quite expensive considering it has the NH35 in it.Of course, the Pagani is the best value for money, but they always let themselves down with something

The T-fit clasp is the most significant thing missing from these, which is one of the Ranger's biggest pros. Otherwise, they look very well done.

Just landed the PD for $35 plus $20 shipping!! Unreal at that price. I'd like 2mm less crystal height and sacrifice some WR to take it down to 50m or 100m, and it would be incredible.

So the San Martin still comes in the old 'oil can' packaging as opposed to the new smaller leatherette travel packaging?

I agree with the bracelet quality compared to similarly priced Orients, Seikos etc. However, I have a couple of San Martins and whilst they are great watches I'm kind of tiring of the homage thing. I just picked up a new orient triton and get a lot more out of the watch despite the inferior bracelet.

Yeah the Black Bay Pro homage is definitely the one that had gotten me chuffed.

If San Martin used the deep black dial from the Pagani, it’ll be the perfect Ranger homage for me. Great comparison!

How does this San Martin Tudor Ranger homage compare to the San Martin "Explore Climbing" Explorer homage (SN020-G) you've reviewed very favorably on previous occasions? They have a very similar look from what I can see in the photos, although the sizes are a little different.

Both companies, Proxima and Pagani have used off-she-shelf cases to work their existing models into Ranger homages, unlike San Martin who have not. This explains the size differences als well as the use of oysterish cases and polished bezels which look totally off to me.

I would like for SM to have a white dial option.

The San Martin is what we’ve come to expect, the font on the proxima dial is clearly aimed at the 6 year old market, but not for me, an unmatched date window? I like the PD, particularly the gloss black dial.

Jody, I own about 100 or so watches and 1 Pagani, this one.. Honestly I’m the guy that won’t buy any watch with the Pagani name on it. but bought this one during the sale for like $80US. Simply too cheap to pass up and it looked great. Love the dial. With that said, amazing watch at the price.. (and thankfully only a logo dial) LOL

When you open the caseback, sometime the disappointment starts there with homages. Most of them you will see the cheap plastic ring inside that holds the movement.

Very nice, although I'd still prefer the Smiths 36mm Explorer.

Tudor Ranger was not even on my radar [forgive me Father Jody] and looking at it I'm reminded of the Panerai Radiomir dial [... forgive me again Father for lusting] .. the problem is the same if you add zeros to the price - is the Panerai [with screw in lug locks ... save me Father] worth almost 3x the price of the Tudor ?

SM have now made one with applied indices. They have sent me one in. Looks nice. I have their other version and really like it but I do feel the faux patina is a bit to faux and looks off. Great comparison video pal.

San Martin should really give us a high beat movement if they insist on charging slightly higher prices. A miyota 9000 series would be nice but even a pt5000 if they could up their qc on their internals.

I got the 36mm SM version, absolutely stunning quality. I do wish they had used a more inky black dial, but that's just me. For me it's the best AliExpress watch I've owned... And I've owned quite a few... 🤣😅😅😅

I agree, I did a video on the Pagani Ranger & it's a great watch for the low price ...I mean ...just over $100 inc delivery....how is that even possible?

Thanks for the excellent comparison video. San Martin tends to receive a lot of accolades from watch reviewers and they definitely seem to be positioning themselves at the higher end of the homage manufacturers. I don't own one yet, but I expect I'll get a San Martin this year, especially since I already own several Pagani Design homages.

The other two companies made theirs smaller because everytime they post their prototypes on reddit, they're absolutely assaulted with comment from tiny men asking them to make every watch 36mm and even smaller. There's a sizeable contingent of of size queens in watch groups that are convinced that because they have tiny wrists and because they wish watch fashion and sizing hadn't changed since the 1960, the watch industry should cater to them specifically. Unfortunately, chinese watch makers have started believing them and have forgotten that most men do in fact have 7 plus inch wrists and that, in line with today's fashion, the sweet spot size for this type of watch is 39mm or 40mm...

Pagani is the most accurate: size and glass thickness from vintage Oyster Prince by Tudor.

Ace show Jody... I have no complaints about my Pagani. But yes the lume isn't as good.

The common theme in most of these video's is San Martin is the best made watch and Pagani Design is the best value watch. It seems to run true no matter who you compare them to. Definitely two of the best brands on AliExpress.
