I've posted this separately but I'll post again here - The photographer is demonstrating how to participate in species extinction by acclimating a critically endangered group to the deadliest animal on the planet. Now that these young cheetahs associate human presence and human smells with benign safety, what happens in their future? Since there are fewer than 8,000 African cheetahs living in the wild today and about 300 are poached each year. And their range has been reduced to about 10%. So we viewers are going, awww, isn't that cute, isn't that sweet. Wild animals are not house cats, and their needs are not like house cats. If you like cat videos there are plenty on KZread. They're very cute and housecats aren't endangered. If we want cheetahs to survive at all, we need to consider what that involves.

And mom's wise enough to just keep a close watch, but not react unless it's really necessary. Glad he was able to finesse it enough to get his gear back, but the bag was definitely worth more than the jacket.

No, not really so brave considering that they're cubs, and he also knows they're not hungry. And not so lucky, either, when you consider that he spent 9 months acclimating them to his presence, presumably from their birth. A housecat raised with a pet mouse won't hunt mice. What he's filming here is his own participation in species extinction by acclimating a critically endangered group of youngsters to the deadliest animal on the planet. There are fewer than 8,000 African cheetahs living in the wild today and about 300 are poached each year. And their range has been reduced to about 10%. This is so great! I was on the Pribilof Islands, and I put my poncho down on the edge of a mudflat. As I was crawling out on the flat to photograph Red-legged Kittiwakes, I looked back and saw an arctic fox tearing up my poncho. If I stood up and yelled at him, all my stalking would be for nothing as I would scare off all the resting gulls. All I could do was mutter curses at the fox!
This film footage was priceless! I love big cats and this encounter with them was pure gold for me. What an incredible experience for you.
Sweaty socks were like catnip to my cat! She would roll around with one, purring and trilling, then pass out with her face buried in it! We called it cat dope!
In the mid 80's I was blessed to spend 5 weeks in East Africa on a photographic & geological safari. Even got to spend an overnight with Richard Leakey. Went with the curator of the Illinois museum. It was his 13th trip. This was his first actually see a cheetah hunt. It was incredible. That same trip (we were in Land Rovers with the top off) we were charged by a Rhino. She came within Inches when she remembered she left her very young baby behind. This baby was so young it was only about the size of an adult German Shepherd. Close call!!
Gordon lives a mighty charmed life.
