Three phase electricity explained (AKIO TV)

Ғылым және технология

Three phase electricity is used by machines that use so much power that a standard power outlet isn't enough. But what exactly is three phase?

In former Jugoslavija, there was household 3 phase 16A socket, that can deliver up to 11kW. Issue was, as it was intended for balanced load, neutral connection was poor, so if used on unbalanced appliance (and most often was used for stoves), neutral would burn. I like Swiss 3 phase design the most, as it can be used as single phase and 3 phase socket.

Isn’t 230V the rms value? Vmax should be 325V in the graph.

It's officially 230 per phase here, it used to be 220, and right now it's about 236. they seem to be amping it up slowly. (pun intended) for equipment it doesn't seem to matter; all things originally made for 220 work just fine at 240 as most of these devices are electrically the same as the UK versions.

Your oscilloscope trace should have shown plus/minus 325v and 650v peek to peek
