Flatirons Tuning Tech Tip - 3 parts to help you install brake ducts
We have been working on installing brake ducts on a few of our track and personal cars, and it is never as easy or straight-forward as we would like. But now we have found 3 really helpful pieces that make installing brake ducts much easier!

    rally cars with gravel set up normally don't have brake ducts. the tubing will brake by rocks. plus you never brake that hard on loose surface.

    Excited that I found your channel. Definitely curious how long you’ve been uploading on KZread so I’ll need to look at your channel and scour all of the videos that interest me. But just wanted to say you have a really cool channel i used to work in a European performance shop a lot of lotuses, Alpena BMWs, AMG black edition‘s, GT 2 or 3’s and now I’ve been a flat rate technician coming up on seven years (at a dealership 70% through master tech certification under Honda as a manufacture) and I love some good performance based modifications with solid execution and well-rounded explanations and shown knowledge.

    I was going to 3D print something like those Z06 ducts. Good to know that they are available. Have you got any problem driving the car without heat shields? I actually got what looks like heat damage on CV joint and tie rod end boots, was going to add some shielding to the boots to fix that...

    Thanks for your question! No issues with lack of dust shields so far, but if you are getting the rotors really hot, then sure that is something to keep an eye on. Thanks for watching!

    Could you use something like this on a Toyota Sienna? They are notorious for warped rotors. Nothing seems to help.

  • @FlatironsTuning

    Thanks for your question. In theory, yes you could do something like this. One of the issues with a Sienna is you would need to find a place up front to duct the air from. We actually had a Sienna for a number of years, and did experience the warped rotor issue... I'd recommend starting by using the transmission to down-shift in hills and mountains to see if that helps. It did for us. Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!

    I like the Z06 ducts but we are having clearance issues fitting them under 15in team dynamics rally wheels. Way too tight of a fit. Gonna have to fab something up with less of an angle to clear our wheels.

  • @FlatironsTuning

    @FlatironsTuning

    Sorry to hear that Robert. Yep, there isn't a lot of real estate under those 15" wheels. What diameter hose are you running? It might help to try something like a 2" hose maybe? If you are going to the caliper, you may have to go smaller than that to get enough room to work. Good luck with the project and thanks for watching!

  • @jonathanchen4109
    @jonathanchen41096 жыл бұрын

    you can run the hose from bumper to the caliper, plastic channel is not necessary. a longer hope provide better flexibility so it won't brake as often.

    Do you know if those lambert ducts will fit on an 08 narrow body wrx? Or anything that will?

  • @FlatironsTuning

    Not at this time. All of the WRX's from 08-14 have a dust shield that is captured between the hub and the knuckle. So there isn't anything for the ducts to attach to unfortunately. If you need ducting, the WiseFab knuckles, or STI knuckles would offer the best solution. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!

    Did you guys ever source covers for the '08-'14 kit?

  • @FlatironsTuning

    @FlatironsTuning

    4 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for your question. Because the dust shield on the 8-14 WRX is sandwiched between the bearing and the knuckle, there is almost no way to get something else installed there instead. We ended up cutting up the stock dust shield and riveting on a round fitting that let us attach a brake hose to the knuckle. Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!

    Are these brake ducts available for a GC impreza? Thanks for your time.

  • @FlatironsTuning

    Thanks for your question. The Corvette ducts will be helpful, but they will require some customization. The ducts that bolt to the knuckle may not be the same for the GC. We'll have to see what we can figure out there. They attach with the same bolts as the backing plate, and they may well be different...

    What did you use to secure the duct to the front end of the duct to the fog light opening? I see a round piece with 4 bolts through that, have a part number?

  • @FlatironsTuning

    Thanks for your question. That part is not longer made unfortunately. It was just a simple 3" pipe with the flat base to attach to the foglight. We have found some similar pieces through Aircraft Spruce, but I can't remember exactly what they were called off the top of my head. Take a look at their catalog, and I'd bet you can find something. @@FlatironsTuning no I'm was referring to how you got the hose to attach to the duct itself, not how you attached the duct to the fender well area. Did you use a worm gear clamp?

    We have installed ducts on our 2014 WRX, and a 2011 STI. You have to customize the fitting on either one, similar to this, and the WRX does not have a good solution to run the duct to the knuckle due to the dust shield being sandwiched between the hub and knuckle. But yes, the Z06 ducts are a good starting point.

    For most of us we would only need the duct, that should direct enough cooling for street cars

  • @FlatironsTuning

    @FlatironsTuning

    4 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for the comment. Yes, for a street car, most likely you would never need any ducting. The repetitive corners of a circuit are what can really put the heat into your braking system that requires this kind of cooling. Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!
