After months have passed without a culprit in her daughter's murder case, Mildred Hayes makes a bold move, painting three signs leading into her town with a controversial message directed at William Willoughby, the town's revered chief of police. When his second-in-command, Officer Dixon -- an immature mother's boy with a penchant for violence -- gets involved, the battle is only exacerbated.

She wasn't my favorite actress, but in this movie she really got me.. . The way we see her silent pain and wrath... The scene with the priest in her kitchen is my favorite, stuck in my mind for days....

American Eugenics Movement, more like. Early part of the 1900's; they wanted to use animal-breeding techniques to improve segments of the human race. Selective breeding, ruthless culling, tailored diets/exercise, selective education, no choice in marriage. A future accountant doesn't need upper body strength, a laborer doesn't need mental acuity. Specialize, specialize, specialize. All the way to your DNA. Career criminals were to be given the choice of castration or death. Same with mental defectives and "those of low moral standards" US was sterilizing native American women into the 1970's! Hitler got his 'crazy ideas' from the good ole USA, hunny.

When someone you love disappears, is raped or murdered, and it appears to you that law enforcement isn't doing their job to find your loved one and/or the people responsible for their rape or murder, you won't be philosophizing about what is or isn't ethical. You'll be wanting ANYTHING and EVERYTHING done, including torture, to get to the bottom of the situation as quickly as possible. It's easy as hell when you're not in that situation.

I have so much respect for the character Mildred, she is a very self empowered woman, she does not at all play the victim! She sets boundaries ASAP, maybe went to far with the dentist, but I think we can all identify with that. But she sure stands up for women's rights and well the rights of anyone whom has been victimized, a very strong character for people to learn from.

If it was a big wig who had a crime against them they'd pull satellite images, cell phone activity, credit card activity, they'd pull fibers off the body that would tell what the perpetrator was wearing, and give clues to what he was driving, hair color, even if they couldn't match his DNA they could tell his genetic profile, they could find relatives by comparing his DNA to databases at sites like 23andMe, you think the NSA didn't have the phone call between Travon Martin and his female friend? the justice system is two-tiered in multiple ways.
