3:05 His little voice crack is just astounding to me. It's something that always happen when one gets too emotional, it doesn't even feel like acting. I don't even know how anyone can reach that level of acting, that level of total immersion in the scene and in the character. Both of them are fantastic, but Adam was out of this world in this movie.

His voice crack, and the sound of his delivery on the word "die". I feel like it's a mix of rage but also the very very end of the word sounds like it's suddenly being taken back because deep down he knows he doesn't mean it, but his anger is pouring out of him and he's let it build to using those words. This scene breaks me every time. 💔

This movie was very personal for me. I was a child of divorced parents and this scene brought back some painful memories of my parents arguments. I remember just putting a pillow over my ears, to try and suppress the raised voices of the things they dare to say to each other. It was something that crushed me as a child. I’m 23 now happily in love with someone and hope to pick my partner wisely without having to relive that hurt again. I’m not looking for perfection, only trust and comfort.

Do people really though? The words have to come from somewhere in our brains. In my experience, people say the things they truly think when they're angry, because their internal censors are down. Our better natures may feel bad about thinking stuff like this, but it never seems likely to me that we truly "didn't mean" them.

@@madtitan0825 In the first movie he wasn't really established as a considerable threat. This was due to how an untrained rey was able to fight him off with a lightsaber. There were a number of times he could use his force power to end the fight instantly, and it would have been more significant if they saved han's death for the second film. In the second movie, the badguys needed a win. That's usually where they get the win. But instead, they lose their leader, a massive star ship, are unable to take revenge on luke who simply vanishes, and Kylo barely gets used in that film. The throne room fight is..... lol. Seriously, check out shadiversities autopsy of that fight, its hillarious. We've got vanishing daggers, rey bieng sliced in the stomach (the troopers decide, you know what, i'ma miss!) But there's an absolute abundance of it which is a shame. I can't speak for the final film, but its bieng compared to an abusive relationship. So yeah he was certainly wasted, but like i said, he was by far the best thing the trilogy had going for it. He was supposed to be this extremely angry person. Rage empowers the darkside. Wouldn't it have been cool if we saw that reflected in his power? When he's raging in that control room, instead of just his light saber, the force violently ripples out and destroys those nearby troopers after the "Nope" scene. Wouldn't it be cool if when he got angry, the force empowered everything he did, making dueling meaningless unless rey trained to a point that she could negate the force itself and stabilize the area first. Stuff like that would have been really cool to establish him as a real threat, and would have made it that much more cool and convincing when he turned to the light.

This is one of the most well acted scenes I’ve ever seen and this should be studied in classrooms to show how one’s job should be when it comes time to perform.

Everything is meant in the moment. You can say you were angry, scared, drunk, whatever. In these moments you say what you really mean. The only reason he apologised after saying he wishes she was dead is because that's not an acceptable thing to say when the only reason you're together is because of your kid. He didn't wish she was dead because then his son doesn't have a mother. Take the kid out of it and he'd still think it and probably wouldn't apologise, because he truly wishes he could get away from her for good.

The anguish coursing through Adam is so real, I only hit this kind of peak of anguish & anger & sadness & hate & pain once in my life, but your brain just causes this wild whirlwind of vicious awful thoughts even if you don’t verbalize them and you just want it to stop. It makes you grab your head and scream out, almost to exhaust yourself and also crowd-out the thoughts. When someone you truly love betrays you in a way you never thought possible, it’s like throwing antimatter into your brain. Your whole world view erupts in fire & conflict.

@@SOak145 I guess you were in coma for 9 years but Phoenix's performance in The Master is WIDELY regarded and agreed as THE best performance of the entire 2010s decade, not something I am making up myself. Day Lewis' portrayal of Lincoln was NEVER even close as good as Phoenix's masterfully nuanced portrayal of Freddie Quell... at ALL!! Almost everyone today who knows even a basic thing about acting agrees that Phoenix was just simply better and gave not only the best performance of 2012 but also arguably the best performance of the entire decade. I got it that you are a sweaty Day Lewis fanboy but time to face the facts. And yes, Phoenix in The Master makes a pitch perfect candidate for performance of the decade. It's not just me but a huge huge group of bloggers, websites and passionate moviegoers who believe that Joaquin Phoenix in The Master is arguably the best acting performance of the decade. You like Day Lewis more?? Fine. I am giving you a widely agreed opinion/fact. I am not even a Joaquin Phoenix fan, but I gotta be very honest.
