Lee Pace such good actor but the Production didn't bring justice to this character ㅠㅠ there's deep history behind his pride and charisma but he's depicted as like the Father who doesn't want his son to love and greedy for just jewel. Thranduil is born in the first age in times of war(the hobbit is during 3rd age) His family was killed by their own kin; lost his mother at young age, he fought in the war of wrath; lost his father and 2/3 of their army, he became king found peace by closing himself and his kingdom to outside. but his wife died. In the book he went for war for his wife's jewelry, he asked the dwarves to make one but not white ones, its green and white, her wife wasn't able to wear it bcus she presumably died on her journey . But at the end of the hobbit he Forgave the dwarves and he placed the arkenstone in Thorin's tomb it was beautiful moment they shouldn't left that out. Even in the lotr he was so wounded he didn't fought in Mordor but in the northern wars because it's in Mordor his father died. There's no love left on him because he was so wounded he cannot even go near to it and he cannot die because of the kingdom. He's also so baddass because he's the only elf who doesn't need the power of a ring to win in wars and protect his kingdom he only uses what he have

It really helped that both actors are quite tall with long slender builds (Lee Pace is 6’5”and Cate Blanchett is 5’9”) which gives off an ethereal, graceful vibe.

Lee Pace performance as Thranduil is better than the whole Rings of Power Series.

God I’d forgive miscast characters but they’re both horribly miscast and horribly written. An insult to Tolkien’s world. The Hobbit and LOTR trilogies gave their highs and lows but at least they’re not consisting of an almost entirely miscast lineup.

What do elves look like? Have you ever seen an elf? Elves are mythological figures that exist all over the world: in Europe, in Africa, in Asia, in America. And just like humans look a little different everywhere, elves also look a little different everywhere. The same goes for mermaids, by the way. PS: In Iceland, the country where elves even have rights, elves are palm-sized creatures. So these Jackson elves don't look like elves either ;)

I haven’t read the lore...but what i found from various sources...i wish The Hobbit movie did more justice to Thranduils character. Why he is behaving like this,what is his past,all of his struggles,his fathers death,his wives death.....everything, every pain that he endured,that made him the man he is. Unlike Galadriel,Elrond or Gandalf,he was the only one who didn’t have any magical ring. Yet he was a King,a very powerful one.He had to save his people. I feel like he is misunderstood by many who don't know the lore. Also,Thranduil is the most elegant looking elf beside Galadriel from LOTR.

I don't think there is much to tell about him, the books dont give him much lore. I don't know about his father's death, but I do know that his wife death was never mentioned in the books, that's what I've heard anyway. For all we know Thranduil's wife could actually be all well and alive.

In deed, In the book he is much more friendly and not AS COLD as P.J.wrongly showed him. He was a wise ruler, he and his people endured as the last elven kingdom, when all the others were destroyed. He fought many wars against sauron and the orks in the past. After the ring was gone, Thranduil and Celeborn healed the mirkwood forest and gave him his beauty back.

They actually wrote and filmed in part a backstory for Tranduil but it was left. I wish one day Peter Jackson and crew will show it all. At least they are making some more movies with the right team.

Even though I have never seen him properly in the movies and the books, I feel deep respect for Thranduil. I get why he'd never want to sacrifice the lives of the Elves for the sake of a cause no matter how noble and right, and though many may see that as cowardice, it's just a wise and fair king doing his job to determine what he feels is best for his people. I see where Legolas gets his beauty, his elegance, his fierce spirit and everblazing heart. Elegant! Veryyy elegant~!

I think those who hold the power in the world must make the best decisions period, not the best decisions for the group they have the most emotional attachment/bias for.

It's so sad they left out the part where Gandalf says to Thranduil that the gems aren't going to bring her back (or something like that). Idk why they would leave that out, because people who haven't read the books, wouldn't understand why he wants the gems so badly and why he's so closed off

Gandalf didn’t say that, what he told Thranduil was: “Those gems were not all your wife left you, my friend. She left you a son [Legolas]. Tell me, which would she have you value more?” To which Thranduil stared at Gandalf in shock, because Thranduil realized that he’d jeopardized his relationship with his son over some heirlooms, when in fact, Legolas is far more important than those jewels.

Thranduil is by far teh most elflike elf, and even his movements and speech are wonderfully crafted by the actor. He really excels at being in full makeup. Funny thing was, the only time I saw him in a part where he was just a soldier with no special effected makeup, he looked way more odd as a normal guy than even as Ronan.

The sheer skill Lee Pace has as an actor is just beautiful to watch. If you saw his audition read tape for Thranduil, his voice alone portrayed the power of his character, the control he had, the strength of his experience, yet the pain of his loss.

Lee Pace really did homework to make Thranduil so memorable. Now I really need that live action scenes where the Mirkwood fought against Sauron's armies. Wish they could've made it into series at least, not by Amazon ofc

No other actors fit for the role of Thranduil but Lee Pace.

I love how at 3:16 Thranduil is just like: Wtf is that? Is it spiders? I don't like spiders.

The scene with him revealing his true face is my favorite in the trilogy... Just a perfect character moment, highlighting him and thorin Thorin, whos way in over his head and has not a clue what hes actually doing, hes just too stubborn to quit. And thandriul who is clever cunning and ruthless, obviously he plans to use thorin to futher his own agenda, and he just lies the entire time.

Yaaas! Thank you so much for leaving the dialog in. That voice just gives me chills. In a good way!

Definition of an elf.....a very hot one....

I don't remember who said it, but Thranduil IS an elvish superstar. Beautiful, capable and cocky/arogant 😅. Lee Pace was fantastic in the role.

If only Rings of power had their elves like this...

Probably when the seasons progressed the hairs get longer. For now its short on purpose?

As mere human, I simply cannot imagine living like the elves, after 2000 or 4000 years, waking up in the morning and thinking, yet another day to live, and there's shall be no end. Us human, max is 100 years and we take most days for granted.

Just these few scenes highlight how bad the ROP series is. Jackson's elves were so well done. Beautiful.

As awkward and hit-or-miss as the Hobbit films are, they absolutely nailed Lee Pace as Thranduil - in voice and appearance both.

I miss when elves looked like this he looked amazing like a other world king magical and powerful the elves in the Rings of Power look like fancy dress and worse
