In a lot of ways, Dropout exists to find ways for Sam Reich to give his friends stuff, & I love that.

This so specifically works because this cast knows what makes each other laugh and have great reactions, and that’s because Dropout actually believes in investing in talent for the long term 👏

I've been watching Game Changer lately, and the chemistry between these people is just magical. There was this one episode where Grant O'Brien had to step away for a moment, and he was like "No roasting me while I'm gone." While he was gone, the other contestants immediately started rattling off a list of all the things they like and admire about Grant, just really genuine compliments about what a great guy he is. Of course, the second he came back they were like "...and he has a weird face, and he's too tall." (Well, something like that anyway I don't remember the exact words)

I’m happy if other ppl are loving Dropout. It doesn’t feel as good as the bread and butter solid sketch writing of College Hunor during the Jake-Amir-Patrick-Dan-Streeter-Jeff days or the Owen-Patrick-Adam-Murphy-Emily days. You can enjoy each others company and make ambitious products
Ah so now i see why the game changer prizes have been smaller

You know that dropout is successful when they drop a show where they spend 5k every episode

@@katmiaou yes but you have to concider that most big streaming services and production companies drop larger amounts of money for big serialised stories and epic dramas, not funny game shows. And of course Dropout had no particular big funding behind it either. It's just a nice way to see how far they've come is all :)

Oh I can guarantee you they spend a lot more per episode... of anything. But you are right - it's great to see how much they spend to give their cast just a good time in general, while giving us all the warm fuzzies and comedy we crave from our subscription. (EDIT: Though I do have to add, I love the cheeky "torture" of their cast in GameChanger as well. It's all done in good fun and with consent (spicy level).)

That is such a beautiful thought, glad I could contribute as well and can’t wait for this show!!!
I once heard Sam Reich on a podcast say that a great deal of the appeal of Dropout is the sense of friendship. That watching these people feels like hanging out with friends. That part of what Dropout is selling is a vibe, a feeling of comraderie and enjoying seeing people who enjoy eachother's company interact. So I fully believe, if this show wasn't his idea to begin with, that he definitely said "You're a f**king genius!" to whoever brought it to him. 😂 "Hey Sam, I was thinking of a show where we all just buy each other stuff and then play with it like the children we all are at heart." "Greenlit! But only if I get to be on it so I can buy things for somebody!"
@symliadoo

THIS!! I love the dynamics of all of the cast members and it only becomes more fun when you watch other shows and see the same folks + see them make reappearances in the show, because it truly DOES feel like it's a fun friend group and they're all having a great time :)
I love what this represents, in that you don’t need to be loaded to have the time of your life. A lot of game shows and reality TV have an emphasis on wealth, which is really unhealthy for those in the real world. This is refreshing.
@Wack.d
Ай бұрын
I kind of got the opposite: you do kind of need to be loaded to drop $1000 on anything, which is why these people aren't doing these things on their own, they're doing it in the context of using the production budget of a game show
@elkwolf2888

@@Wack.d I get what you’re saying, but plenty of normal people save up to go to Disney World and that’s more than a $1000. I just find this concept fun because it’s more attainable than some other things while still being quirky and fun.

so this is basically "we gave some great people some money to spend on fun and silly things with friends" the show--which means we get to watch great people have fun w fun and silly things and events w their friends. and also therefore get some cool ideas for parties and games to play, ourselves, w our own friends. this is just a show abt happy ridiculous friend times and i'm here for it ☺

I think what's most adorable about this is that none of these guys are famous celebrities, they're all smaller comedians. $1000 is very likely so much to each of these people and saying "this is for genuine fun, do whatever you would like with it!" is probably such an awesome rush of serotonin. Especially since you get to spend it on the people you care about.
