Thoughts on Training Bent Arm Press to Handstand

Спорт

Just a short video talking about the bent arm press to handstand.
This was actually the first press variation I learned due to my form and technique at the time.
Is it wrong to do it this way? Only if your intention is to perform a straight arm press.
This variation is a bit more physically demanding than a straight arm press, but the technique is more simple. The bent arms lowers your center of mass to make balance easy, and give you better leverage for getting your hips up.
I think a lot of people would find this method of pressing easier, especially those who struggle with hip mobility.
Does that mean you should forego your regular press training in lieu of this? Not at all. They are different movements with their own benefits and drawbacks.
I see the bent arm press more in the handstand pushup category. Actually though, the way I teach it is to begin as if you were doing a straight arm press and only bend the arms when you need extra leverage. That way you can still get the best of both worlds.
Give it a try and let me know how it goes.

ba presses are definitly harder for me than sa presses. i think it has something to do with a lack of rotation in my elbows or wrists.

Yuri have you ever had wrist injuries? I know the common conditioning and warm up routines to ensure a great warm up but are long last aches common? Thanks

i've had plenty of wrist injuries, but none of them handstand related. I can't answer your question here because there are too many potential variables. I would have to see what you're doing and an online consult is a better way to get a precise answer some wrist soreness is normal with a long term hand balance practice, but that's the most general answer I can give. warmup is important but so is technique

@@yurimar hi, thanks for the response, I appreciate its a very open question. A consult may be an option that I would consider. But at the minute I can't even do a down dog pose never mind a push up. I can hyper extend reasonably well in free air but applying weight is a no no. As I said, I really appreciate the response. Great post BTW. 👍

How will I exit a bent arm stand if I'm falling forward, I'm scared I will break my neck because my head will be closer to the ground, please tell me a way.

Either your head and roll, or cart wheel out of it. But if you don’t have the strength to control the position, focus on that first
