Some thoughts on Training the Kick-up to Handstand
Being able to enter a handstand consistently is just as important as the balance itself when it comes to performing freestanding handstands.
Unfortunately, the kick-up is often a movement that is neglected when training when in fact it is quite crucial. Training the kickup to handstand on it's own can greatly increase the confidence and consistency of your freestanding handstand.
This video includes a few thoughts on how I like to teach it.

That’s exactly where I’m stuck - my shoulders aren’t moving with my kick up and was trying to figure it out. Thanks. I’ll look into that.
Thank you so much for this video. It is by far the best kick up to handstand on KZread (I would know because I spent hours watching them all). I still can’t believe how fast it helped.
Fantastic video. It makes it less scary.
I love this drill, I sneak a few (10-20) in whenever, wherever and at home as a "sitting too much" break. It helped me understand "pushing the floor away" and "opening the shoulders" which fixes my under-balancing tendency. I revised my training to several short spurts throughout the day instead of 2-3 hours at the gym, its been 2 years of my handstand blitz 6 days a week and I still explore refinements details for progress and inspiration which your tutorials are so helpful. Thank you so much!!!
There's just something about how you teach/approach exercise/movement that really resonates with me. I've gone through so many different resources and whilst some do cover the right technical cues, the way you explain the purpose and focus to aim for really makes all the difference!
such great and accessible to my level information! thank you
“Rolling a ball” that phrase really got me to do it right, I pushed too hard and didn’t do it slowly and steadily
I can already tell you are going to help me so much on my road to freestanding :))
I like the sound effects
