Thoughts on the Asus Zephyrus G14 after owning it for 3 weeks.

In this video I discuss some of the most noticeable aspects in early ownership of the G14 while providing an overview of what it has to offer. If you have any questions about the G14 post them in the comments and I'll try to get you an answer.

    I’ve had the Ryzen 7 model with SN beginning with L8 for a few days now and I love it. The fingerprint scanner works as well as iPhone finger print scanners. It likes a certain part of my finger and it doesn’t work great if your hands aren’t clean so it’s very standard for current scanners. After a software update I found that my cpu temp and voltage disappeared on armoury crate but there’s an easy fix for that on Reddit. There’s a slight whining noise in the fans even on silent mode which I don’t notice if I have music or a video on but for web browsing it’s kind of annoying in a silent room. I’ll probably end up making a custom profile without the fans for this just for web browsing and light work. I’ve only played the sims 4 on it so far on performance mode and cpu hit 63 C. The keyboard and trackpad are fantastic and I have no issues with the backlighting on my model. This is my first gaming laptop and I’m just getting into the tech world but so far I love my g14 and I’m excited to make some tweaks to make it the perfect laptop for me

    @@sidsambrano1660 Hey I love the Ryzen 7. I'm using it for casual gaming and uni work. The only major differences between the two in my country are the SSD size and the graphics card, neither of which are big deals to me since I don't play play first person shooters and I don't play anything competitively. So far I've played the Sims 4 and Detroit: Become Human on it and the graphics are stunning. Maybe look into how the different graphics cards perform with the types of games you play and decide if it's worth it for you to spend the extra money on graphics

    @@gamerspoint4256 After over a year and a half it’s still great! For reference I have the 2020 model. Lately I’ve played Red Dead II and Detroit Become Human on it and they both worked really well. I clean the fans out manually every four-ish months. Learning how to do that is honestly a dealbreaker for owning the G14 because the fans run all the time and can pull in a lot of dust. I also definitely recommend disabling turbo to keep the temps down as it can get very hot. By doing that and cleaning out my fans I never hit above 80c on my most intensive games. I’d also recommend propping it up a bit if you’re worried about the heat to help the airflow which is usually what I do if I’m gaming in the summer. My keyboard and trackpad still work perfectly and only a tiny bit of the coating has flaked off where I bumped it against something. I play most of my titles off an external SSD to save space and I haven’t had any issues there. I’ve also done uni work and some light coding on it and it’s been great for both of those. The only headaches I’ve run into are software problems but that isn’t G14 exclusive at all-from what I’ve heard it’s an ASUS problem.

    In the Armory crate software, If you go in to "System" under the "device" tab and then click on "GPU Power Saving" you will see a button labelled "Stop All". Click it and it will end all processes on the discrete GPU. Hope this helps! EDIT: The G14 has to be on battery to be able to do this. Not sure why that would need to be a requirement but hey. I guess you don't really need to turn off a discrete GPU when you're on AC power anyway.

To answer your question, you could change its mode to silent (two-click process) or you could create your own profile settings/curves (takes a bit more effort). • @AndrewThrasher1987

    @AndrewThrasher1987

    3 жыл бұрын

    The keyboard backlighting is pretty bad. The issue is that the silver keys reflect light from the screen, which often ends up being very close in color to the backlighting. If there's a saving grace to this design flaw, it's that the reflectiveness of the silver keys actually makes them very easy to see with the backlighting disabled. I use it in dimly lit situations with the backlighting off and haven't had too much issue. In short, the backlighting sucks, but I don't think it's a dealbreaker.

    I got the xxxxx-IV model which pair 4800HS with 'mere" gtx 1650. Also add RAM to 24gb. I think for 1080p screen this is more than enough to play games at somewhat high settings. Here the configuration price is comparable with ultrabook using 4700u so it's a no brainer for me, got faster cpu and dedicated gpu. Screw the webcam, lol

    Hi, so you mean that a 4800HS is worse than a ultrabook with 4700u ?

  • @internetw4nk3r74

    @@RFRAUL i think i never said that. Performancewise 4800hs is better than 4700u. But laptop with 4700u is much thinner because of lower wattage. The price, here, is almost similar, so i took the thicker one.

    Look, I've got to get a laptop for school and I want this laptops specs, but I absolutely hate how it looks. It's so fucking ugly imo. I am even considering the MacBook air m1 because of this. It's pretty comparable tbh so I'm considering it. Also the screen is fucking ugly.
