What is the origin of this recording? It looks like a kinescope but I can't tell if the film scratches are from the original film sources used to air or the fact that this recording IS a kinescope. Is this a domestic video recording from the local air? The whites are way blown out. There are so many different media artifacts present I can't tell which is from what. The look of this recording is very strange to me and I'd love to know how this was saved. Thanks!

Hi, this IS a kinescope, and certainly one of the poorest we've seen. The upload is sourced from a new 4K scan of the 16mm print. The whites are truly as blown out as they appear. There are definitely scratches/dirt in the original film sources that were broadcast (that look to be part of the scan-lines in the image), as well as a few on the physical kinescope print we scanned (or that were introduced in the process of our print being made back in the '60s). Either way, no doubt the image looks really bizarre but is kinda fitting given the subject matter. Thanks for watching!
