Maurice and Robin are twins… I just learned about this recently, watching KZread. Very talented brothers, all of them.💗 No auto tune, just pure and beautiful singing.💖

One of the most beautiful songs ever written and sung by one of the most incredible groups ever in the history of of music.

They were the kings of falsetto harmonies, and Barry was the emperor.

This is what love songs used to sound like. The songs were written to the girl, not about her.

They sure had that and sure did that, live especially and for sure in the early days, but isn’t this just a video recorded to the already mixed studio version, with at times more than three vocal tracks? (Like Barry adding high notes on top of their harmony with him also in it..?)

@@Silber7 - I think it all depended on how they wrote any song . . . most of them could be sung live quite easily for them. But some like this one with so many harmonies involved was just too difficult to do live . . . from what I recall now, I think this one had up to 8 multi-layers of them put together for some parts - and then they also sang it live here as well along with the live band/orch playing in just 1 take . . .

@@Silber7 I think older people like me who lived through that era are so excited to showcase this music to the younger generations that we can overstate things sometimes. They were an amazing talent, but like all music videos that aren't actual live concerts, we're listening to the studio album version of the song with all the multi-tracking. It doesn't take anything at all away from their talent. We're right about one thing, however; no auto tune.

Barry did this in the studio.There are dozens of overdubs and it was very well staged.Google it if you doubt me. Still a beautiful masterpiece

*ALL THE SONGS* they wrote for other artists too. Islands in the Stream for Dolly Parton & Kenny Rogers, Chain Reaction for Diana Ross, Woman in Love for Barbra Streisand, the title song for Grease, the songs for Saturday Night Fever, To Love Somebody which was written for Otis Redding but he died before he could record it... and more.

This is an example of what they call "Blood Harmony". For some reason, when you get a group of family members singing together, they way their voices blend is almost other-worldly.

They are one of the best selling groups of all time, had best selling albums in four decades, wrote hundreds of songs for themselves and other artists and they are still underrated as writers and singers. No autotune, 3 singing into one mic and sounds like that. Crazy! The tallest brother Barry in the only still alive. Andy is the youngest, 4th brother who also had a successful solo career. The Bee Gees are the 2nd most successful songwriters in music history according to the Guinness Book Of World Records, had 5 songs in the top 10 in the Spring of 1978, 6 consecutive number 1's, and 3rd on Billboards Hot 100. Could sing and play Rock, R&B, Folk, Country, and Gospel. These dudes are untouchable.

@@tonya6107, that’s probably because they looked it them objectively. The Rolling Stones made a top 100 songwriter list and the The Bee Gees landed at 93. Vast majority that ranked higher on that list wrote far fewer total songs and top hits.

Why do people get this so wrong? It's a fantastc song, but it's certainly not 3 singing into one mic. You must be deaf if you think that. This is the mixing. The recording process was the longest of all the tracks on Spirits Having Flown as there are nine layers of three-part harmony, creating 27 voices, though the high falsetto voices are the most pronounced in the final mix:

So the one in the middle is Barry. He’s the oldest and generally the lead singer. The clean shaven on Barry’s right is Robin. The one on Barry’s left with a beard, mustache and balding is Maurice (pronounced Morris). Both Robin and Maurice are gone now (Maurice for about 20 years and Robin for just over 10). There was a fourth brother named Andy. He was the youngest. He was primarily a solo artist but did perform with his older brothers from time to time. Andy died in 1988 at the age of 30 from natural causes stemming from years of substance abuse. So today, Barry is technically the only one left though he does perform quite a bit with his oldest son, Stephen Gibb.

​@@amtrak7394No. Just to name a couple of their early songs, Barry sang lead on "Words" and "To Love Somebody" and he did not sing falsetto. The falsetto came along later.

It does my heart good to see this generation enjoy the music of my youth.

Started singing together in the 1950’s. Hits in the 60’s through the 2000’s. 5 decades of hits. The only group to ever have 5 songs in the top ten at the same time. The fabulous Brothers Gibb wrote all of their own songs, and wrote for other artists. They wrote over 1,000 songs.

It never seemed fair to me - Barry got the looks, the hair, the height, voice (of course they all sound great), and now he is the last one alive. Maybe it's just me.

One of the greatest things about Barry is that he literally could have chosen any woman he wanted back in the day.......and he DID......his wife Linda......54 years later they are still happily married. Amazing.

I was A Junior in High school when this song came out I remember first school dance I asked the Girl of my Dreams to the Dance she said yes 40 + years Later we are still Dancing too this Classic this is real Music

If you've never heard the BeeGees' song, "Stayin' Alive," or watched the movie, "Saturday Night Fever" with John Travolta, I highly recommend that song and video. It's a very different kind of song from the BeeGees, which demonstrates their exceptional range as singers and songwriters. By the way, the tallest lead singer is the oldest brother, Barry. The other bearded one is Maurice, and the clean-shaven one is Robin. They're twins.

We began to take their talent for granted. Some 40 plus years later Im constantly blown away by what we had during that era. Priceless and timeless.

It is a beautiful song, you're right they were such a talented family, they had another younger brother, Andy Gibb, who had some solo singles and used to join his older brothers on stage at times. I didn't recognize the song from the title, but a split second of hearing it was all I needed. The Bee Gees were my mother's band when I was a small boy.

Robin has a unique sounding voice, it trembles when he sings and it sounds like he’s crying in some songs with his voice hi lighted. Check out their disco era, Staying Alive, Nights on Broadway, Night Fever, Fanny be Tender with my Love. After disco era, One, For Whom the Bell Tolls. Their earlier music was also sooo good, Run to Me, How Can You Mend a Broken Heart, Words, I Started a Joke….there’s just too many to even mention them all

Robin sang a natural raw Vibrato never to be matched, even Today 2023

I was married one year (1977) before this was released in 1978. This would have been in our wedding. Love, love, love the Bee Gees. I am a black female, 68 yrs. old, grew up with them. (A bit lengthy, but a must read.) The Bees Gees: (from left to right) Robin, Barry and Maurice (pronounced Morris) Robin (Dec 22, 1949 - May 20, 2012) passed away as a result of kidney failure. Maurice (Dec 22, 1949 - Jan. 12, 2003.) Passed as a result of a twisted intestine. He was in the hospital for 2 days. Barry said he had a heart attack, but the doctors still operated. He left behind his wife, Yvonne and two children. Robin left behind his wife, Dwina and 4 children. Maurice and Robin were fraternal twins. Andy Gibb, the youngest brother, had his own successful career. He was 12 yrs younger than Barry. He and Barry looked so much alike, that they could had been twins. Andy passed away in 1988, at the age of 30. Barry stated that Andy lived the 'LA lifestyle' involving drugs, and he had heart problems. Andy left behind a daughter. The brothers wrote all of his songs. Barry stated, "I am the last man standing." He was born September 1, 1946. He has 5 adult children and 7 grandkids. On September 1, 2023, he and his wife Linda will celebrate their 53rd wedding anniversary. (They were married on his 24th birthday.) On a side note, the first born is their sister, Lesley, who turned 78 January 12, 2023. Maurice passed on the same day as her 58th birthday. Lesley didn't have an interest to be in the limelight, but she can sing. At about the age of 2, Barry reached on the table and a pot of hot tea fell on his chest and arms. You can see the shine on his chest. His mom said he almost died, and he did not talk for almost 2 yrs. Skin grafts were not used in the 40s, so he was in the hospital for a long time. They wrote all of their songs, and songs for other singers, which they sang after the songs were released by the other singers. The brothers have a VERY IMPRESSIVE catalogue of songs! Barry was a ladies' man. He kept rings for different girls. Maurice was quiet. He liked photography.

Barry Just had a birthday 77 years old. Maurice on the right passed away in 2003. Robin on the left passed away in 2012. They also had a younger brother Andy Gibb who had a solo career. He did have drug & alcohol addictions and it weakend his heart and he passed away in 1980 just after he turned 30. They were all amazing. Check out some of Andy Gibbs songs.

To my ears their early material is their best and I would recommend "Words", "How Can You Mend An Open Heart" and "To Love Somebody" as songs you will love! This was from 1976. If you see and listen to their One Night Only from Vegas in 1997, they still had it over the years. Sadly we lost Robin Gibb and Maurice Gibb and little brother Andy Gibb but we still have Barry (the middle guy with the voice). They are from Australia and have been performing since the 60s. I enjoy your reactions because you really seem to enjoy new to you music. The Brothers wrote the songs and music for Barbara Streisand's album "Guilty". Barry sings "guilty" with her. For some reason no one reacts to Barbara, maybe because everyone knows her. She did a live concert in her backyard and Barry shows up for a couple songs. I honestly can't think of a male group that can compare to the BeeGees. Forget the Temptations or Back Street Boys or Boyz2Men. It's like comparing good, great to OMG 😂 You can only think of a few girls' groups who could pull off this insane level of vocal ability plus harmonic fullness. And this doesn't even call into question the lyrics. This song is simply one of the most beautifully written songs in pop music history.

The Bee Gees were 4 musical brothers which included the youngest brother Andy Gibb. The brothers performing from left to right were Robin, Barry and Maurice, with Barry being the only one still alive. The Bee Gees started in the 60s, but didn't become well known until the late 70s when they performed many songs for the movie Saturday Night Fever. Andy performed with them on occasion and had short solo career. But drugs and alcohol cut his life short. He was married to Victoria Principle in the 80s.

I love every time they sing "too". The timing and phrasing are so very good.

You should react to TIME IS PASSING BY. Barry had that same confidence at age 13. He knew at 8 years old what he was going to do. They not only had the natural gift and dream, but even as kids had such a passion and work ethic that was needed to achieve their decades of success.

Middle singer is Barry Gibb. Other two are twins (don't recall their names). They had a fourth brother, Andy I think, who mainly performed solo. Barry is the only survivor among the four, the eldest, and the person who formed the band. The band name is either from Barry Gibb's initials, or, more likely, from the Brothers Gibb. Or both. Maurice and Robin are the twins. The name was taken from Brothers Gibb. Andy died young of an OD. Maurice died suddenly in his 50s of a bowel obstruction ( twisted). Robin died just over a decade ago of cancer.

Andy died from myocarditis......inflammation of heart muscle caused by a virus. His heart was weakened by cocaine abuse but he did not OD

The crazy part is they had been performing on TV for about 20 when this song came out. There is a video on youtube of them in black in white in the 1950s.

I felt Andy Gibb was a larger than life talent too and such heartbreak behind the music which I can’t help feeling lends to the dynamics of each. Thank you, I would be remiss to not also mention how well your reaction to this really captured the song/voices depth. Began listening to Bee Gees thru their song How Can You mend a Broken Heart in high school days when I experienced first and lost love. there was a 4th brother, Andy Gibb, who was several years younger than the other 3. check out his songs 'I Just Want to be your Everything' and 'Shadow Dancing'. His brothers produced and sang backup vocals on it. He sadly passed away very young at age 30.

The Bee Gees are iconic. There is actually a fourth Gibb brother. His name is Andy Gibb. You check his videos out also! “I just want to be your everything” Is one of his most famous / popular songs that came out in 1977. 😎✌️
