Yes that was good trick from Thorin to kill Azog after sacrofacing yourself to Azog, but if Thorin wanted to survive and live after that fight. He should have got out from the ice after Azog fell under the ice.

Even if it differs in plotline and physics from the original story, I'm still impressed with how much work the production team did. Incredible acting award goes to both Richard Armitage and Manu Bennett

@@RatchetandSly at the cost of sounding incoherent, I believe the physics were off, as in the original story Dáin chopped off Azog's head and here in one point Thorin just threw Azog's flail back at him to make him sink under the ice. In the movies, LotR villains are distractingly cartoonish, unfortunately. Like in this scene, Thorin uses an oversized weapon against a small opponent so 1. he can't hit his target, and 2. he is constantly pulled off balanced by his own weapon. Some great warrior huh? Snore.

So let's get this straight. It takes multiple high impact hits with a roughly 150-200lb stone mace to begin chipping the ice enough that it starts to break. Yet, an orc being overcome with hypothermia and floating horizontally, somehow has enough kinetic energy instantly built up in a non-existent swim to not only break the ice, but shatter it and launch three feet into the air. Where did all this energy come from?

Thorin knew if he was going down he was taking his enemy with him. Thrain sacrificed himself to protect his son, but Thorn would’ve made his nephews is heirs. But both Kili and Fili died. So that was heartbreaking

Azog’s weapon definitely wasn’t very good for fighting on ice. That weapon requires a high amount of momentum to have maximum effectiveness. But attacks with a lot of momentum are counterproductive when done while standing on ice.

Love the sound of the Orc horns. And just love that look of arrogant confidence in Azog's face knowing the 2nd army has arrived and all would be over. Just he didn't realize that all would be over for him as well.

Good lord, the music...Anyone else notice that when Thorin accepts his fate and the one chance to bring Azog down with him, there is the briefest and most regal hint of the theme played when the eagles rescue him in the first movie? Just haunting...
