I loved that moment when I first saw it, I went downstairs in my childhood home and kept saying "supreme commander" and laughing to myself, loved kinsley getting put in his place, my mother was confused till she went "oh well, youre the same as your big brother (who is also a huge nerd like me and does the same stuff, confusing to those who dont know what hes going on about :D)

I absolutely LOVE how Thor totally puts Kinsey in his place all while basically saying that if Earth wants to remain friendly with the asgards; he better not change a damn thing with the SGC. Not really Thor said it was the opinion of the Asgard High Command and 'preferred' that the SG1 remain under General Hammond's command. They would still be allies with the Tau'ri if command changed but they would prefer to talk with those that they are more familiar with like Jack, Sam, Daniel, Teal'c and or General Hammond. Also the reward of Asgard Weapons and Shields for the Tau'ri ships was the main selling point.

As much as I adore Thor in this scene, that final 'don't let the door hit you' smirk from Hammond was priceless. Two absolute legends in the same room. Didn't happen enough. Both sorely missed.

Vlad Bayard the problem was how SGU was executed. Your right Earth was the strongest presence in two galaxies. That was what got me interested in Universe a group thrown from all those resources forced to fend for themselves and find a way home. However Universe stripped away so much that made Stargate fun. Replacing it with a lot of drama a lot of fans including myself didn't come to watch for Stargate. I applaud them for trying something new but the result was pathetic and killed the franchise

Not only that but it's going to be a trilogy. And the creators never like SG1 apparently that's why they wanna go and redo it all.

After the years it still amazes me how simple talking and effects can make chills every time I look at this and similar scenes from SG1.

CGI was never what made SG1 great. It was 1st class story telling. 1st class character development and great character arcs that made SG1 great! They didn’t focus on massive story arcs but characters arcs. It WAS ok to miss one episode, no stress. It’s like coming back to your family. I can’t cope anymore with those 8-12 episode storyarcs that are modern right now… no emotional attachment to the characters, just feeling an obligation to watch the remaining episodes because you already wasted time on the first two without a satisfying ending.

I love the little 'meet and greet' between Hammond and Thor before the meeting. It's like being in a meeting with the big dogs of the group then letting them know that you are on first name basis with the biggest dog of them all. Lol

Love this scene. One of my favorites in the entire series. Watching Thor put Kinsey in his place with "Supreme Commander" and his finger up is so very satisfying. And watching all the ambassadors change their minds when reality sets in for them as well...priceless.

Don s Davis is sorely missed. He was in my opinion, the heart of sg1.

too bad he didn't do anything to take care of his heart condition and diabetes. I didn't like him much but he grew on me. But I think he should have lost weight and ate better. Lots of famous people passing from completely curable or preventable diseases. Jim hensen for one died of treatable sickness. Akira Toriyama just died because he didn't pay attention and bumped hhis head giving him a sub dermal hemotoma. The new Checov from star trek ran himself over, car squished him between it and the garage. All these things and it makes me sad. Even David Carrodine, died from auto erotic asphyxiation. All these people could have been alive today but no...

I just love general Chekov and anybody that knows the series, knows he was killed in the confrontation with the Ori at the super gate. A really cool character and a great guy!

One of the best scenes EVER.

I've always liked this scene.. not just b/c Thor upstaged Sen. Kinsey, but b/c the Asgard appears to have a similar style of government (remember the ep where they made Jack testify in front of an Asgard committee?) so Thor knew /exactly/ what was up here.

Ronny Cox seems to excel in portraying characters who are pompous, power-hungry, pricks.

Have a watch of Gray Lady Down for a different perspective ... I was maybe fifteen when I first saw the film and the scene where Cmdr. David Samuelson, played by Ronny Cox, saves the sub has stayed with me as an example of self-sacrificing courage to this day.

I agree that he played Kinsey as a manipulative, condescending, power hungry slimeball very well. But he played Capt. Bogomil pretty much the opposite, in the Beverly Hills Cop franchise.

he played a temp captain on star trek TNG , he made Troi wear the right uniform, made shorter shifts on rotation, promoted data. He was a great captain, but Riker was a dick to him. Was the only time i felt bad for the guy. Ronny was playing a good guy but was treated like a villain.

yeah its interesting how humans on earth 1)became best friends with basically the most powerful race in 2 galaxies and 2)borderline made peace with a race of beings who have to hunt us down in order to live.3)learned how to jurry rig a stargate and infact are in so much control they can shut it with an iron gate basically and constantly are montoring the gate to know when someone uses it.4)made one of the most powerful cities their home 5)were the ones mostly responsible for making the galaxy a safer and more free place.

I love Thor so much, he genuinely respects humans and loves it when more primitive species become developed enough to truly speak with him and the Asgard

Well they weren't that powerful. After all they couldn't beat the Replicators. They had to much high end tech that had no effect on the Replicators. Luckily though the gun toting American's had inferior technology that kicked those Replicator circuits

Actually... when Americans stoop onto the Replicators it was their actions that reactivated the dormant and trapped Replicators. Replicators where and extremely hard enemy so another approach was devised by the so-called Fuhrlings that worked for millenia to come. After that Asurans became a myth and all data regarding "the incident" was covered up by the Lantean High Council and the planet was isolated and labeled as a no-go zone by those aware of events that transpired there. The so-called Todd the Wraith played his part in aiding the Fuhrlings in stopping the Asuran threat. The same Wraith actually helped once in saving earth from destruction. His swore never to reveal the location of Earth and he actually did keep his word. The hard part to accept about the Lanteans is that they actually were not as "enlightened" and "innocent" as they appear. They also had their agenda that started many conflicts and costs unimaginable amount of lives and suffering all across the known universe. Even as we speak the modern day America is under corrupt ascended Lantean control. So what do You think about this concept for a SG movie? :)

well...I think its more than obvious that asgards could make our guns for themselves like nothing, maybe they just wanted to use humans as human shield :D...its all BS that asgards would need some humans for anything, they are way smarter and advanced so they could come up with some more advanced solution...also replicator circuits were kicked by weapon made by antics....as for the idea of replicators, its like nanites that can replicate themselves...ultimate weapon...and ultimately bad idea to make one...

Ronny Cox sure did an excellent job of portraying Sen Kinsey as a real SOB.

Thor really knows how to make an entrance!

the way they ended them was dumb, just as dumb as how they ended Atlantis. just blow up the world and fly back to earth. Leave the wraith in tact and still culling the humans. Really p me off

Sci-fi has become too popular and profitable and saturated ... so now it abandons the special genre interests of the niche audience and waters itself down to lowest-common-denominator mediocrity and multi-genre crap wearing trappings of sci-fi to attract the interests of wider audiences. Made by more people who just follow the money, they often don't understand sci-fi, they often don't even _like_ sci-fi, it shows in the shows.

That "preferred" was really a warning. Hehehehehe

I just saw this on my latest binge. I must of rewatched this particular part many, many, times. I just love how they crafted the ending.

"Senator..._kinsey_" sounded more like senator turd to me! Love the script-writers!

I assume the flash of light is simply Asgard teleportation technology, based on various other instances when people were "beamed" to and from Asgard vessels, so in fact Thor is alive and well directly in front of them.

The single best moment in SG-1 when Thor gives Kinsey that proverbial slap.

"please drop in anytime" he took that literally. =)

Really shoulda went *Staring for a few moments.* Hammond: "Good afternoon Thor." Thor: "To you as well General Hammond. You requested my presence?" Though I'll admit, the goodbye was perfect.

This has to be my favourite scene throughout the whole stargate franchise 👽

"You came all this way just to tell us that?" lol! When you have a ship like Thor's, or any of the great Asgard ships, really, going to earth for an extended errand (like here), or even just a drop-in, or both in this case, is no more than just going around the corner for him... I love this scene so much.

Yeah tbh even older asgard vessels like Thor's could make the trip across the milxy way in a day, and he can also remote pilot the ship via a neural subspace link while he's on earth so it can be off flying around doiing other things if he wants and pop by to pick him up after lol

I love how Thor says: "It is preferred" using a tone of voice that instantly tells you that what he really means is: "That's an absolute condition. You don't want to want to know what happens if you don't meet our demand." And Kinsey instantly understands. Like a true politician should.

Well, he went out of his way to say "this is NOT an absolute condition, but it _is_ preferred". That's diplomacy code for "yes, you can actually put someone else, but better if that's for a REAL BLOODY GOOD reason that you can convince us about, and not for political petty infighting". That makes his move even better.

I like Hammond's glance over at Kinsey as he asks "Senator?" It was a look that meant "Eat some crow,Kinsey"!

Supreme Commander thor..watching this epic scene so many times gives me a great pleasure.

Thor says General first reffering to Hammond and Hammond calls him just Thor. Thats there is mutual respect for military ranking, even for two different species.

What I always liked about Stargate was that the Americans were equal to all other nations, none of this exceptionalism crap People like Kinsey and Maybourne were villains This show made humans properly equal

hehe now every time one of my teachers calls me by a name i respond with " Its supreme student"

This scene made the whole episode worth it.

That was the best "clip show" episode ever!

If I were the President here I'd be calling Kinsey in and ripping him a new one. This was supposed to be an important mission to bring in the other major governments and he decided to use it to ham-handedly trash the SGC and play his own political games.
