Thank you Thomas and Polestar for having a focus on reducing CO2 in the production stage.
Just some added details: Polestar was originally a separate company focused on making performance/racing parts and enhancements for Volvos. Volvo acquired Polestar in 2015, similar to how Mercedes acquired AMG to become its performance brand. After having several Volvo models marketed as "Polestar" versions, along with a few concept cars, it was decided to spin Polestar off as a separate brand focused on either hybrid or electric drivetrains. So Polestar was not originally created by Volvo from scratch.

Exactly. Polestar was Flash, a Swedish racing company. Dates back to the mid 1990s.

@@benjaminsmith2287 Thank you both for added context about the history of Polestar. A lot of the Tesla fan media dismiss them as "just owned by Volvo/Geely" but it seems like they have potential.

@@Nphen The Geely ownership is overblown.. Geely is a good parent company in that while they're not totally hands off with these brands, they're closer to it than other parent companies..
The internet brings much bad with the good, but interviews like this where we are given decent insight directly from leaders of companies is wonderful. One thing I’d like to see is more in depth conversations from these auto CEOs about how they really plan to wind down the ICE biz while ramping up the EV biz…this is the great juggling act that is behind the wisdom and skills of most CEOs.
Totally brilliant. The podcast got better the longer you went. The concept of sustainable manufacturing was a real eye-opener for me. This is a great initiative on your part.
Thanks YT for suggesting this video. Well done. A great addition to the Munro Live stable

Love to hear Sandy and Co. “preach the gospel” of clean design in whatever format. Looking forward to whatever is coming up next.
Now i learned why Teslas seats are so comfy, they got help from Volvo 👌🏻🇸🇪
Let's go!
Lots of good comments. I like the fact that we are seeing the CEO of a company share his vision. This is a great contract to noise we are normally subject to. This is excellent !
Hell yeah… big step Munro team. Congrats! Excited to hear these in the years to come.

Awesome, thanks Eric & team!! I'll be watching these in-depth podcasts as they arrive - just have to get up an hour earlier to watch them (or 45 minutes & 1.5x speed if I sleep in;)🕐

WE LOVE ❤️ THE CAMERAS TOO 🤗💚💚💚
Great video 👍🏻 I’ve been driving my Polestar 2 since October 2020 and have been into the brand ever since. Have a Polestar 3 on order, so looking forward to getting into that next.
Tip for Thomas,i would use in Sun visor instead of mirror another screen for front facing camera, would really be helpful in night driving on narrow roads when facing another vehicle to have a one second look to keep calm if there is enough space for two vehicles when approaching each other, there is degree of uncertainty from lights,and i see some people install some times on the back facing mirror itself this tipe of camera with screen for better night vision for this cases
I wish the team can incorporate atleast major topic timestamp. If per topic is too much. Maybe have atleast 4/5 😍

😎 *Ingenlath carefully chooses his words with surgical dexterity!* Lol. No wonder he is a CEO.
Why is the podcast not on Tune-In?
GREAT that Sandy and Munro Live start doing Podcasts!!! Mr Ingenlath was talking a lot, but for me it was not really going deep. Just scratching the surface. Too much overall stuff, nothing really concrete.... and I'm hearing too much from the "old" approach of making cars. Relaying too much on the Volvo environment regarding development. On Sandys concrete question what Polestar plans to build in House, the answer was long and talking around, but at the end it was clear, the answer Sandy was looking for was "nothing". All done with suppliers. I wish Polestar all the best that they find their way. But I can imagine that they are remaining a niche player.
@4puf

Absolutely agree with you! A lot of Bla, bla and nothing concrete! I do still hope for polestar to be successful though, we need more EV competition!
@benjaminsmith2287

What's wrong with a niche player? Polestar does have some in-house development but it makes sense for them to use suppliers and the know-how and capability of their sister company and their parent company to develop their cars. They have an R&D center in England where they have some unique Polestar engineering/tuning going on.
POLESTAR ❤️❤️❤️
Can anyone tell what kind of jacket Thomas is wearing?
This set design kind of has a back ally garage vibe and the spray painted logo stenciling on that cinder block wall looks like a graffitised version of Munro Live, kind of gives it a weird retropunk look.
You should post these to the main channel. Few see them otherwise
I liked the guy and his commitment to CO2 elimination.
Hi Sandy, we’re you able to request a factory visit of the North Carolina factory during your time together with polestar?

Nice to see "Tom Cruise" been interviewed by Sandy😂
@21:00 Munro: Japandi is the word you are looking for. Japanese-Scandinavian. And oh, scandinavian design is not only from Sweden. It is also from Denmark, Norway and Finland. You will probably find, that much of the Scandinavian furniture, Americans like, is from all of the Scandinavian countries rather than being just from Sweden.
Haha I thought Sandy was interviewing Tom Cruise when I saw the thumbnail!!!!
This is a pretty harsh listen while in the car because those mics are attached to that giant resonating metal desk. Every time Monroe raps his knuckles on that thing its an incredible bass hit on the speakers. Just saying, audio a bit rough.
On the rear view camera thing, the problem I have with my Toyota Sienna review camera is it’s already fading. The image quality is all washed out after 10 years. They need to make these components easily swappable before the become mandatory.
I love the fact the chairs are Tesla LOL
Id like to hear Thomas respond to how poorly the Polestar 2 rated in JD Power being bottom of list in build quality and reliability. What are his plans to improve it?
@danharold3087
Жыл бұрын
JD powers may not the place to look for unbiased automotive information. JD powers depends on companies paying them to advertise that fact that JD powers liked them. This creates a bias for companies that choose to advertise that fact that JD powers likes them. JD powers likes them because they are paying JD powers money. It is not unlike circular logic.
This is obvious that Geely rules in terms of skeleton and internal elements. Nice however that they rely on scandinavian center for design of most of their brands. I thought Polestar 4 would not be evoked, but it was too short, and no SEA platform mention.
@benjaminsmith2287
Жыл бұрын
Polestar 3 is almost all Volvo. Geely has some overlap overall on lower priced platforms but from what I heard from Thomas, except for the 4, the cars are mostly Volvo based. And Volvo is putting in a lot of their own chosen electronics, safety systems and the platform work on SPA2 was done by Volvo. Volvo's lower priced cars will be on SEA and maybe a few others. We'll see in time.
They're talking Polestar seated on Tesla car seats .. Hilarious 😂
@mho0

But if I got it right they were designed by ex-Volvo designer ... so almost like at home for Thomas.
Wish there was a transcript.
Happy to hear the new Polestar is completely different than the 2. Test drove a 2 and while it is a fine car compared to an ICE it was lagging behind you know who in almost every area and the interior was disappointing.
Polestar has great designed electric vehicles.
Volvo was something i loved but going to to EV there was no option as you know. Hopefully all gets the works done.
Tesla seats
Please bring in guests who answer questions, instead of going around the question, such as whether it makes other parts in hous, more a car seats. Otherwise it was a good interview. 😊
I find people in fancy environments get complacent. A seat in a lean cave gives more of a fight to the engineers
Munro no longer doing business in China due to a DoD contract. Does that mean that we might see Munro do reviews of some Chinese EVs? Or are there residual contractual constraints? I would really, really like to see video on one or more of the ~$10k Chinese EVs like the Wuling Bingo. If it meets US/EU safety standards it looks like an excellent city/second car for many. And I'd love to see a video on one or more of the ~30k Chinese EVs that are starting to be exported. My guess is that the future market is going to be dominated by Tesla and a handful of Chinese EV makers. If the Chinese companies are bringing quality to the market. At the minimum Munro could do Detroit a favor by showing them what the competition is bringing. They missed, obviously, the Japanese invasion back in the 1970s.
Ask him if he loves the Tesla seat desk chairs

Yes! Totally dismiss his experience, expertise and responsibility and try to force the Tesla fan-boy agenda.
Software programmers fall into 3 categories: 1) Operating system, 2) Batch processing, 3) Real time/Process control. There is little movement between these groups. There is a 4th which implements the Graphical User Interface (GUI) but they have a significantly different skill set as the programming is a small part of the overall implementation, it's the design that takes the skill.

I was really excited about Polestar taking on Tesla but their pricing is way too high. I'm just not interested at those levels. Polestar 4 RWD starting at 60k USD? No thanks.

Absolutely correct. They are cool EVs at least aesthetically. The price is not competitive though.
@benjaminsmith2287

@@fcv1967 The price is the price. Those familiar with Polestar Volvos (XC60 Polestar, S60 Polestar) don't find the price high one bit. Plus, this is a small premium brand, not a low priced brand. The Polestar 5 and 6 will be even more expensive. The 4 is actually affordable for a Polestar.
