1:47 They made that noise by just picking a random clip from the episode and playing it fast. Keep in mind the original dub was British, and Ringo Starr was the narrator of the British version. They just didn't change it when they re-dubbed for the American audience. Also keep in mind the well known American dub is the SECOND American dub, the original just had Ringo Starr replace a few words of the existing British dub with some American railroad terms, instead of the British railway terms, like replacing Trucks with Cars, Points with Switches, etc.

@@NyteMaere It's rare and hard to find. I didn't even know it existed until I accidently stumbled upon it. To fully understand the story, you need to know how it was aired back in the day. It was normal for Cartoons on British TV to only be 5 minutes long, played back to back without adverts between on the BBC, or just randomly played as filled on BBC1, because Adverts aren't allowed on BBC1, at all. The only adverts you ever see on BBC1 are between shows, and specifically advertising stuff that will be shown on the BBC, like "New show, watch it on BBC2 at 10pm wednesdays!" or "The news is starting in 1 minute" air fillers. On American TV, Thomas was part of a show called Shining Time Station, the 5 minute cartoon format doesn't fit as well, as they typically use a 11 minutes on, 4 minutes of adverts formula. So to make 5 minute thomas episodes fit into the 11 minute time slot, they added a couple of minutes of Filler with "Mr Conductor" telling a story, which was actually usually more than one story, in a show that ran for much longer. Ringo Star was the original Mr Conductor. But this also says why there's a Mr Conductor in The Magic Railway, and why later seasons were read by Alec Baldwin. I know George Carling became the narrator early on too. I think part of the reason later seasons were extended to 6 and a half minutes was to better fit into the 11 miunte timeslot. Remove the end credits from the first episode, and the starting credits from the second, and have them wedged back to back with a title card between, and you have 11 miuntes.
