In my history 110 class, my professor explained to us that Thomas Edison did not "invent" the lightbulb. In fact, the lightbulb was created in the mid 1800's but it was Thomas Edison who worked on the lightbulb and made it more efficient.

Edison did more than improve it, his carbon filament and electrical support system made it viable.

Luckyneli3, your Professor was high on drugs, yes people tried to invent the light bulb, but they didn't have the basis of how to get to that point. Edison found the concept of inventing the light bulb to make it work in a practical way. So yes he succeeded while others failed.

I am reminded of the phrase "average people have great ideas; legends have great execution" Edison was a person committed to execution, he stayed with it; until it was economic. Until a few minutes ago I hadn't even heard of Kean University. This KZread channel changed that..... Lewis Latimer is the one that invented the carbon filament and even invented the process to make those filaments. Thomas was stuck on the paper filament

I thought that Edison's breakthrough was to use tungsten for the filament and to put nitrogen in the glass bubble. Mucho trial and error, he tested numerous metals and metallic compounds.

Tesla never invented electricity ....AC was invented before he was even born...he invented AC motor which made it easy to transport and he was not the sole inventor of that motor ..an Italian scientist too received the patent for it

@@lambsauce8172 it was never between edison and Tesla , that's a debunked myth, it was Edison vs George Westinghouse...AC vs DC .....G Westinghouse had already bought Tesla's patent for AC motor

Technically it’s legally correct to call it Edison’s lightbulb BUT he is NOT the inventor. The only bright idea about it that came from Edison was the marketing and employing those like Tesla who were intelligent enough to do the actual work .
