Thomanerchor Leipzig | "h-Moll-Messe" Johann Sebastian Bach (BWV 232) | Thomaskirche Leipzig (2000)

Thomanerchor Leipzig | "h-Moll-Messe" Johann Sebastian Bach (BWV 232) | Thomaskirche Leipzig (2000)
Solisten: Ruth Holton (Sopran) | Matthias Rexroth (Altus) | Christoph Genz (Tenor) | Klaus Mertens (Bass)

Bach keeps hitting me with his flame of faith, his immaculate counterpoint, intertwining melodies that lead to such sublime harmony and perfect productions; lyrical in their melodies and heartbreaking in the mood of their solos struck by faith- not melancholy, hopefulness- not desperation and, most of all, the unquestionable flame of religious faith that J. S. Bach had. Amazing music director, instrumentalists, choral and solos...

Bach's Spirit really was there - in the beautiful Thomaskirche - no doubt the Grand Master of Baroque Music would have enjoyed the performance of (t)his Divine Music by the Thomanerchor incredibly much. I eally like the way they decorated Mr. Bach's grave with lovely flowers, it touches my heart.. "Requiescat In Pace", dear Johann Sebastian Bach - gone but never to be forgotten. This recording is a commemorative concert for the 250th anniversary of the death of Johann Sebastian Bach, which took place on July 28, 2000 in the Thomaskirche in Leipzig. As is well known, the Thomaskirche is the place where Bach worked as a cantor for more than 25 years. The performers of this recording are thus the direct followers of Bach's tradition and the concert is reminiscent of the musical services of that time.

This is: "Kyrie eleison (2nd)" Four-part chorus (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass) in F-sharp minor, marked "alla breve", and (in the 1748-50 score)"stromenti in unisono". Autograph time signature is ₵. Stauffer points out (p. 49)that "the four-part vocal writing... points to a model conceived outside the context of a five-voice Mass."

Why should the members of the public be facing ech others in a concert instead of facing the orchestra. It certainly would restrain my concentration. Still one other argument against attending real concerts when it is now possible to listen to excellent recordings on television and in much better conditions of sound and personnal confort..
