In 2018, the popular British talent show "Britain's Got Talent" (BGT) featured an eclectic mix of contestants. The show was hosted by the beloved duo Ant and Dec, and judged by industry veterans Simon Cowell, David Walliams, Alesha Dixon, and Amanda Holden. One standout performance came from Olena, a musician from Russia who played the jaw harp, or "khomus." Her unique instrument and haunting melodies captured the audience's attention, and even earned her a spot in the semifinals. Despite not making it to the finals, Olena's performance on BGT helped to introduce the world to the beauty and complexity of the jaw harp and other traditional Russian instruments.

Hello from India 🇮🇳. This type of musical instrument is very famous in Tribal Belt of Gujarat , India 🇮🇳. It is bit risky also to play. If played unprofessionally , it might cut tongue. This is a good performance with traditional costume. Congrats

The name of this instrument is kopuz. You were once ruled by the Turks, so you may have some of our works left behind as well.
Olena Uutai reached the Semi-Finals of BGT in Series 12 (2018). She began her Semi-Final by bashing a flat drum using what appeared to be an ivory tusk, while howling like a wolf. She then continued to play the jaw-harp, while making various animal noises, including birds and, once again, horses. She was was eliminated.

She's probably a Native Siberian, or at least part Native Siberian. They are more closely related to Alaskan/northern Canada Native Americans, both genetically and in culture than they are to actual Russians. That said, she does look like she has a bit of European in her.

The Sakha are a Turkic people and really have nothing to do with the Russians who are Slavs. Unfortunately, the only thing they have in common is that they have been living in the same country since the middle of the 17th century when Imperial Russia colonized them.
