In 1996, a 9 year old Derick was lucky enough to meet Jaromir Jagr at an autograph signing. I asked him if his hand hurt from signing so many things and he smiled at me and said "I'm tough". Such a simple interaction but it meant everything at the time. Glad to see him get a banner!

I was lucky enough to get his autograph in 1991 when I was 13. He was a deer in headlights, just singing cards as fast as he could. But he stuck it out and signed everything. Was a true sport from the beginning!

I'm certainly not a Penguins fan, but I grew up watching 68 dominate the NHL in the 90s and the ceremony brought tears to my eyes. A truly beautiful tribute to one of the all time greats.

I'm a die hard flyers fan...always have been always will be. But, surprisingly enough, never truly despised the Penguins until after the days of Super Mario and Jaromir-The Master of Longevity-Jagr. For this, Congrats Jagr. You will always be hockey hero. And remember folks: FOR THOSE ABOUT TOO MULLET WE SALUTE YOU!!!

The reason why they havent done this earlier is because usually they do this after the player has ended the career but this guy just never quit!

I'm a Kings fan, but Facebook reminded me that today made 7 years to the day I drove down from college, back to LA, to see Jagr play for the Panthers against the Kings. I had a weird feeling that would be my last chance to get to see him and I wasn't wrong. Crazy to think how his NHL career is over, but I'm so happy he still gets to see all the love the fans have for him all around the league. I haven't ever met a single NHL fan who didn't love Jags

Flew down to TO from Vancouver. From Toronto I rented a car and drove down to Pitt, then across Pennsylvania to Philly, ending in DC and Madison Square Gardens (Remember the awesome Patrick Division?) - to follow their last 4 games of the season. They won all 4 handily and these guys guys were superb. I love Mario, because he's supernatural and a CLASS act. But then there's the Magic of Jagr. Wow! I love, love, love that guy. Big, strong & superbly talented. Unfortunately, they bowed out surprisingly to everyone that year in the first round, ugh. IT WAS THE BEST HOCKEY EXPERIENCE IN MY LIFE!! Much LOVE for JAGR!

Pens legends. Great duo Mario 66 and Jaromír 68. Last salute on the ice with Pittsburgh jersey and players. WOW.

Jagr- quite possibly the greatest hockey career of all time. His Player Bio Stat Page is mind boggling.

Im born and raised in Pittsburgh. Huge penguins fan. I remember watching him growing up. I know he didn't leave on the best of terms but it only makes sense he's back home. Awesome.

LOL Jaromir is great in every way. And it's about time!

Jagr was one of the first rookies I remember watching play as a kid....He was incredible throughout his career...and really stood out despite playing under his idol Lemieux...What is really cool is to see not only how much he complemented Lemiuex throughout the 90s, and the duo became the stuff of legend...after Mario retired, Jagr went on to cement his own fate right next to his hero. Jagr will always remain one of the most entertaining players I ever had the privilege to watch.

Jagr in '92 against the NY Rangers with Mario injured was the start of the legend.

I'm a Wings fan, but watching Super Mario and Jagr play together was amazing. I still remember some Pens fan holding a sign that showed that "JAROMIR" was an anagram for "MARIO JR"... :)

Whats incredible is that Jagr still somewhat plays hockey in Czechia at the age of 52.

Growing up a Flyers fan, I despised the Penguins in the 90's and even to this day. Obviously Jagr and Lemieux were generational talents and a treat to watch on the ice in the old school clutch and grab style of play. I watched the ceremony from start to finish and what a beautiful job that the Penguins organization did. It made me feel old seeing all of the video clips, but it also brought back a lot of wonderful memories. Jagr is a class act and an all around great guy.

Funny thing is Jagr himself “spoiled” Gretzky’s last game in 1999 with an overtime goal making it 2:1 for Penguins.

I believe it was also Jágr alongside his Czech teammates such as Hašek, Straka, Reichel etc who spoiled Gretzkys last representation of his country Canada at the winter olympic games in Nagano, Japan 1998. :)

i remember getting to see Jagr play in person for the first time. it was when he played for NYR and I was stunned at how big he is. His size and how well he moved and skated, it just doesn't come across on TV

First NHL goal I ever saw as it happened was Jagr against the Islanders in the 90-91 season. I was immediately hooked on hockey and had the fortune to become a hockey fan right as the Pens were on their way to capturing their first Stanley Cup!

Sooooo long overdue. As a big time Rangers fan, I have to say congrats both to Jaromir, and to the Penguins franchise fans. Jagr does have a special place in Rangers history (maybe not to the point of his jersey hanging from the rafters), but still, that 05/06 season was special. So once again, nice way to tie a bow on Jaromir's career (well, at lest on the NHL level hehe).

I'm not even a hockey fan but how can you not love and respect Jagr?

Thank you Penguins!!! JAGR is still a beast!! I luv watching him play!! Glad he was on my team - Dallas Stars - in 2012-2013...glad we got to be a oart of his NHL play time💚💚

Jagr never received more than one Hart because it was the MVP award as voted BY THE MEDIA - and Jagr refused to gargle the journalists balls the way ol 99 did. It’s telling that, in comparison, he received 3 Lester B. Pearson Awards (MVP as voted by THE PLAYERS THEMSELVES)

From Vancouver Island, and not much of a hockey fan anymore: Fucking cheers for Jagr. I don't remember all that much from 30 years ago, but I do remember he was a threat to the Canucks, and I am glad he is being honoured in this way by the Penguins. Wish you guys had a win on this night, but sometimes it just doesn't work out. Thanks for the video and recap, and may the Penguins do right by Jagr for the rest of the season.

This 19 yr old kid came here to Pittsburgh, language and a new culture- lockeroom caused a delay in his learning. But a countryman player ( Herdina) added to roster allowed him to grow- transfer into one of greatest NHL players. His jersey number # 68 long long overdue!!! Congrats Jaromir and Thank You for the Stanley Cups and truly amazin star star performances.GOD BLESS

Devils fan here, love this guy and his work ethic. He was awesome when he played for NJ, he deserves this honor from the Pens. Too bad they lost. Sort of how like the Devils stunk it up when they honored Sergei Brylin.

I never really watched hockey, but even then I still know who Jaromir Jagr is. He was a big deal back in the 90's and talked about everywhere. The good ol'days.

When I played football I always wore 68 because of Jagr , Jagr is the winter soldier

"68" is a tribute to "1968", an important year to Czechs, the year of the Prague Spring and Soviet invasion. Jagr knew by taking that number, he was saying "never forget." Luckily, we can still see him play in Prague when Kladno comes to town. I'm 50 and younger than him.:-) If he hadnt spent all those years in the KHL he would hold more scoring records in the nhl.

Lemieux, Jagt, Francis, Nedved, Mullen……such great memories and I actually got Petr Nedved’s autograph.

Long overdue, but it's Jagr's fault never retiring. Dude is a legend. There's a 20 years span where ONLY Gretzky, Lemieux and Jagr were the winners of the Art Ross. That's literally the most elite class a player can be in.

Recorded the ceremony on my DVR, and will keep forever. Another funny moment was Jagr saying "Ulf Samuelson asked me to say something nice about him....but I couldn't think of any. Sorry, Ulf". Great to see the old team there

One thing underrated things about Jagr is you look at the players he mentored after he came back from Russia. I believe players like Giroux, Voracek, Benn and especially Barkov and Huberdau don’t become the players they are/were without playing with Jags.

Bro! I live in Montreal, so I was always a Habs fan! I was too young to see Gretzky in his prime, but I was always amazed by Mario Lemieux! And when Jagr came in, I was around 13 yrs old, he instantly became my favorite player! It would have been nice to see him wear the Bleu, blanc, rouge and see him play with Plekanec. Hey, great video!!!

I collected Jagr hockey cards. I still have the collection with the rookie card which is worth nothing because a billion copies were printed. Only two cups with Mario Lemieux. That is strange considering Jagr is the second all-time scorer and Lemieux is considered by many as the best. Good times!

Jags had other chances at the Cup, but his teams just couldn't pull it off. First that comes to mind for me was the Devils in 2012 and Bruins in 2013

Jaggar is a legend, used to hang out with his ex stripper Quebec girlfriend... she has nothing but nice things to say about him. IT was what it was, they both got what they wanted, no regrets... it ended badly as he accused her of selling a story to a paper, but she swears she never did... but I don't know. She still wishes nothing but the best for him and her heart skips every time she mentions him. I am sure she wasn't the only one, and she has no illusions of being anything but a good time. Still she had plenty of great stories that humanized Jaggar and I was more than happy to hear them. Even though I never met him, I always jump back to the channel I catch a glimpse of him, he was one of a kind, they broke the mold when they made this guy!

As a kid being born in 1987 in Pittsburgh watching the Penguins all my life I learned something today about Jagr I knew the Penguins had financial problems in the late 90s early 2000s but I never knew because he extended playoffs is what saved the Penguins with the extra revenue I never knew that till now

Yeah, at 12 it wouldn’t have registered; long time fan; I was 25 then and VERY aware. There were articles in the Hockey News and they’d said bluntly that they were bankrupt and, barring a miracle, the team would be sold. They were talking about sending them to Portland. Jaromir has NEVER been given enough credit for just what a tremendous talent he was. He took teams that should never have even made the playoffs and carried them into the second round in ‘98-‘99 and ‘99-‘00. He and Mario are the Saviors of the franchise. He saved that team from being sold and leaving Pittsburgh entirely and that gave Mario the time and opportunity to assemble a group to buy it. There should be HUGE ASS statues of Mario and Jaromir outside that arena in Pittsburgh

@@siobhanofarrell4646 I never knew that I live in Florida now and have for a long time but my heart is still in Pittsburgh and always will be especially when it comes to sports me and a guy I used to work with who is a huge hockey fan although he’s a Devils fan knows a lot about Hockey and said he always thought Jagr was better then Mario I disagree with that I think Mario is the greatest player in Pittsburgh Sports History in any sport with the other 2 being Clemente and Mean Joe Greene but Jagr was definitely overshadowed and don’t think he ever has gotten the credit for being one of the Top 10 players in hockey history.

He probably would have scored a goal and 2 assists had he played. Guy's a beast even at 52

Aside from being one of Hockey's great players, he's also one of hockey's greatest personalities. Penguins may be our rivals, but this was still awesome to see.

Don't worry, the Pens did it to themselves again with this terrible PP they have since Karlsson's arrival.

ngl they should have signed him a 1 game ceremonial contract and had him take a shift or two. even the possibility theres a shootout and he could take part. how insane could that have been, getting another official game added to his stats, 34 years after he joined the NHL.
