@@kieran7265 yeah but for roswaal, Subaru using English words, which aren’t even his native language, would sound like complete gibberish. Unless Subaru explicitly told him the English word “smart” means what it means, I don’t see how he would figure out its definition.

@@Voidveil He figured it out from context clues, you can do it with your own native tongue when you come across a word you don't already know. You can generally get a feeling for what it means, but may ask for clarification to make sure you have it right, like what Roswaal does

The reason Elsa slashed Subaru’s eye is because Elsa hated the look in Subaru’s eyes. When she looks at Subaru’s eyes she seesthat Subaru was given up on life and already started planning ahead of his death.(He was thinking that was the end for this loop and already started planning for the next loop) It’s was an abhorent way of thinking that even Elsa was disgusted. From Elsa’s perspective Subaru was looking for a future that was not even there. Emilia didn’t get possessed by Satella. She was mindbroken from being alone and going through the trials multiple times. Without Puck or Subaru, She was swallowed in her trauma without any pillar in her life. Roswaal doesn’t actually know about Return by Death. The tome of wisdom only told Roswaal that Subaru has the ability to “Redo” things. So Roswaal thinks Subaru can loop back with his will. He doesn’t know about the conditions(Dying). That’s why Roswaal beat the hell out of Subaru, he tried Subaru to loop back with force. Also the way Subaru escaped from the great rabbit was cut in the anime, Subaru used the Ryuzu clones as suicide bombers while he tried to get back to Emilia. While he was trying to get back to Emilia he saw the church that the villagers were staying on fire. Then Subaru had come to conclusion that the Villagers have chosed to burn alive than get eaten alive by the rabbits. It was a mass suicide. Also the ending was Subaru’s first ever kiss in his life…

The reason Emilia was acting weird was because Subaru wasn't there to support/comfort her when she took the trial, and she ended up taking it over and over eventually causing her mind to break down like that. Roswaal knows about Subaru's looping ability, but doesn't know that he has to die to do it, which is why he attacked Subaru but didn't kill him, to try and force him to restart. And yes, his goal will be revealed later. Ejoyed the reaction and look forward to the next! 😄

It's more so because the villagers all turned on her and blamed the snowfall on her. This led her to hide in the graveyard and do the trial over and over again until her mind broke. Subaru (and Puck) not being there and her desire to do something right so he would come back exacerbated this.

Also I really like that Roswal looses the accent as he became serious.

So to clear things up roswald doesnt know about RBD he just noticed something strange regarding subaru in his book and is insaine enoph to conclude subaru can restart some how he doesnt know why or how just that he does

You’re kind on the right track about Roswaal, I know you probably already have almost finished the show and might know but yea Roswaal is basically saying “By protecting the one thing most precious to you, you can become like me”. Roswaal has thrown away everything for his goal, he wants Subaru to be the exact same for… some purpose we find out in the coming episodes. But tbf we don’t ever find out the specifics of Roswaals goal. We kind of know, some novel readers think they DO know, but we genuinely do not know the true details of his wish in full

At the end of the episode, Subaru and Emilia are in the Trial building that rejects any being that isn't qualified. That's how Subaru got away from the rabbits, they couldn't pursue him in there.

I think she meant how did he get away from the rabbits to get into the building to begin with As I recall, he ran until the Ryuzu clones came to act as decoys or something along those lines, although this was obviously not adapted in the anime

My theory is that the books Beatrice and Roswaal have show them the steps to achieve what they want. Roswaal made it snow so that the world would be reset, but didn't know that it would attract the Great Rabbit ("I see I see, so this is how it ends"). Beatrice lost hope that she would find "That person", no longer has a goal, so her book became blank.

@naghar9827 yeah, since what roswaal does changes every time due to the book, it does show what to do to achieve what you want. But I dont know if hers stops due to Echidna or due to Beatrice herself. Plus, even though roswaal says he has the real one, in a future memory we see Echidna say that both roswaal's and Betty's books are the same, so they should still be functional regardless. And also we know that the decision of who is that person is up to Betty, so it could be either one. I was hoping that one of them was confirmed in the novel
