I have a Billy Idol story! I got to meet and hang out with him in the late 90’s. He was so nice and humble. I jokingly asked him to teach me how to do the raised lip curl he does. He smiled and said “Just think of someone you love and hate at the same time”. It worked. Lol. He’s a sweetheart. 💕

He never got the credit he deserved for the songwriter he was. I particularly liked his 1st album. Songs like, “Shooting Stars(my favorite)”, “It’s So Cruel”, are EXCELLENT tracks. Of course everyone knows the more popular ones from that record, but in general it was his image & antics that got all the attention. & that’s a shame, because he was better than that.

I have kids that enjoy all sorts of music… but they don’t seem to understand loud music. We live in this Alexa world where there isn’t any punch, no kick and low fidelity. Fortunately I have an audiophile grade amp that spits out a clean 325 watts per channel RMS. I think I need to give them each a beer (one is 21 the other 24) and demonstrate how to properly listen to a true rocker.

Billy Idol quote, “I’ve always had a fascination with the titles of horror films … I was particularly intrigued by the ‘60s French nouvelle vague forerunner Les Yeux Sans Visage (Eyes Without a Face), about a brilliant plastic surgeon who vows to restore the face of his daughter, who has been horribly disfigured in a car accident. This vow leads him to murder, as he sets out collecting the facial features of his victims, which he then grafts onto his daughter’s hideous countenance, attempting to restore her beauty. Her staring eyes remain the only thing visible.”

My step-son looked so much like Billy Idol that my daughter at 3, seeing Billy in concert on Tv while her brother was visiting his mother for the summer out of province, screamed and smiled at Billy, pointing, clapping and calling out for her bro. There was 14 years between them. When my Stepson returned from the summer vacation and returned to high school, Halloween was soon upon them. He was so thrilled with my daughter being convinced his summer job was to sing on stage, that he thought he’d dress for the Halloween dance as Billy. He and I applied ourselves to costume, a bit of bronzer to raise his cheekbones and how to turn his light golden tresses to Billy’s white. Voila! So prepped, he drove off to school fully dressed, only to return home several hours later only partially clothed. The girls at the dance were so overwhelmed by him, they tore at his jeans, tearing them off above the knees. Slashed black tee shirt lay in ribbons about his shoulders and chest. Hair was totally dishevelled. But the grin of joy on this shy young man’s face lasted a month...The girls all noticed him at school from that day forward....

I remember buying this single when it was out. The rockin' part of the song was the BRIDGE. A lot of songs have bridges. I put them in a lot of my songs, because you can do whatever you want. A bridge is a part of the song that's different from the normal verses & chorus. They don't have to be THAT different. It could just be some different chords & different melody. Billy Idol songs that are NECESSARY: "Mony Mony," "Hot In The City" and "Cradle Of Love."

Right! I think a good video to produce would be Top Ten (or twenty) bridges ever. I think one would have to be the one in "He Ain't Heavy (He's My Brother)" by Neil Diamond, performed by the Hollies. Of course, the Beatles had a hundred of them.

About the title, Billy Idol said...“I’ve always had a fascination with the titles of horror films … "I was particularly intrigued by the 1960s French chillingly horrific yet classically poetic film called "Les Yeux Sans Visage" (Eyes Without a Face). The female vocals in the song are singing "les yeux sans visage," which is French for "eyes without a face."
