Fun fact: the Paladin walking away in a straight line and over the boulder, as well as the other characters' reactions, are all improvised. The director decided not to say cut just to see what would happen and how they'd handle it, and Regé-Jean Page just kept on walking and straight over the rock like he's a video game NPC because he thought that's what Xenk would do in character.

The pudgy dragon, the failed illusion and "Oh, Jarnathan!" actually made me burst out laughing, which is extremely rare for a movie to do. It is a shame this probably won't get a sequel, this is prime cinematic universe material, which I know studio execs love to hear. A sequel could have an entirely new cast made of different class characters than this one and then in the third movie both squads team up against Tam. That's a solid trilogy imo. There's literally no end to possible movie ideas with this property, just keep making new campaigns!

Fun fact. Fat dragon is featured in one of the 5e adventures. Hes fat because he powered the forges of an underground duergar (dwarf) city. They kept him fat and rich in exchange for his power. But as the dragon gets older, they can no longer control it, so they kill it and replace it with a baby for another hundred years. In the adventure you can warn the dragon about that plan, thus why he would be in this random abandoned ruin.

Took my brother to see this in theaters, I had a good time and thought the story was solid. My favorite parts were the graveyard interrogations and the underground treasure hunt
Holga did say she took the "walking stick" from a wizard's lair years ago. But only Simon with his arcane knowledge could identify it. Yeah, it's basically a Portal Gun from _Portal._ But the spell Dimension Door exists in D&D, it works slightly different (it doesnt need surfaces and the exit can be somewhere out of line of sight, but has a maximum range), but the Hither-Thither staff is much more useful esp when it's not restricted in charges per day.
It's a metaphor for a paladin's oath. Even when the way is rough, and it would easier to deviate from the path, stay the course and don't stray. Zenk just takes his oath a bit more literally than might be wise.

This was done so well. I loved the use of practical effects on the Tabaxi (cat folk), the Aarakocra (Jarnathon), fish, and dragonborn (the other guy on the jury). I had so much fun watching this because I play alot of dungeons and dragons and kept whispering the spells to my husband in the theater (annoying for sure but I couldn't help it). I'm kinda sad because I guessed the end due to 1. the necklace of invisibility 2. they hung a *little* too long on that shot of the anti magic bracelets when they were getting their stuff back after the gelatinous cube. But overall super fun and the audience was packed on opening weekend and loved it. I don't know how it didn't make more money because, with audiences, it's pretty well regarded. It's probably the protest due to the Wizards of the Coast debacle that happened right before this movie came out. They kind of shot themselves in the foot.

This feels like a real game. Like the hither-thither staff just showing up after the sorcerer ruined the bridge trap. You could almost hear the DM swearing under his breath. Or the super powerful paladin conveniently showing up to help them get the artifact, then going away. Michelle Rodriguez is playing a barbarian. They wear less armor but have a lot of strength. Chris Pine is playing a bard. They have minor spellcasting abilities, but mostly they use music to buff the party. Wizards memorize spells. They have to declare which spells at the beginning of the day and can only cast those spells that day. Sorcerers use magic in a less formal, more intuitive way. They have far fewer spells, but the spells are more flexible and there are no casting limits. Druids cast nature-related spells and can turn into animals.

Vin did a one-shot DnD game with some Critical Role players a couple years ago based on a fantasy movie he had coming out at the time.
Simon had to overcome his own self doubt and grow confidence in himself in order to attune, because in D&D Sorcerers use Charisma as the stat that makes them a better Spellcaster. A fantastic way to lead to a Sorcerer's arc of improvement, they literally just need to believe in themselves enough to cast better magic. (Wizards use Intelligence, so they study and understand magic like math or computer programming. Sorcerers are kinda a cheat as they are born with a connection to magic and can just make it happen by willing it.)

A point about the brain eaters. The party is a bard, a barbarian, a sorcerer, a druid, and a paladin... all of them would likely have intelligence as a dump stat so it's pretty accurate game mechanic-wise.
The hither tither Staff is THE DM emergency Item, after the Group f'd up the puzzle he worked so hard on 😂
6:49 The thing is, Forge did keep his word here. He took the tablet, and he kept Kira safe. Maybe not quite in the way that Edgin intended, but it meant he could get both back later.

So, all he does all day and night is sit around being waited on hand and talon, huffing and puffing and feasting like Henry the 8th!

Glad you liked it! The more people see it, the better the chance for a potential sequel.
There was love in the making of this movie.
This movie really captures the actual atmosphere of a D&D game. It’s heavy in places, but it’s also a game, and games are meant to be fun.
42:45 Only noticed this because of a tiktok, but this fight sequence actually mimics the tabletop version of combat. It's so quick its hard to track, but they attack in order twice through, Bard, Barb, Sorc, Druid, Boss. Mechanically in DnD, each "round" is calculated as 6 seconds, and that sequence is 12 seconds of runtime.
I saw this in theaters and I was so surprised by just how good it was
Those Ice JJ fish parts got me choking on my drink. Love the content! Much love from Belize 🇧🇿 ❤️
I was holding my breath in vigorous anticipation for yall to watch this. When I got the notif I was ecstatic! LOVE absolutely LOVED this film, and yall are the best reactors out there. Made my evening
Finally Roshi dropped the Reaction in this Masterpiece
That puma looking thing with the holograms and teleports is called a displaced beast
I just finished watched D&D and it was a fun movie to watch. Love the casts members, the storyline, the action, the adventure, the comedy and the music choice.
Fire intro. That Akira slide is iconic.
The conversation about VHS at the end was so funny to me because I went to college mid-late 90s and the way to see subbed anime shows, and subbed HK films was that you had to visit a Chinatown in a larger city and hit up these small "import-export" stores and then you'd find them on pirated VHS or VCD. Me and a friend took a trip to HK in summer 98 and saw Rurouni Kenshin English Dub on TV there randomly, then the next summer we went to Chinatown in Canada on a trip and rented the whole show on VHS, in a literal cardboard box full of tapes, so we could see the Sub. fun times.
They really took it to heart that players tend to do erratic wtf things.
This movie is what i always wished a D&D movie would be. Fun and a good time at the movies.
44:15 that's cold bro 😂😂 not even a second thought too lmao
The tablet of reawakening is a high rarity magic item so it takes like, years of concentrated work to make one.
lol dude when he said 65, the confusion that washed over your face was priceless
It does suck that this movie didn’t do great in the box office, but I like to imagine that, even if they don’t green light a sequel, the main cast would get together and record a campaign as their movie characters for KZread.
39:58 really thought they were gonna end it there
Big up @yaboyroshi channel. Pure quality content.
i'm SO happy y'all reacted to this movie!! it was such an unexpected delight, and everyone's "wtf is that bradley cooper?" reaction is hilarious lmao
the potato was the equivalent of that one player going "I do this dumb shit" and rolling a nat 20

Seriously, always getting a nat 20 for something ridiculous but the moment we have any actual combat… low rolls all the way.
went and saw this with my girl we both really enjoyed happy to see yall react to it
This was exactly as advertised. A Live Action Adaptation of A Typical Dungeons & Dragons Short game. Made by Fans-Players of D&D for other fans-players of D&D.
I have waited for this reaction for months now 😂😂😂... and finally the gang delivered 🙌
This movie was so fun. Glad they did the D&D universe justice.
One of the teams in the maze is the group of kids from the Dungeons and Dragons cartoon from the 80's.
