My mom figured out how to keep kids from being picky eaters very easily. She had a rule. We had to try everything at least once. As a toddler, this took the fear out of it. I knew I just had to try it one time, my opinions would be validated, and I’d never have to eat it again if I didn’t like it. There was VERY FEW THINGS I didn’t actually like. Liver was one, shrimp and grits was another. But everything else.. I mean..food is USUALLY good lol. As a toddler, with that pressure taken away and understanding I just simply had to try it once, I tried EVERYTHING. I understood as a toddler that you had to try things to know if you liked them, and I had no pressure to be forced to eat more if I didn’t like it. So it was less scary to try things. I was a toddler and was eating escargot, ostrich burgers, bison, sushi, alligator nuggets, raw oysters, and almost all vegetables. I remember having a friend over who expressed “I hate mushrooms!” I said “have you ever had them?” And she said no. She tried them.. loved them. My mom let us sauté them, we ate them raw, and she even used them in her omelet that we made the next morning. Another friend was grossed out by the deer sausage we had. When he finally tried it, he loved it so much that he took home like four packs of sausage my dad had made. My best friend Mirissa wasn’t picky, but sometimes wouldn’t wanna try things. After spending time with us, she began trying everything and now does the same with her kids. You have to try things to know if you like them or dislike them. And whether it’s a toddler or an older child, they should be given the autonomy to say “i actually really dislike this. I don’t care to eat it again”. As well, with my mom’s daycare and with us kids, she always involved us not just in the cooking process, but in the purchasing process. She taught us how to find quality ingredients on a budget. And she would have us kids and even all her daycare kids truly involved in cooking meals. Not just sandwiches or grilled cheeses, or hotdogs or something. But true MEALS. Kids are so much more likely to eat something when they were involved in the process of making it.

The trick is to hide the food and change the texture. Put in blender just lightly, mix with Mac and cheese, put in casserole dish, apply crunchy topping and bake. Lord don’t tell kids what’s in it till they say they like it.

Oh Tristan! Up until now you had me.....but bacon? On this we diverge my friend. Sigh. I dated someone who bet me a 200 dollar shopping spree that I couldn't make him eat broccoli and ask for seconds. I waited about six months and made zucchini bread using blanched broccoli. I dropped some off at his work and he loved it. After work he came by and asked if I had any more of that bread and proceeded to eat the remainder of the loaf. As he was finishing the last of it, I told him it was broccoli, not zucchini in the bread. The neighbor confirmed it. He did pay up.... Fun memory!

I have the same texture issue as some of them, so there are 2 meals that I could recommend for start with broccoli and cauliflower. 1st is “creamy” soup, my go to ingredient (measured is by hart) are broccoli, cauliflower, potato, onions, peppers, carrots and garlic. Sauté and season all the vegetables once they are sautéed, add water, let it boil for at least 15 minutes and then process with the emergency blender. It should be somewhat thick if you want to add cream cheese or cream. My other go to is to made a sauce for the pasta or chicken. Put the cooked broccoli on the blender with some spices and a bit of cream and choose if wanted fully blended or with some bits Hope enjoy 😊 I love these series

I really enjoy Aaron's cooking tips and especially now with Tristan who lends a bit of expertise. At first I was surprised that so many of the kids didn't like the broccoli, but then remembered that I wouldn't go near it as a kid either. Aaron was absoloutely right about it being a texture thing. I was that "picky eater kid"and I never questioned why, but just a few years ago I read a study that broke down into categories what types of picky eaters some kids were. When I read "some kids don't respond well to certain textures"I realized that was me! It helps if kids are asked to be specific about what they don't like, just as Jake did when he said "it isn't the taste, but the texture". By the way, as an adult I love all vegetables that I woudn't eat as a kid but still turned off by some textures. They may still grow to like the broccoli!😄

I think its still a win that they are trying something they dont like and giving it a chance to see if they would like it. I think it also helps them become more open minded and before say no to something so quick and be shocked thier opinon isnt what they felt and might say they dont like it and had never tried for some reason. I think is is a great think in so manys for anyone. I love Tristan in the video he brings a lot to the videos and can see he enjoy doing the with arron and can see Arron enjoy as well

Just do a broccoli and cauliflower cheese! It’s a favourite over here in the uk. Standard cheese sauce poured over the par boiled veg and then bake for 30 mins and sprinkle paprika over it and boom it’s done! One last thing though is why throw away the stalk? That’s such a waste and that can be cooked and blended down into the cheese sauce and it contains so much nutrients. Zero waste and extra healthy .

I wonder if you chopped it up if that would help with the texture issue because the stem would be chopped.

I love broccoli! Although I think I have seen you have it raw in those crudité type platters, that’s not something we do here (UK) not sure I could do raw! My favourite is tenderstem broccoli, and cooked with garlic & a little chilli on in a griddle. Or regular broccoli roasted, or in a curry soaking up all the flavour. Delicious! See also Brussels! So good halved and roasted and especially with a little Marmite! 😋 Far superior to just boiling!

My daughter has issues with textures of food. For some reason she loves broccoli, as long as it's soft. You could try making crispy Parmesan broccoli chips. It changes the texture of the broccoli.

I do not mind broccoli. Few years ago I saw someone make burnt broccoli, which does, imo, change the texture of it. I loved it more than regular broccoli. I used tons of garlic in it when i made it...maybe find a burnt brocc recipe

they might like it if it's roasted since it has a crunch instead of soft ish texture, I made it roasted with knowing I didn't really like broccoli, but it totally changed my mind and I love it
