An estimated 10,000 Palestinian children have been held in military detention over the past 20 years, with Save the Children noting that they are “the only children in the world who are systematically prosecuted in military courts.” Save the Children and a partner organisation consulted 228 former child detainees from across the West Bank, detained from between one and 18 months, and found that most children are beaten, handcuffed and blindfolded during arrest. They are also interrogated at unknown locations without the presence of a caregiver, and are often deprived of food, water and sleep, or access to legal counsel, according to the research. The main alleged crime for these detentions is stone throwing, which can carry a 20-year sentence in prison for Palestinian children. It is estimated that there are between 500 and 1000 children held in Israeli military detention each year.

Considering most wars have a 1:9 combatant to civilian death ratio, even if you don't belive Israel's 14,000 combatants eliminated figure and rather place that number at half the official estimate, that means out of the 24 thousand confirmed casualties in Gaza - 7 thousand are combatants which puts the combatant to civilian death ratio in Gaza at about 1:2.5. This figure is extremly liberal and still positions the Gaza offensive as the safest offensive of its kind for civilians. Urban warfare has never been safer.

I'm 100% certain that Hamas's estimate is lowballing it, simply because of the nature of the massacres being regularly uncovered along with the complete lack of any sort of infrastructure. The actual number of dead is probably at least double what they're able to verify. I'm equally certain that the Israeli government has a pretty close tally of what that figure actually is, because 1) every colonizing army keeps score with body counts, and 2) they adamantly refuse to publicly acknowledge any number except to say that Hamas's is wrong.

Also can't forget the people Israel has vanished.

That's quite common when you speak of casualty figures. People react differently to a large number without faces then a single victim, because it's in general easier to relate. After the initial chock it just turns into a number, where's a single victim especially with a backstory or a picture ends up more deeply etched in our minds. The UN works around the globe so seeing these kind of figures ain't rare, in a sense compared to many other areas they have worked with these past few decades these figures ain't even that large to begin with. Just look at the ongoing jenna-cide in West Darfur were casualties are estimated to be between 80k - 400k. I don't downplay the severity of this ongoing tragedy, it's just a explanation as to how people who work with these things on a daily basis tend to be/become.

Israeli newspapers have reported that the IDF was issued orders echoing the wording of the Hannibal Directive during the 2023 Hamas-led attack on Israel. The IDF was ordered to prevent "at all costs" the abduction of Israeli civilians or soldiers, possibly leading to the death of a large number of Israeli hostages. According to Kibbutz Be'eri survivors Hadas Dagan and Yasmin Porat, an Israeli tank fired two shells at a house that was known to hold over a dozen hostages, including 12-year-old twins; only one hostage survived. On 5 December 2023, Israeli hostages released by Hamas met with Benjamin Netanyahu's war cabinet and claimed that, during the 7 October Hamas attack on Israel they were deliberately attacked by Israeli helicopters on their way into Gaza, and were shelled constantly by the Israeli military while they were there.

Israel have admitted they are likely responsible for more Israeli civilians the initially reported, and a full investigation and it's findings, will be done at the conclusion of the war. (This was forced out of Israel, due to Israeli casualties having wounds caused by arms hamas have zero access to; unless America has been supplying hamas)

It didn't. It concluded that the Palestinians have a plausible right to be protected from genocide, that South Africa has standing to bring the case, and that the ICJ itself has standing to judge the case.

In the Court’s view, the facts and circumstances mentioned above are sufficient to conclude that at least some of the rights claimed by South Africa and for which it is seeking protection are plausible. This is the case with respect to the right of the Palestinians in Gaza to be protected from acts of genocide and related prohibited acts as identified in Article III and the right is South Africa to seek Israel’s compliance with the layer’s obligations under the Convention.” What were the facts and circumstances mentioned above by South Africa? 2. (2) the state of Israel: (a) has breached and continues to breach its obligations under the Genocide Convention, in particular the obligations provided under Article I, read in conjunction with Article II, and Articles III (a), III(b), III (c), III (d), III (e), IV, V and VI.

​@@edwardwilson4997 That is not true and doesn't make sense, and I will explain why. Everyone has the right to be protected from genocide. That is not what needed to be determined. That is a universal right. What needs to be determined is whether genocide is happening right now. The ICJ have accepted the case South Africa proposed. This means they believe South Africas claim that Israel is committing genocide is plausible therefore must be investigated.

Probably the power of the pro-Israel lobby. It wasn't that long ago that they saw off the leader of the main opposition party in the UK over claims of anti-Semitism and the former Shadow Chancellor is under indefinite suspension facing the same charge today. Anyone with any power is too frightened to speak up because it usually means that their political career is effectively over if they do
