Great comparison. Couldn't see much difference in the output in those conditions, so whatever was cheaper at the time is what I'd probably get. Thank you so much for making this and tolerating all the skeeters. I wouldn't have been able to do it, the LOVE feasting on me. It's been like that my whole life. Made life h3ll while on bivouak.

I have the older, less powerful one. It is a very nice light that is still more than enough for it`s size. Perfect for the bill of a cap when going into or out of my hunting blind. I like the magnetic charger for mine.

Thank you for great video. I love the Fenix E18R, the only challenge I had is that when I double pressed the button to lock it. For some reason it would turn on in my pocket. I have tested it several times and same issue regarding the flashlight turning on in my pocket. I never thought that I could turn the belt clip to cover the button. I am going to try that and hoping that works.

its advertised as 350 lumens which is what I would mostly use it for I think turbo is really just for those moments where you are eye straining to see something and cant quite make it out, then turbo is super helpful. I just bought this one online cant wait to use it. I saw these in store and was immediately impressed with the Build and Materials Quality. The performance of that baton 3 also looks superb

I'm a recent above knee amputee. Have found pressure from the prosthesis socket activates my Olight Baton 3 and Arkfeld switches in pocket. No good! Constantly using lockout is annoying...and potentially dangerous in a rapid-need (threat) situation...which i experienced last night. Until this, I was very happy with the Olights. I'm excited to try the side-switch Fenix.

I may have to give one of these a try, I love the size of them. I have used O-lights for several years and they just do not hold up. I use a light for work and it gets used several times a day, every single day. I got two years of service from a S1rBatonII, that is the record for O-light for me on a everyday use light. Not bad, but not good enough.

My approximately 2 year old Baton 3 has been practically indestructible. Better clip design (especially for clipping to the bill of my hat for night running) and much stronger magnetic tail cap. My Thrunite T1S has already came apart after a few months. Going to try out the Fenix because I like the aesthetics. Should be arriving tomorrow with a 3 year protection plan

I have another Fenix model flashlight that uses 18650 doesn't have to be the Fenix brand battery. The reason the CR 123s don't show battery level it's because of their nominal charge at full which is 3.0 volts. The rechargeable 16340 type run at 3.7volts

I like it. I may get it. I think the lumen output is a bit high in all of these tiny lights with such a small battery. In an emergency we may need high lumen output for a sustained period of time and a 700mah battery just won't cut it. I always carry a minimum of 2 pocket lights, just for that reason. Thanks a bunch for the upload buddy. That's a lot of work for us and it is most definitely appreciated.

The most frustrating aspect if not a deal breaker of Fenix lights is that they heat up way too hot 🔥! Other brands have high output but no problem to hold them bare handed. Very nice light. Would almost be better to simply leave it as a 350lm light with better candela and runtimes.

Hey! New here to the world of flashlights. Thanks for your great videos. They’ve been so helpful to me. Would you consider this a good light to carry around to, let’s say a train station, if I was nervous walking back to my car at night? I didn’t want to carry around a larger flashlight so this one stood out to me. I know it’s not going to completely stop an attacker, but I’m just curious if this would do the trick, or if you or your subscribers prefer another flashlight over it? Thanks in advance!

It's an upgrade compared to the older model which I have BUT... it uses the exact same battery which tops at 2.5 Amps CDR. SST40 running Turbo in such a small host is gonna get hot and it will probably step-down faster than you think. Personally I 'd rather have a warm emitter like the older E16 had. My E18r v1.0 uses a cool XPL-HI and an unusual floody TIR. Turbo lasts 50sec (in reviews) before step-down. Essentially the newer E18r is a nice light when used at lower modes. Fenix actually shows a graph about the typical runtimes. Don't know many companies that do that.

The USBC and the pocket clip was a serious downgrade... Previous model had a magnetic charging port and a much better pocket clip.... Why the hell are they following olights terrible choice to go with the reversible pocket clip... Seriously the previous Olight S series batons and the E18R v1 had a perfect clip, I've never previously had a issue with retention... The new pocket clip they have on most of their lights just falls out of most of my pockets.

I hate that they included the moonlight & turbo modes in the cycling. I don't ever want to have to cycle past turbo to get to another setting. Even if it is only for a split second. That is just unnecessary battery drain. I like my lights to come on in the med. mode (fenix did a great job with 150L there) but what if your in a situation were you want direct access to moonlight (so you don't disturb others)? You will have to turn the flashlight on in med. mode, cycle through high and turbo, just to get to moonlight. Once again...Fenix makes a great product, knocks it out of the park with the lumen levels, but ruins it with their crappy UI. WHY FENIX!!!!! WHY?

  • @ChrispyThings

@@subaruforester5062 No.. Moonlight mode is accessed with a long press & hold. Turbo is accessed with a double press. Normal operation of the flashlight, just pressing the button once, turns the light on (in memory mode) and then pressing and holding the button cycles through only the low, medium, and high modes.

Similar lights it appears, but the Fenix UI would drive me bonkers, so I'll stick with my Olight Baton 3. The only pro I see for the Fenix E18R V2 is that it will take a CR123A for emergency purposes. The Baton 3 seems to be rather battery sensitive. That is overcome though as one can get the Premium battery charging case for the Baton 3 and recharge it for 3.7 times as I recall. I also like that with the battery charging case that one can run it on moonlight for 94 days [20 without the case]. It also allows one to use a standard USB C cord for the charging case or proprietary magnetic charging cable directly. One other con for the Fenix is that turbo runtime that they try to evade an accurate spec by inserting an asterisk. I do love my Fenix HM65R-T headlamp though, so I can appreciate Fenix. Speaking of headlamps I see the battery in my neutral white Olight Perun mini is the same and interchangeable with the Baton 3, so I guess I can switch those back and forth. That makes up for the mini Perun not fitting in the Baton 3 charging case. [Ignore the rest if you want guaranteed accuracy. I would have to sit the lights far apart and take notes regarding batteries and battery insertion direction to get it right. A CR123A does not appear to work at all in a Baton 3. I am gratified that I can use moonlight and low with a CR123A in the Perun mini. A CR123A also appears to work some of the settings on a Baton II, although I don't know for how long. It does though seem to stop it from working on the proper battery until one drops it on a charger with its standard rechargeable to reset it. The Baton II and Baton III [IMR 16340 10C] batteries do not appear to be interchangeable although Baton II will charge in the Baton 3 Premium charging case.]
