Back in 78 I bought a Terra Select Edition, in canyon black with gold wheels and stripes, just like the white stripes above, the wheels were steel rock crawler style. With a white removable cab roof. The interior was dark green with pillow top bucket seats and console, with matching door panels, I also ordered it with a 345/4 brl dual exhaust with HD 727 Torque Flite trans with HD 2speed transfer case, with 3:52 Detroit locker rear and limited slip front differential! That was an amazing truck. One time I had over 2,000 lbs of firewood, while towing another trailer with 3,000 lbs of more firewood. I also would tow my family’s boat down to the water every year and back after the summer, that was a 24’ Lyman wooden inboard V8 Chrysler that with the custom trailer weight over 10,000 lbs! Like it wasn’t there!

The Terra was my dream truck when I was in high school. My father had a business and he ran all IH equipment including his travel all. I used to drool over this truck at the dealership.

It's amazing that you are able to find so many IH trucks, and so many, like this one, from the original owner. It's great that you are saving them and passing them on for a second chance at surviving. In 1979 I worked for the local state park for a summer job and drove their SUV version of this. I think it was a regular Scout. I know it was dark green (state park color) and a fun little truck to drive with plenty of power.

I have one of these, 1978 Scout Terra it was purchased new by Jack Daniel's in Lynchburg Tn. I am 3rd owner. They only made in neighborhood of 3500 of these. These are Sam's wheelbase as the Scout Traveler. They are 16" longer than regular Scout, if you look under it right behind the cab you can see where it was lengthened on the frame rails. Mine has the 196 ci 4cyl engine half of the 392 v8 with automatic trans.and factory 410 gears.

I think you should do the work you mentioned and drive it to his birthday party. Not to give to him. I'm sure he would love to see it running and being appreciated.

You can send me a 76 3/4 ton 4x4 big block 4 speed truck (the first vehicle I ever owned) dark blue with a white lid would be nice but I'm not picky just like the PTO winch I could live without it I promise I'll take good care of it and use it as it was built for around the farm and even pulling a car to the dirt tracks after I find a camper to slide in it and my shed has a big open spot it would start to fill the IH guy around here can't find a 76 that isn't rusted out beat to crap or flat wore out I could always rebuild the engine as long as it runs good enough I know it's worth rebuilding I'd even write the stories down and keep them with the maintenance records so they don't get forgotten it may have been a 75 and the Scout was the bicentennial baby I can't remember anymore I'll have to go through my pictures somewhere I have a Polaroid of every vehicle I had with the year make and model wrote on the bottom I still do

I wish I were better at figuring stuff out as this fellow named Dennis Collins from the channel "Coffee Walk" (I think) he is buddies with gas monkey garage only he is a great guy, not a drunk like Richard from the gas monkey garage. He has a huge jeep collection and restores a lot of rigs. I think he would find this rig a new home and probably double what ever you are going to charge him... he has some real deep pockets and is a responsible kind of person. I would love to see it as either a survivor or even a full restore if thats what floats the whip cream in the latha coffee drink. You are doing a great job but trust me, there has to be a good million of them left as most of them were stronger than the other makes an models on the road. If you kept all of them, it would cover the state your in or at least a few counties/lol. For all those years I ignored the corn queens ... had a few of the eagles and other larger rigs international put out. I drove ford diesel rigs once I got started on them as they just don't quit..... I would of been smart to stay with the corn queen brand
