I've got a saying, "Doubles cause troubles." As I go about clearing up my property, I remove all the old and dying trees first. Then I select which others have to go. Doubles are on that list. I've got so many trees here that I can be choosy about which ones I keep. Believe me, it will be years, or maybe never, before I finish! I forgot you had that tree puller! Works much better than my short chain and three point. But a guy has to use what he has. I just bought a Wallenstein logging winch, and I think that will be a big help with the things I want to do. Getting those saw logs off of the steep hillsides is going to be much easier. Now if I could just get all of this snow to melt. The snow came early and has kept me out of the woods for most of the winter. It's hard to work there when it gets much more than knee deep. And this year it was more than knee deep right away. But patience doesn't cost anything, so that's been my go-to tool so far this winter. I'm ready for spring, though!

I had some rocky spots like this. I finally hired 5 14 year olds to make small piles, them put them in wagons to cart off. Used a tractor to pick up the few that were too heavy for them. A bit more expensive, but win win

Howdy Brock! It is looking pretty good. Nice to see WALL-E out having fun in the sun lol. No help here with identifying that tree. Maybe hold off on making a decision until spring when the leaves are on? Might help identify it. Thanks for sharing! 🤠

I might have thought about transplanting some of the better trees that are in the wrong place but that is up to you. Good to see that area cleaned up. Great video.

Rock rakes will put the rocks in rows and rotary rock pickers work pretty well. They work best in dry soil without a lot of trash and take a lot of power though.

That skid steer is a beast pulling out those trees. I would like to see how your tractor would do. I’ve been wanting a tree puller. That might be my next project…

Horticulture background here ... seems more like walnut or locusts... we had honey locusts at mom and dad's and those had serious thorns

I'd leave the oak, it'll be fine. Wait until the other tree leafs out, then you'll be able to identify it.

Just wait till spring, then you will know! With the dual trunk, you could cut off one trunk!

Great progress on the tree thinning Brock. That tree puller sure is a nice piece of equipment. I would keep the red oak since you know what species it is for sure. The other tree may not be a desirable species for you?

that ash looks pretty good but personally i would probably not keep it if it doesn't fit what you are trying to do there, on the other hand it would be a very nice tree if it can avoid the borer plague

The ash tree will die due to the emerald ash borer. It is all over the country. You are right, take the double crotch tree out, then wait till summer to identify the other tree.

Get rid of the double oak , it will unfortunately rot at the split probably. Water will sit inside their and rot it eventually, my 4 cents of course 🤪

I have an LS MT357, which I think is similar in size to your tractor. Do you think your tractor could handle the tree puller well enough? I know it would not compare to the tracked skid loader.

I would get rid of the Elm tree, It will die when it gets to be about 10-12 inches. I would then cut off one of the branches off the Oak tree. Learn how to cut it so it heals correctly.

Looks like walnut or locust to me. Both are good hard wood, but walnut bears nuts. Should be obvious when leaves come on. That "ash" tree might be a dogwood. They have really unique bark and have great flowers in the spring. They don't get all that big, but you can leave it and it will survive under the canopy of larger trees. I am also not watching on a great screen, so I may be way off.
