This Trail is a Must Ride for Mountain Bikers!
Captain Ahab in Moab Utah is one of those must ride trails. Challenging tech up and down with incredible scenery that will make you all warm and fuzzy inside. This video was filmed in March 2021 and I wasn't going to upload originally, but I wanted to have this video to look back on in 5, 10, 20 years. It was an amazing day of riding with good friends, and that's worth sharing. I haven't posted any POV rides in a long time as they don't often perform all that well in the KZread space. ‪@bkxc‬ His recent Sedona video was so enjoyable to watch it inspired me to put together just a raw highlight reel of riding with rad people. @huntstyle, Ryan, and Dan. Thanks for the memories and going on this trip!

Thanks Nathan! I rode my Nukeproof Reactor cause it was the only full suspension I had at the time lol. A hardtail here could be fun, but I knew it would be rough.

I've been trying to get used to riding clipped in. Couldn't imagine riding clips on this, terrifying 😳. Great video and riding.

Clipping in is excellent! I was hesitant the first few weeks, but after a while it becomes second nature and you get quick at unclipping when things get sketchy. I will say...I have far less cuts on my legs after switching to clips haha.

DUDE love this trail and ride it every time I am in Moab. I really enjoy the climb up Hymassa and The Capt. is just straight up fun. Wish I got to go with you guys the trip looked fun. Did you guy get to ride Rockstacker and Jackson? Glad you posted to the video I do enjoy the POV stuff.

Thanks Mike! I actually loved the climb up Hymassa too! I didn't post it as most people don't wanna see me huffin and puffin up a climb haha. We didn't ride Rockstacker or Jackson. We did Falcon Flow, Eagle Eye, a trail at Mag 7 that for the life of me can't remember the name, slickrock, Ahab, and another trail I can't remember that was kind of in town, but had some high consequence exposure. Moab is such a unique experience!

@@CobraKyle Falcon Flow was good. I rode Getaway/Great Escape/Little Canyon to the Jeep road. That is in the same area as Mag 7

I was in Moab at the end of September this year. I didn't ride Ahab, but there are some many trails there that are ridiculous. This kind of stuff is always worth posting even if it is just to have archived for your own enjoyment. You also get the opportunity to look at the surrounding terrain that you miss because all of your focus is on the trail ahead especially in those rather sketchy places. Good video Kyle. Now I need to go back and ride it myself.

Yeah it's a place you gotta go to like 3-5 times to take it all in. Appreciate the kind words! You must have read the description :) Always stoked to see a comment from you my friend!

@@CobraKyle forgot to comment about the open top toilets. That was a new one for me. It was chilly and windy when I had to avail myself of one but at least it was precipitating.

Maybe it's because of the chesty mount, or maybe the GoPro effect didn't kick in, but every single one of those off cambers with a gorge to the side looked like all the nope ever.

haha yeah it was pretty intimidating...especially once it started raining. You get so focused on riding though, you hardly think about the horrifying cliffs next to you!

@@CobraKyle what really stood out to me as I was watching this one was your previous lockdown ride through downtown and just how open and empty it was in a man made environment juxtaposed to how claustrophobic the natural space appeared.

Awwww man, this was my favorite trail in Moab. And one my favorite bike trips… I wish you would have left more of our shit talking in though. But thanks for putting this up, I know I’ll watch it again. 👊🏻

I always look for the shit talking first, riding action second. Surprisingly I didn't find much, or the audio wasn't clear enough to hear your dumb comments haha. I'll always remember this trip. It was epic and glad we all got to experience it together. Congrats Dad!

awesome!! last weekend i was on my way to moab and I ended up in Fruita, co. looks very similar lanscape. so many awesome trails... did you use a hardtail at some point?? How was the new trek in comparison with the nukeproof you had. we need more videos Kyle :)

Very cool! I've heard excellent things about Fruita. I do ride a hardtail, but didn't bother bringing one to Moab as I knew it would be rough. Currently have a Salsa Timberjack. The Trek is pretty awesome so far. Similar geometry wise to the Nukeproof, but lighter and a lot quicker to pedal around these Texas trails. More videos on the way! Just been a weird couple of months where I haven't been able to put as much time into this. I miss making them.

I wonder if a trail like that is even possible on a hardtail? I’m usually willing to try almost anything on my Fathom 2 but there are so many rock features in that trail I’m afraid my back would be broken halfway through.

  • @CobraKyle

    @CobraKyle

I'd say it's possible! Fun though? Probably not. Would certainly be a unique experience worth sharing! How do you like the Fathom 2? I've been trying to get one to review, but they are hard to get a hand on.

@@CobraKyle The Fathom 2 is a fantastic hardtail and a great value for the price. It's still a hardtail though so drops over 4feet and long tricky rock gardens give me pause. Its fun to ride and jump and its good uphill as well. I've found it can take quite a bit of abuse and push through just fine. I purchased it in spring last year and I haven't had any mechanical issues. Thumbs up all around aside from it just not being "the bike of choice" for big drops and rock gardens obviously.
