"What about me, Fiona? They'll believe me. How could you?"
She's not wrong. I had nothing better to do, so I sat on a jury for a three-day trial regarding an act of negligence which resulted in an injury. Defendant was an attractive, articulate, well dressed young woman. Plaintiff was an obese, badly dressed man in his fifties with an awful comb over who spoke heavily accented English. She was clearly at fault, based on her testimony and the relevant law cited in court. Initially ALL the men on the jury were on her side. "But she didn't MEAN to hurt someone." "She didn't KNOW he would come along right then." "This will ruin her life and he had medical insurance anyway." Unbelievable. It was almost impossible to get any of them to consider the actual facts and laws involved, but after a full day of deliberation, one of them finally engaged his brain. Even though one of the female jurors was equally an idiot, the rest of us were able to prevail, as a decision did not have to be unanimous. I can't imagine our panel being able to even understand a more complex case, let alone be calmly rational about one.

The one time I was on a jury, the defense lawyer was missing a hand, and badly groomed. He made a valid argument, but worded it in a convoluted, difficult-to-understand manner. The prosecuting lawyer was well-groomed, reasonably good-looking, and clear. In addition, his argument was about a technicality of the law, in a drug case where the Mexican-immigrant defendant was clearly guilty. He still should have got off on that technicality. I was the only one on the jury who even understood what the defense lawyer said. It took me over an hour to explain it to the only other person who even wanted to think or listen. Everybody else was talking about getting home for dinner on time, even though it meant twenty years of this guy's life to make the right decision. I am ashamed to say that I did not have the strength to fight those eleven people, but I was disgusted. It was vitriolic and base.

It's even worse. My sister opined to a lawyer friend that she thought it strange that uneducated people were more often selected for Jury duty. He asked her why she thought that and she said she had been called for Jury duty 5 times, while her engineer husband had never been. He sat back and confirmed it was true, especially toward engineers, because they're too rational. They tend to like people who are swayed by looks.

She's right about jurors. I once heard a juror say she voted not to convict because the domestic violence victim is "one of those large women who love black men". What in the h*ll does have to do with being physically assaulted!?
She hasn't taken people like me into account. I'm perfectly okay with the idea of sitting on a jury and my CBA at work mandates I continue to receive my regular pay.

Season 13, Episode 2 ("Shangri La")....I just read it in a comment.
So many people in this world who play pretty girl. Well, try under the cloak and say they’re pretty
Fairly easy answer: the Margeret Samson id showed her as over 21. If she is being carded in a bar of course she will show it, and who cares what name it says?

Tbh ive never seen the whole episode, but as i remember after it was discovered that she was margeret and not hannah she claimed memory loss, pretendimg that she actually believed she was hannah. And the "proof" that this was a scam 2as that she gave the margeret id in a bar. But if she really did believe she was hannah, and she had an id that showed her over 21, of course she would give it in a bar. As far as she knows shes undersge trying to score booze, and she has a fake id, and who cares what name it says right?

Simple ..... she denied knowing her but had and used her id ..... doesn't matter if no-one cares about the name on the id for entry purposes .... her arrogance got her sprung, but seriously can't imagine many people looking at the face and thinking oh yeah young 🤔🤔

A lawyer cannot legally lie, if they know of guilt, they must admit it and can only fight for reduced charges. The lawyer had been lied to and did not know what she was dealing with anymore - she had no grounds to defend her on, caught red handed like a lying snivelling rat.
