A few years ago, before I graduated high school, I first got hooked on y'all's videos. Y'all are both so cool and educated, and in part, played a role in inspiring me to go to college. Fastforward to now, I am about to start my first summer of graduate studies. I got my bachelor's in Field Biology and Ecological Sciences, and am now working on my Master's in STEM Education. I am a first generation college student and am also a fellow Arkansan. Thank y'all for playing a role in my ambitions. Thank you to the Harkens!!!

Thank you! And keep it up! There are probably (definitely) high school students watching your content who are in the same position I once was... caught in the crosshairs of important, life-altering decisions. I am sure that y'all will play a very positive role in their choices as well. Thanks again!

Cole, this episode may not have been the route you wanted it to go, but you had me “hooked” at the “wrong turn”. 😆 You made unfortunate events very comical for me. I laughed at each update. This was a “real life” episode for me. I have to say, I absolutely loved it. I am sorry you weren’t able to participate in the tournament, but you continued to bring us along for the float experiences and I appreciated the crazy day. I’m glad you aren’t one of those influencers who edit out the real life experiences to save your ego or who gives up when things don’t go as planned (proof is here today for sure) 😂 I appreciate YOU and your family. My husband and I love you and Jay, those two babies and your pups. We have been following you and Jay since before Cypress was conceived and feel like family (although you haven’t a clue who we are 😆). Keep doing what you’re doing and bringing the content…the good, the bad AND the funny! 😂😂😂

Cole, your style gives me PTSD! I made your mistakes forgetting stuff and being unprepared up until I was 16ish. Then I said never again. I bought a cheap fishing vest with a mesh back for cooling. I put stuff in it that I needed for every trip. My fishing went from high country back packing to deep sea fishing and every thing in between. Of course I had 8-10 tackle boxes that would be specific to where I was going but the vest always came along. It had a small zip on canvas bag. It was perfect for a bunch of blue gill or trout. I always kept paper towels in the vest. You could wrap the fish in wet paper towels and they would keep fine for hours. I had a first aide kit, small containers of blue gill size baits and a couple of extra stringers. I had a small container of bug repellent Among the most important was a great knife and a quality multi tool that cost more than everything else put together. I can't count the number of times I saved the day pulling hooks, repairing gear or having the right bait. In the last 50 years I can't remember forgetting something or wishing I had something. I know not everyone can make check lists and keep a small fishing diary but once you start fishing regular with kids they are really going to rely on you not to wreck a trip by leaving something at home. . .

Many years ago, I and three other parties were fishing in a lake in Canada. We were catching Northern Pike, and my brother-in-law ran a hook halfway through his thumb. We did not have any pliers in the boat and had to contact the other 2 guys who did have some pliers. We met them out in the lake, and I told him the best way was to cut off the eye and use the pliers to push the hook the rest of the way through his thumb. He did just that, and he didn't have any problems with infection at all. That has been at least 40 years ago. and all of those guys are now dead.

Take a spoon hold the top of the handle between forefinger and thumb, turn a water spigot on, then move the back or curved part of the spoon deflects out like it should or if it gets pushed into the flow of water. A spirit will push it into the flow to let u know it or they are there. Might be why you got hooked.

I’ve hooked myself 3 times in my life - once in the top of my head. The doctor took it out using fishing line and I never even felt it come out. The barb was in and completely out. It wan an Abu Spinner. The last time was a hook totally inside my left forefinger. The barb was inside the joint. It took 2 different doctors to get it out. The very first time was a #2 hook but the barb did not go inside the skin. Also - I stepped on the upper horn of a bullhead. It went right up into the bottom center of my foot. “That hurt for days.”

Why they drained it is beyond me (you might of mentioned why in one of your video's) but I don't recall.. Looks like a good lake though..

Mighty fine fish were in that lake. It does have a lot of issues and needed renovating just not for the 5 years they are doing it in. “They” is referring to the game and fish commission. Good bass, giant flatheads and 2lbs crappie on the regular. It’s sad. They started draining it 2 months after I bought a new boat. 🙄

If you are going to sit down while you do fishing then you should do it on a fishing boat. Not on what you are on ! The sides of your vessel should be properly protecting your legs. Because if it does not then when you reel back your line then your lure can easily get stuck anywhere on your leg, or foot. What should happen is if you were riding an appropriate fishing boat when you would reel back your line then it should be dragged to whichever part of the boat you are sitting on then the lure should be reeled in upwards towards near the tip of your fishing rod. Your legs are in front of your body while you sit down on your vessel. My guess is maybe you used lots of strength to reel back your line, and your line with lure had no control, so you hooked yourself on your leg !!! When you reel back your line, and hook, and it's far from you then you can go nuts if you want to reel back your lure with hook, but when the lure gets near you then you should slow down. The logic behind what I said involves safety, and control ! What you have chosen to ride is no good to do fishing!
