This stone is a bomb. Or is it the bomb? My Opal Journey: Stone 212

Ойын-сауық

Welcome stone 212. This little beauty is from a parcel of Ethiopian Opal I won. It is the second stone from this parcel that I have cut.
This stone is 21.9 x 12.2 x 10 mm in size and 7.9 carats in weight.
Will this be a bomb or will it bomb? Join me and find out!

    even though it lacks any real play of color, it is still a pretty cool little piece.

    "A" is the best and pretty cool you got it free. Bought some of this opal. I don't know if I'm ready to grind it yet.

    Thank you, and thanks for watching. Take your time when you do, and start with the worst pieces first so if you make mistakes it wont be as tragic.

    What's the best way to dop Ethiopian opal? It feels strange to me to put them into acetone when dopping with epoxy or super glue.

  • @ThatOpalGuy

    Well using wax it tough as this opal is more heat sensitive and may crack more easily. As for using superglue, I have had issues of it not wanting to release the stone and chipping it when I pull it off. Not ideal, certainly. I have not tried epoxy nor have I really tried putting them in acetone. A fellow creator, Carlyn's Colorful Creations, put one of hers in acetone to help dissolve the glue and it changed her stone and she was very unhappy with it. Hope that helps. I have done some without any dopping at all, which works but they can be very difficult to hold if small and polishing can be kinda messy when using cerium oxide.

    Why is most of the video sped up?

  • @ThatOpalGuy

    @ThatOpalGuy

    A couple of reasons: if I leave them as is it will be a very long video and as it takes many hours to edit a half hour long video (cutting parts out takes even longer) I find it easier just to speed up the footage some, and when I make this long of a video and the average viewing time is under six minutes, well...it is a bit frustrating.
