This train used to be on the CN Line on Vancouver Island. The line is gone and is now formerly known as a popular bike trail called the galloping goose

Went on the Joliet rocket with NKP 765 back in 2018, best ride ever! For most of the ride I was standing out on the boarding platform with my head out of the car. By the end of the day I had cinders in my hair. Hearing 765 charging down the tracks is a memory I will never forget.

Steam locomotives should never disappear.. 🚂🚃

I was able to watch Union Pacific's Big Boy 4014 this year, and everywhere it drew huge crowds of all ages, sizes, and walks of life. So many people in a collective state of awe and wonder is a delight to see. Live steam has an amazing effect on folks!

From the time I was a wee toddler (1956) until Amtrak ended service in 1985? I rode the the train from Superior, Wisconsin to St. Paul Minnesota. - a 3 hour trip countless times. When I was an adult I'd hang out in the lounge car drinking beer & playing gin rummy with people I'd meet. In 1993 I took a train from Houston, Tx. to St. Paul, Mn. & back - twice. (Aug. & Oct.). I'd still like to take the Empire Builder from St. Paul to either Seattle or Portland. I'd also like to take that Trans-Canada train.

The 2141 that was in operation on the CN tracks in the Cowichan Valley and through to Victoria in the 1950's ......... the tracks are long gone now called the Galloping Goose trail,but I'm glad to see this steam locomotive still going! ....... there are old movies of Canadian National's Vancouver Island operations that have been posted to youtube.

2:30, I'd argue best seat in the house, is the kid in all of us, being the driver of a Steam Locomotive, a steady hand at the throttle, feeling the power of the Locomotive as you open up the throttle.

I'm liking all these train videos. There's always something a lil special. In CO, there's a train from Durango to Silverton that's a coal steam powered train. Years ago, we took it and as a kid I remember it being fun sitting on wooden benches hearing the click clack of the rails. This train reminded me of that. Good times.

Lucas Cain huh from what I’ve been told as of 2015 that was one of the only if not the only active working steam engine left in Canada, maybe they were wrong

This brings back a lot of wonderful memories from the Texas State Railroad. I knew the superintendent that used to work there so I could ride with the crew whenever. I learned quite a bit the times I went there. Thanks for the memories.

i love steam trains i wish these old girls would make a real come back i would love to see them on the tracks again puffing their smoke .pretty sight to see.

There is also an amazing steam train in Summerland, the Kettle Valley Railway. It is in the beautiful Okanagan Valley about 2 hours from Kamloops.

I have been a railfan as long as I can remember. Crossed the U.S. by train twice in the 1960s. Went from North Carolina to San Francisco via Washington and Chicago the first time. The second time was the southern route through Atlanta, New Orleans, Los Angeles and a fantastic trip up the coast to San Francisco. This was all in coach and my typical meal was a beer and a ham sandwich in the club car.

Southern Railway used to do steam train excursions from Alexandria, VA to Front Royal, VA. Went on them several times as a kid. My Dad worked for Southern.

There's quite a lot of Good Heritage Railways over here in the U.K. I've been on 6 of them.

We have more and more heritage railways popping up not like the uk though. A lot of the lines are ripped up and gone now if you look at a map of the Canadian prairie every town that's on there had a line one time going though looked a lot like spaghetti all over the place. It is fun walking the old roadbeds though if you have nothing to do on a weekend. Have a old map from the 30s showing all the old routes kind of amazing that they ran passenger and freight all over the country side like that.

Here in Australia, we have a number of steam trains & trips that you can do on a steam train. I have been on a number of them over the past 50 odd years. I love the smell of coal - as a child of the 50s we still used the steam engines so I grew up with them & love them, the noise & the smell!!

Awesome job!!! I love trains too. I did the Grand Canyon Railway back in 94 with my grandmother. I also rode the Ione to Metaline Falls train in eastern Washington several years ago. Great experience.

What a beautiful old steamie! In my home, Czech Republic, Central Europe, railway fans and national company "Czech Railways" are still used to run passenger and freight steam trains on special events and celebrations, but these are modern and bigger ones from 50's and early 60's, so it's not that nostalgic as this train on video. They are also much faster and making more noise. Great video anyways 👌👌🚂🚂😊

How was the ride?

In 2011, I got qualified to operate the Atlantic 4-4-0 steam locomotive in Jefferson, TX. It took all of the 3-4 hours to get it ready to run. Started out by starting water to the tender, then oiling all the fittings directly beneath the boiler. Then I would light the fire and finish oiling the remaining fittings. The fuel was propane which meant there was a loud roar anytime the fire was lit. Unfortunately, 2011 was the year of the massive drought and heat wave in Texas and it clobbered the tourist business in Jefferson. And as you know last-hired=first-fired but it was great fun while it lasted.

Yup honeymoon on the train between Winnipeg, Manitoba to Kamloops, B.C. with a stop over in Banff, 40 years ago. We stop and watch trains whenever possible and we go out of our way to find campgrounds near tracks.

I need to go back to Canada, now more with these beautiful old steam machines that marked the British monarchy greetings from Chile

Been on several steam tourist railroads over the year's and just being on a 90+ year old steam locomotives is great, classic old trains, some were coal, some were oil and all of them have a diesel fuel backup locomotive when the steam locomotive 🚂 is in for maintenance, great times for sure 😊

Even though it isn't steam-powered, this video made me remember our trip on the White Pass and Yukon Route Railway out of Skagway in 2016. That was the excursion we chose from there on our cruise and it was so amazing. The nostalgia of it was incredible. I would recommend it to anyone. I can't wait to see the rest of your Alaska train videos of what you did.

Yes, l rode on the steam train at the Mid Continent Railroad Museum in North Freedom, Wisconsin. That steam engine has been out of service for twenty years but is being rebuilt and should be back in service again soon. It takes a long time to raise the money for the rebuild project. In the mean time, the museum still runs the train in the Summer time but they use an old diesel engine to pull it.

TFS I love trains, my father worked on "the Milwaukee Road" train in Wisconsin USA. 👍

Majority of steam locomotives where modernized to burn bunker oil no.5 in the 1950’s there are still some that burn coal and some locomotives from the 1890’s that burn wood.

Growing up, I had several Lionel train sets and what fun they were and even watching old Western movies, many would have a steam engine train scene or two so thanks for the memories!

Love your channel! Love trains too! Took the Rocky Mountaineer train from Vancouver to Kamloops and then on to Jasper. A really great experience. My Grand Dad was a Conductor on the Norfolk and Western Railway when it was steam operated and I guess it can get in your blood. I got hooked at a very young age. Really nice video about the steam train in Kamloops.

I haven't been to Kamloops since 1974. Perhaps I should go back. Strangely enough, my last long-distance train ride was after visiting Kamloops that year. I took a bus down to Spokane and went to the Expo. I then took the Empire Builder from Spokane to Minot. Great memories.

Riding the 2141 sure is nostalgic, and during some trips they do a train robbery reenactment where actors, riding horses and firing cap guns, pretend to rob the train

Your videos are really good and are on the same level as the travel shows that are on TV

To day the train have full electronique systeme for help to drive. The steam train is just mechanicale and you are a master of the world whene you drive this machine😎

2019 - that year I was on a 3000km trip on the Ghan, a train trip in Australia running from Darwin to Adelaide. Good timing as in 2020 the virus arrived and foriegn travel was put on hold.

What a great experience. We may have to make the drive to Kamloops this summer to see this place. Keep going 🚂

I used to Work on and operate Steam Locomotives, it was something else, you really can't respect how complicated and how much you really need to know your shit to operate or even work on these machines, I really do miss it

If you haven't go do the Durango to Silverton steam engine train trip in CO. 45miles about 4hr up the moutains to an old mine town. Its the most gorgeous scenery ever. You get a few hrs to hang out and explore Silverton. Then you can take the train back down or take the bus back which takes only about an hr by bus which is what we did but it was cool bc we got to see an entirely different view of the moutains on the way down.

I'm jealous, Michael. I'd love to ride on the Spirit of Kamloops. But I've had some great train experiences, too, in my 66 years. When I was not yet a teenager, I would ride on a pre-Amtrak era train called the Wabash Cannonball to visit my grandmother in Detroit. It was a four-hour ride for $4.35 one way! And I've also ridden on the maglev train between Shanghai and Shanghai Pudong Airport ... going at a top speed of 268 mph (or 431 km/hour). Covered the 29 miles in about seven minutes -- for US$6 each way!

I am a volunteer at a British heritage railway. They have been overhauling their oldest steam engine called “Fenchurch”, built in 1872 and they plan on using it soon and they have an event this month as it is turning 150 years old. They also have have an experience where you can pay to experience driving an engine where they show you the controls which I am hoping to do.

Quite surprising that this beautiful 1910's steam locomotive has a mechanical bell, considering that most locomotives of that time had manual swinging bells and mechanical bells weren't a thing until the early '40's.

I enjoy you trips very much, and this was especially enjoyable. I went on one long train trip that you should try, from Bejing, China to London, England. A long trip.

If you like steam trains, you should ride the, Strasburg Railroad, in Strasbourg Pennsylvania USA, it's an active steam railroad, it takes passenger excursions to the town of Paradis Pennsylvania USA. The whole town of Strasburg Pennsylvania USA is all about trains too. Several train Museums, train layouts, even a train caboose motel too. It's a great place for trains!

I've not been on it yet but vintage trains Ltd in the UK do Birmingham to Stratford upon Avon (where Shakespeare was from) over 50 miles round trip on mainline tracks.

The first time it was restored for (public trains) I went to Western Maryland to ride behind 1309!

I wish she still could. I believe CN stopped allowing them to run her on their tracks. Luckily she is kept in the museum and can still be seen.

Actually steam engines in the "old" days were either coal or wood. If the smokestack had a wide opening it was a wood burning steam engine. The wide smokestack allowed for filters to help control any embers from flying out. If the smokestack was a slender opening (like on this one you showcased) it would be a coal burning steam engine. Would love to take a ride on this train. Nice mustache, but you are much cuter without it ;-)

There are quite a few steam specials in the UK that run on network rail infrastructure. Indeed our local preserved steam railway, the NYMR (North Yorkshire Moors Railway) runs on it's own tracks between Pickering and Grossmont where some services connect onto the network rail track and on to a seperate platform at Whitby costal station where the NYMR rebuilt the platform and track on the unused side for their own use.

The Royal Hudson in Squamish needs permission to go on the tracks as it also uses active tracks. Very historic train.

As a locomotive engineer for cn it would quite the site to see one of those old girls run down the main line again. Looks like that one was built in the old montreal shops if im not mistaken if anyone knows more on her please let us know a canada version of the old scottish girls that got ship over from Britain back in the day.

Ever hear of the Strasburg Railroad in Lancaster County, PA. It is a steam locomotive similar to this one in the video. Has the same type of passenger cars. It is a major tourist attraction, along with the Amish farms in the same locale.

Great video. You should consider the Pennsylvania Railroad Museum and the Strasburg Railroad in Strasburg, Pennsylvania. They actually have restoration shops right on site. You would be blown away, if you love trains!

@@DownieLive ViaRail ran passenger service with BudCars on Vancouver Island's E&N line (Esquimalt and Nanaimo) until 2011 when after years of almost no track maintenance by CP and Rail America made it unsafe to operate. Check out Southern Rail of Vancouver Island on wiki for more. btw; The mustache is cute and handsome at the same time. It reminds me of my own high school photos. hehehe
