I LOVE plugins like this. And like you say, it's seems like the kind of plugin where you just turn the knobs and see what you get, even if you don't know what you're doing. I love that you (someone who DOES know what he's doing most of the time), feel this way too. For novices like me, when there's too many knobs with numbers I get lost. Not that I just want "pre-set" plug ins (I do wonder if this has some neat pre-sets), but I really don't mind plug-ins that decide "Here's what we do. We do it well. And we make it simple to play around with." The other companies that do that are "Freakshow Industries". (They have three WEIRD plug-ins, with the strangest interfaces ever, you should review them!) and "Baby Audio" (their free "magic" chorus is amazing!). Love this review. I'm gonna' buy it.......RIGHT NOW!

  • @JasonRblah

I've done some work in UI/UX (user interface and user experience), and generally when emulating hardware with software, you don't want to emulate a delayed animation on a binary switch unless you care more about pretending to be hardware than being useful. An animation introduces delay so from the instant you click the toggle button, there will be some delay before the toggling of the binary value, which likely will not be reflected in the visual animation at the same time. Usually a user interface wants a binary toggle to be instantaneous (as close to the user's intended press as possible so they aren't guessing where in that hardware moving of the switch the binary value actually changes, is it in the middle of the switch being moved or at the beginning of the press, what happens if you push it half way to Off and then back to On, what if you push it 1/3 of the way, etc). For a user of hardware to memorize that detailed kind of usage is just noise in their accomplishing what they set out to do. Therefore just because you are emulating hardware doesn't mean you want to emulate everything about the hardware. Let's see how you feel if your software plugin has a power tube failure, and you have to virtually send your plugin to the shop to get repaired. I actually worked at a major US company where we implemented a newer version of a TV hardware box which was now software-based emulating their old hardware, and they literally told us to replicate the hardware bugs, which included anything from visual artifacts to full on crashes, smh. What will happen if you program that binary switch with software to toggle back and forth faster than the software animation can play? Is it going to queue 200 on/off animations to play in a row or at some point drop some? It's a slippery slope.

But it’s cool to have something that you can throw on and literally give you two different versions of your song. Or you could just use it to get ideas about what direction you could take a song.

@@boimesa8190, downward compression is traditional compression with a fixed or variable threshold. Upward compression compresses the quieter parts of the transients.
