This should've come out 2 YEARS AGO! - Bose QuietComfort Noise Cancelling Earbuds

Ғылым және технология

The first 100 people to go to blinkist.com/shortcircuit will get unlimited access for 1 week to try it out. You’ll also get 25% off if you want the full membership.
Bose is well known for their audio products, so we're a bit surprised these came out now and not 2 years ago. Are they too late, or did they time it right?
Correction Note: Apple AirPod Pros are $249 USD, and the Bose QC Earbuds are $279. The issue with pricing location, and we're in Canada.

Note: We referred Apple Airpod Pros price in CAD, they are $249 in USD. The Bose QC Earbuds are $279 so they're actually more expensive... Update: It looks like a few days after this video was released, they now have the volume control on the earbuds, hurray!

Can I just say this was a really good Short Circuit video?! I'm not even sure what it is about it; something about the flow, the reactions... Everything just felt right and very authentic. Sometimes I think James (or the other writers) try too hard to be funny. While I can appreciate goofy humor at times, this one was kind of refreshingly straight-forward and informative.

Great video, James! As someone who is about to graduate with a doctorate in Audiology (the science of hearing and balance) your ears don't really "wear out" from listening to music/content over headphones unless you exceed a safe listening volume. A good rule of thumb is 50% volume for no more than 50 minutes without giving your ears a rest. Time and intensity are the two key factors when it comes to noise-induced hearing loss (hearing loss from sustained exposure to loud sounds). If you listen at a moderate volume for not too long, your ears will be just fine. Wear earplugs or muffs around hazardously loud sounds (firearms, powertools, concerts), eat a healthy diet, and exercise and you can preserve your hearing as you age. Always a good idea to have your hearing evaluated by an audiologist around every 1-3 years to keep track of it though! Keep up the great work!

Also, your earing doesn't "wear out" by use, it either degrades over time (because of natural aging), or gets damaged by abuse (excessive loudness). You won't end up with "uneven hearing" by using only one ear to listen to music, unless you're exposing that ear to unsafe levels of volume.

I agree in regards to the account and notifications being mandatory. The location access is an android thing though NOT caused by Bose. Any app that wants to control anything regarding bluetooth autoconnect and Bluetooth LE requires location access since the android 8 (or even earlier) days. Bose can't change anything about that if the app is supposed to be able to access the buds properly. Imo google really has to change it so that the bluetooth permissions are separate from localization like GPS etc..

I purchased Sony WF-1000XM3 earbuds, for noise cancelling. They are wonderful for that, but I was very pleasantly surprised with the music quality. Many ear tips to choose from. Softer, and firmer tips. Also good battery life. Case nice too, and fun to flick open.

I bought a set and really love using them, they’re the only earbuds that remain comfortably in your ears for longer time. I have other Bose products and didn’t want the Sony or apple equivalents because I’d miss the warm sound of the bass and the clear classical instruments. Also, if anyone cares, noise control doesn’t block crying babies, at all. And the sounds like putting metal objects like cutlery in a drawer screws up the NC and gives cracking sound. When NC is off you can keep them in and still have normal conversations. Other then that I love them, was indeed waiting some years for this.

Boosting the bass/highs at lower volumes has existed for decades. Stereo receivers from the late 1960s introduced a manual "Loudness" eq switch/button. High quality receivers even had a loudness dial which could be adjusted based on how quiet you were listening
