The grandmother is the “Queen” to this “King” demon meaning he can only be summoned through her blood line and that’s “Hereditary”
@TurntBucket
7 ай бұрын
Are you sure? I figured that the grandma just worshiped him and implanted her family with it. I assume any person that became the leader of the cult could do this to their family. I also assume that you dont even need to be the leader to do this but because its a privilege the leader is the one that gets to do it.

This film depicts shock at an event like that more realistically than any movie I've seen. In most films, the death of a loved one results in a little crying and some somber music, not the absolute devastation we see here.

I’m sorry but no . I understand that he’s a teenager and made a terrible mistake and also he’s grieving in his own way. However this needs to be said that doesn’t absolve him of his role of in the death of his sister . As someone who is an older sibling I understand that he wanted to him out with his friends and get drunk and high . And it sucks to have to bring your younger sibling along. But he was responsible for her. He didn’t even pay enough attention to her to see if what she was eating had nuts in them . Which he knows that she was allergic to. Once he did notice he drove high as f and caused the death of his sister and made his own mother see what was left of her child’s body. I completely understand where she’s coming from. Her response was a real response and a completely understandable response
“Is she in the car or _out_ of the car?!” Both.
watched this film so many times and i always end up feeling the worst for Peter. one of the most realistic portrayals of shock i’ve ever seen. his presence throughout the film feels more and more dreading as it goes on, just becoming more of a husk. i wish they had included the deleted scene between him and the dad in the final, its so heartbreaking and really gives the realization that he’s just a teenager. Alex Wolff is an incredible actor.
Not once during this film did anyone say "Annie are you okay? Are you okay Annie?" And I feel like it was a missed opportunity
This movie had me checking the corners/background of every room I was in for MONTHS after I saw it since the sister is just creeping around lurking in the background of many scenes. I didn't see the turns and twists coming but what a ride.
After Hereditary, Midsommar is a must watch 😊

Interesting how you have no empathy for Peter when he was deep in shock.
the fact that ppl think this movie was horrible is beyond me
"Is she in the car or out of the car?" Yes
I only truly got how clever this film was on the second viewing where I began to see how well they set up the ending. This is the only other horror film other than the Exorcist that truly disturbed me.

Me too!! the exorcism of Emily rose used to disturb me pretty good, too..
No, Annie did not dig up her mother’s grave. There was a whole cult to do that for her. Remember she said in group that her brother was schizophrenic and committed suicide because he kept saying his mother kept trying to put people in him? She was queen of this group for a long time
I think a connection a lot of people don’t point out is that Annie’s past with sleepwalking and nearly killing Peter is likely why Peter couldn’t face her after Charlie’s death. He’s already afraid of her before the movie starts.
Don’t get the hate for the brother. He was obviously in shock, it’s not like him freaking out would have changed the outcome
@BJBee
Жыл бұрын
He was catatonic with shock. His mind can't process what just happened and he just shuts down.
Going in blind…. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha………. Hope you enjoy, I love this movie. BTW, Annie didn’t dig up the body. If you go back to when the family is returning from her funeral, you can hear noises in the house before they walk in the door. The cult had been going in and out of the house already, and they are the ones who put the body in the attic, wrote the incantations on the walls, and put the triangle on the floor in granny’s room. Also note that Annie doesn’t do any sleepwalking in the entire movie, she actually only dreamed that she was. P.S. The cutaway to Ripley in Aliens was priceless, lol! I’ve left that quote in the comments of many horror movies, and you guys beat me to the punch this time.
He was in shock.
Yeah what happens to Charlie is incredibly shocking and you don’t see it coming at all so it definitely packs a punch. Her chopping the bird’s head off I feel is a foreshadowing of what is gonna happen to her. While this movie is not my favorite horror movie it is definitely one worth watching more than once since it’s so good. Also I love the opening shot too, it’s really neat. Since I’ve first watched this movie I kind of wish more movies would do shots like that because it’s so interesting.

Even though it exhibits some elements of other movies, it almost feels like a modern day horror (and drama?) classic. Thanks to you both for sharing!! ❤️🥂
I've mentioned this before on YT, but the part I find most unsettling is that in both 'The Exorcist' and 'Hereditary,' the evil entities whose names are used are ones historically worshipped and conjured. The one from 'The Exorcist' from ancient times in Assyria and Babylon, and the one from 'Hereditary' from a 17th century grimoire. I'm a believer in things spiritual, and try my hardest to associate with the Lord God. This stuff gives me the heebee jeebees.

It's literally about a bloodline a particular demon can be summoned to this world from. Every single thing that happened to that family was just that 'process'. They're dolls, collateral damage. And the final host needed to be broken and traumatized beyond repair so he can't fight the demon when it comes.

Another great reaction. A bit of geekdom here for you. The lore regarding Paimon in this is nearly spot on. They have only made a couple of little changes. 1. Paimon is 1 of 9 Kings of Hell, not 8. They changed this to tie it in with a compass direction. 2. The beheading of sacrifices hasn't got anything to do with Paimons demonic lore. But Feth me does it add some shocking brutality to the movie. 3. The floating bodies IS part of Paimons lore. If you go back & pause on the page about him in the book you'll see that he is able to bend or break the laws of physics. So floating is no problem what so ever. Hope this helps add a bit of extra creepiness to a great horror. Have an amazing week & much love to everyone from here in the UK
this might be the best reaction to this movie, I reacted the same way you guys did when I saw this the first time. loving the content :)
I’m not sure if Charlie’s book was a temporary vessel for Paemon, but it wouldn’t let the mother burn it unless it meant everyone except for Peter had to be sacrificed. That’s why the Dad had to die before she completed the sacrifices by beheading herself.
It's paimon in the body. He was in Charlie since the very start of the movie. Then moved to Peter. Notice the funeral in the beginning. Charlie was doing the click thing. That's him. The son guessed right, Charlie was paimon the whole time.

They're puppets being controlled by external forces. Their lives were orchestrated and they had no real control over events. The demon can only be summoned through their bloodline and needed a healthy host. The first girl was 'defective' so they got rid of her. They traumatized the boy beyond belief so he's broken and easily taken over.
The cult dug up the grandmother. If you really saw or heard all the easter eggs you'd notice the cult was in the house as early as after the funeral. You can hear them in the attic walking around. Also when watching this movie I'd suggest pausing the video whenever something comes on the screen that has to be read. The note she found early on was her mother explaining, vaguely their coming sacrifice. You truly must watch this movie more than once to catch everything
This movie is so utterly creepy and scary. I was really surprised only because not many movies these days are actually this scary and good. It was just really well made in my opinion. One of those movies that leaves eerie energy around the whole night after viewing it.

"Existential dread" is the most perfect way to describe this film, I have never felt a family SO doomed, from before the movie even starts, more than this! The dread is thicker than the air in this. Loved your review, and both of your thoughts. This was one of the last films I saw in a theater before Covid shut everything down, and I LOVED it! And critics liked it too, but, at the time, there was also an online backlash from teens, and general audiences, who probably expected jump-scares and constant gore, and then felt tricked into a slowly creeping, brutal family drama, even though it absolutely leads to supernatural horror! Happily, due to reviews like yours, the film has seen some recent redemption, appreciation, and respect. That Toni Collette wasn't nominated for an Oscar for this, makes me take that award less seriously now! There's a long history of The Oscars snubbing genre films, but, c'mon... Everyone in the cast was great, cinematography and score are amazing, and I'm over 50, and it finally replaced "The Shining" as my favorite horror film! I only wish I could share this with my mum too! But, 5 minutes in and she would be OUT! Thanks again, loved this!
What did Steven do? Like really? He ignored everything that was going wrong with the family, didn’t get his son out of danger, didn’t get mental help for his wife, Steven couldn’t hold water nonetheless his family.
@robertyeah2259
Ай бұрын
They deleted tons of scenes of Steven that you can find on KZread, and I’m puzzled as to why they didn’t keep more of it. Essentially, Steven is a psychiatrist who met Annie because she was his patient. He’s always suggesting things that they “could” do, but seems to keep a distance because it isn’t considered ethical for a psychiatrist to cross the bridge between personal relations and his profession. There’s more scenes of him telling Annie that he’s becoming afraid of her, and even an apology scene with Peter where Peter says he’s sorry for killing Charlie. The movie was already long so I don’t know how another 5 - 10 minutes was just too much lol
“Is she in the car or out of the car?” Both ;)
