You asked for it, so you're getting it. We're diving into the 2018 Ari Aster film Hereditary. And yes, this one's a SPOOKY one.
From shocking twists to spine-tingling scenes, this movie had me on the edge of my seat. Don't miss my full reaction and post-movie thoughts. And yes, I say the word "creepy" about 500 times in this video.

No, if a filmmaker puts something to read on the screen and doesn't give you enough time to read it, then it's not that important. Like the opening, you have enough time to get that it's an obit; the rest was extraneous.

  • @meghanmonroe

@@riskey I disagree. That might be the opinion of the filmmaker, but there are times when someone is watching a movie about a subject they know nothing about and every bit of text is crucial. Some people just don't read at the same speed as others. I'd argue that if a filmmaker includes text for any significant amount of time, it's important. Look at Schindler's List, for example. There are many added bits of text to help the viewer fill in the history of what's happening on screen. Much of that text goes by quickly...but that doesn't make it unimportant.

That's a serious movie to kind of dive into. It's like "I'll climb a hill today... Let's try Everest!". It's not the most disturbing movie but it's up there. The whole thing is pretty incredible tense buildup leading to the insane apocalyptic ending. Toni Collette should have every award for this. One of the most disturbing things is that you could interpret the mom's sleepwalking as being the forces of good influencing her. But that means that "good" wants her to set her children on fire.

Pro tips...The director did Midsonmar as well. It's good but I just kinda didn't buy the premise, so I wasn't as impressed. This movie here, I would put up with The Thing, Exorcist, the shining, a few others. How Toni Collette didn't win an Oscar for this, is beyond me! A bit of horror truth, when he smashed his face in the desk, he was supposed to hit padding but didn't. His face looking all dislocated, was real! Also Peter's first class, is the same subject from the original Holloween, and the trailer for this came out the same day, the Halloween reboot did!😮😮😮what was hereditary in this family wasn't mental illness, it was Grandma and proly those before her, driving family members insane, with their satanic/cult worship! Charlie was already possessed, represented by the clicks. Heard while she was alive, and after she died, BEFORE the seance. I would say, joan tried sacrificing her son and grandson. Either they killed themselves, or she killed them. Seems if Paimon is not happy with a body it is in, it has to doe and be beheaded, so paimon can leave the body i say it happened to dear old grandma, and definitely happened to Annie and Charlie!

Actually the director Ari Aster did another movie called "beau is scared" (2023) it's a very kafkian story .... it's like living one of those weird nightmares that makes no sense just your brain messing with you and showing you what you fear the most ... defenitly not for everyone but it's still interesting to see

No clue if you read comments on vids this old. But great reaction to true tension horror. The sort of thing that lets your imagination do half the work, so makes it 1 million times worse A bit of geekdom here for you to help settle your mind The lore regarding Paimon in this is nearly spot on. They have only made a couple of little changes. 1. Paimon is 1 of 9 Kings of Hell, not 8. They changed this to tie it in with a compass direction. 2. The beheading of sacrifices hasn't got anything to do with Paimons demonic lore. The reason it was included is from the original artwork of King Paimon from history (the pic in the film). You'll see 3 heads hanging from his belt. That is the ONLY thing that even hints towards that needing to be done. As well as to add a bit more ritual & some reason for the gore. & Feth me does it add some shocking brutality to the movie. But to cover a couple of the less than obvious things. The floating bodies IS part of Paimons lore. If you go back & pause on the page about him in the book you'll see that he is able to bend or break the laws of physics. So floating is no problem what so ever. Also making his followers super rich would be simple. Again he can bend/break the laws of physics. So hand him a block of wood & he could just change it to solid gold, as an example. Hope this helps add a bit of extra creepiness to a great horror. Have an amazing week & much love to everyone from here in the UK

I actually use these reactions to gauge what kind of person the reactor is. Most people don't trust Joan once she approaches Annie in the parking lot thinking it's all too convenient, but Cristy is all like 'aw she's sweet'. Some understand that when Peter accidently killed his sister, he was stoned, in severe shock on top of being a teenager that wasn't really responsible to begin with, others keep questioning why he doesn't go to the hospital or tell his parents.... it's because at that point there are NO good options, it's all too overwhelming. It gives interesting insight. Also I can't believe you didn't include Charlie's head rolling off in Peter's dream or when Annie flew across Peter's room when his back was turned.

but at the beginning they say "we don't have the epipen", implying they have an epipen, they just didn't have it with them. plus the husband is a psychiatrist (I think?) and Annie seems to be a successful artist and they own a very nice house. there's no way they wouldn't set aside enough money to make sure their daughter doesn't die. Annie absolutely should have sent the epipen with them to the party.
