This road makes cars roll uphill - here's why
Ойын-сауық
Mike and the team travelled to the Isle of Man to seek out one of the strangest roads in the world! Known as 'Magnetic Hill', this trip of Tarmac has baffled tourists and locals for decades. Is there some genuine physics-bending trickery going on?!

@@ronknox3376 If you search Magnetic Road in Brampton it will show you. Looks like it's just outside the city to the north.
Had this "issue" in the austrian mountains. It appeared we where driving downhill, but the fully packed toyota ago only went slower and slower. To the point i set the car next to the highway thibking it was broken. It was the moment we exited the car we relealised it was actually an uphill climb 😅 indeed the mountains around is made us unable to see the horizon.
Electric Brae in South Ayrshire, Scotland. Been on it loads of times. Baffles the mind!
This was silly and I loved every minute of it! Gotta stop and have fun, and also look for aliens, perhaps, once in a while.

he should have used a spirit level, or GPS, it shows you that what he says is not true, the car move backwards and the altitude increases too, so this was a silly explanation!
3:04 I like how Mike adjusts the camera, forgetting the two people stood behind the camera can be seen in the reflection on the car
The road identities itself as an Australian road, hence upside down behavior

Is there not a hill in Ayrshire that the same phenomenon happens to?

man, y'all kept drive tribe, do this on drive tribe and do more food stuff.
There’s a similar bit on the M3, between london and Basingstoke that has a similar effect. I remember driving on it, looking at my MPG and being baffled that it was going down, despite thinking I was going down hill.
there's a road in my country that does this same exact thing and it also has tons of weird supernatural stuff going on other than cars rolling back up the hill. it has ghosts and other phenomena too.
There's a 'Magnetic Hill' also in Victoria, Australia. Quite fascinating.

I knew right away this was an optical illusion. But not how it worked in this case. Interesting 😊
We've got a bunch of these in the US. Usually with a tacky gift shop next to it.

What a fantastic little video, cool stuff
Isle of Man weather checks out.
I love that content with mike
There’s going to be so many people that are today years old finding out the iPhone has an electronic spirit level function as part of the phones software when you buy it. Super handy too.
There are several places like that here in NZ so I knew immediately what it was. I'm also a road surveyor that drives and tests a variety of roads in the country so I already knew about it anyway from my job lol. FYI these are called Gravity hills.
There’s a place called hangman’s hill in Epping forest with same thing. Story around it I believe is there was a tree at the top of the hill where people used to be hung it’s said that the hangman pulls you up the hill with the noose
There are "magnetic hills" all over the place. It usually just needs the right bit of topography and an obscured horizon. Take a level with you and the illusion is obviously dispelled.
There's a Magnetic Hill near Orroroo in South Australia too.
I drive through something similar everyday. Looks like I am going downhill but I see fuel consumption meter goes up...
There’s one of these near where I live. You can even get out and it looks like it’s going uphill. Pretty cool.
That’s really cool
There's a similar road near Hanging Rock in Victoria Australia. Does your head in.

I was thinking of the same place, love taking visitors there.
The biggest non-artificial clue is the trees pointing straight up. The simplest artificial check is to tie something to a string and hold it steady, showing what's up and down.

Ideally something not magnetic too m, like a piece of dense wood or blob of glass. A long standing misconception is it was because magnetism hence the name. (Most pendulums are steel or lead)
Awesome, there's one near Volcán Barú, Chiriquí Province of Panama
It literally looks like its rolling down hill, legit no illusion
As a kid I was told of such a road in Indonesia I think. But there is was anomolous gravity, or so the story was.
here in my country there is a hill with the same topology, when you are there it feels weird, a massive optical illusion
We have one in Rowan County NC. thats really awesome to see this somewhere else
Nacho Varga is the best of this type of car videos
So it took you 3 minutes to explain what everyone was already expecting.
this is like if tom scott was a car channel
This is basically a Tom Scott video, if Tom Scott was from Scotland, younger, and bald.
WE NEED MORE OF " THE THREE " LOOKING AND TALKING ABOUT THE CARS THEY DROVE FOR SPECIALS !!!!!
When I went to school I had to constantly cycle uphill both ways.
Fun simple video I like it
I swear everyone has a road like this local to them. There's a famous road near my town called "roller-coaster hill". Same effect.

There's one in the Dominican Republic in Barahona Province (southwest of the country) heading into the town of Polo
Scribes Sando suggestion - bread, banana, raw sugar and butter
There's a phenomenon in my apartment that makes women roll out the front door instead of in to my heart.
We have a similiar road in Cairo(Egypt) beside the citadel.
just beside croy bay?
I've seen the same thing as a kid in Electric Bray in Scotland! I was so baffled. 😅
Is it as strange in real life as it is on video? What a cool little video

In Bom Jesus de Braga - Portugal we have a road just like this one
Did someone notice that the car is a M5 Touring with a manual gearbox (!) which is suuuuper exotic?
We have the same thing just Northwest of Moncton, New Brunswick.
Theres a road here in American in the state of New Jersey, its called gravity hill road but the car doesn't actually move its just and optical allusion that its moving uphill
There's a road like that near Hanging Rock in Victoria Australia, same effect
Or if you go there in person I'm pretty sure you can feel the gravity of which side is up and down like a normal hill.
I remember reading about a similar short story from the "physics for entertainment".
Mind blowing
Bro that hill took that phrase down is up and up is down personally
they have one of these in Victoria Australia. its a weird feeling O.O
There is a similar optical illusion on Llangynidr mountain near Crickhowell Powys. And this road has been visited many times by car test magazines.
What a machine
What next? Add a tasteless theme park all around it, thus ruining it. Like they did to the former 'Magnetic Hill' in New Brunswick Canada.

We have one of those in Pennsylvania it's called Gravity Hill it's right by where I live.
You also have the Magic Road in Waterford, Ireland
there is one such phenomenon in Kenya as well!

There’s one in southern Cyprus very weird sensation but funny

We have one here in Indiana, too.
In Sonoma county California north of San Francisco we have A road called gravity hill does the same thing 😁
