This Pro-Wrestler Worked for SOE in WWII - George de Relwyskow
BRITISH WWII SOE COMBATIVES INSTRUCTOR
Born in Kensington, London 18 June, 1887 to Russian immigrant parents, de Relwyskow took up wrestling whilst studying as an artist as a way of keeping fit. By age 20, he was 2 times English amateur champion at both lightweight and middleweight. He was then selected for the 1908 Olympics in London where he won gold at lightweight and silver at middleweight. He was the first wrestler to win two medals in two different weight classes and the youngest to win gold. He went on to become lightweight champion of the world in 1909.
Correction: at 1:58 we indicate that 'The Art of Wrestling' was published in 1925; this is an error, as it was actually first published in 1919.
ULYSSES FILES is a KZread channel dedicated to showcasing primarily military history content (plus certain other topics) in short documentary form, featuring interesting and quirky characters and stories from the late 19th Century on through the 1st and 2nd World Wars to the present.
It is not always possible to find 100% accurate footage to illustrate these cinematic short films, but where possible ULYSSES FILES strives to keep it authentic. Background music will always attempt to provide appropriate emotional mood.
Topics and content are thoroughly researched and portrayed in their historical context for both educational and entertainment purposes. We try our best to be accurate in terms of the data in our short films, but are not experts in all areas and are always learning new things, so if we get something wrong - please feel free to contact us. I am devasted that I am just seeing this as KZread sent no notification!!! Thank you so much for presenting a wonderful video on this gentleman. He was truly an awe inspiring man. He departed this world too soon but thankfully he did write his excellent book which I have owned for years. While not as famous as others, in my opinion he contributed as much or more to combatives than his more well known contemporaries. Thank you again for your excellent work! We appreciate all that you do. 🙏

Yes he was 🙌🏻
I know quite a few armed forces dudes are into MMA and have good skills, but do you think they still read up and practice these old techniques? How vital were they back in the day, wow. Trench raiding parties = balls of steel.
