  • @FindingAmerica

    It's actually kind of cool because it's a fake. The original photo was of Spock leaning against his 1964 Buick Riviera in the studio parking lot in full makeup and costume back in 1966 when he had finished shooting the first season of Star Trek. Someone decided to photo shop him leaning on the front end of a 1970 Judge. It looked really cool and the fake photo has since taken on a life of its own on the internet.

    As far as using another factory coil from a metal detector manufacturer, you can not interchange them between brands. However, there are some aftermarket coils out there for some of the Bounty Hunter models that are made by NEL and Mars. Both of those companies make great accessory coils.

    Really interested to know if you think there is much difference between the M8 & M9..

  • @FindingAmerica

    @FindingAmerica

    Ай бұрын

    Hi Kimberly, If you have the 5 1/2" X 8" M8 coil already, I don't think there would be enough advantage in performance alone to warrant spending the money for the M9. With that said, there are reasons why some people might want one over the other or why they might even want both. The M8 has excellent separation and very impressive depth. It's small elliptical shape is perfect for getting in between targets and for hunting in thick woods, rocks or tight spaces. The M8 will have the advantage in separation but I think it's a slight one as the M9 really separated well for me out there. The M9 is the perfect go-to coil for those wanting good ground coverage, excellent depth and excellent separation. It's perfect for those not wanting to swing the 11" around because of its weight or size but don't want to swing the M8 as they need something that covers more ground. I love how slim this new coil is as well. It will be an awesome coil to use in the water as it will have far less resistance while swinging it. Hopefully, I will be able to find that out for myself this summer. The M9 is actually 1.2 ounces lighter than the M8 and the further set back mounting point offers excellent balance once it is mounted on the shaft. It was a joy to swing and this would be a great coil for older detectorists to just use as their one and only coil. It will tackle everything they will ever need it to and take it easy on their arms. I think the M9 coil would also be a superb coil to use on farm fields and pasture giving the user excellent target separation while still providing nice ground coverage and depth. It will also be a lot easier to work with in stubble and brush thanks to its more open frame design. With all that said, I think I will be using the M9 as my main coil from now on and then switching over to the M8 when I get into the really thick iron or trash. I always have my M11 and M15 for any deeper seeking needs when required. Hope this has all made sense to you as I am just typing on the fly here as I am thinking about it and I hope it helps answer your question. ATB Greg
