BF Skinner (one of the founders of behavioralism like Pavlov) said that negative reinforcement doesn't stop behavior. You have to not reward it to stop it. So yah, there's a good chance he might start enjoying the shocks. Lol

Not possible unless you get some type of 'pleasure' from the shock itself That's why bad habits are bad to break, we subconsciously enjoy them & if you do get any 'pleasure' from the shock Do it at a higher, longer, & more times per volt shock till you can't take it no more & your compelled to stop it because you can't bare the pain Simple psychology ;]

I bought this last year to use an alarm clock. I am an extremely heavy sleeper and I don't get enough rest during the week because of work and studying. I don't care what others say, it is the best alarm I ever owned once I sorted out the blue tooth issues and how to use it. It is guaranteed to wake me up, which is worth the price because I get night time anxiety before I go to bed..worrying I won't wake up and I will be late for work. My favorite feature is that I can set the first alarm with just vibration, then a second alarm at whatever time interval I want with sound and vibration (i do this 10 minutes after the first alarm), and then a third alarm if I am still not awake I set for (vibration, sound and electric shock). I can set the shock strength to whatever you want, I set it at 20% so I can feel it but it doesn't hurt like it would at 100%. I think people criticizing the product never had to deal with having difficulty waking up, like I have. Or others that might be hard of hearing and can't hear an alarm clock.

Of course you need to have the willpower to do this to yourself, but it is based on the pavlovian conditioning. You can read about it in wikipedia, but basically if you shock yourself when you indulge, you will be far less likely to indulge in it in the long run since you mentally associate it with the unpleasant shock.

You could reward yourself for being erect, and only give yourself that reward when you are erect. This would encourage you to be erect in the desired situation. It wont cure erectile dysfunction though, only help with the recovery process. Reward is a different type of conditioning from punishment, both have different effects and results.

I have to painfully say that this actually works. I have been using this thing as an alarm clock for about a year now. Might actually use it to break a habit one of these days.

The gadget has been named pavlok after the Russian physiologist Ivan Pavlov. This is because it uses his theory o classical conditioning due to which a person associates the shock from this gadget with the bad habit and on doing so,he/she starts to avoid the bad habit out of fear of getting the shock.

You're not "hacking your mind", it's using psychological conditioning. Thus the reference to Pavlov's Dog.

That IS basically hacking your mind. He doesn't know the exact word for the phenomenon, so obviously he is going to try using a metaphor instead. Please don't be so stupid and full of yourself. Not everyone concerns themselves with the names of psychological phenomenon like you. He is doing what he can do to describe the idea that popped into his head. Just because you know what it's called doesn't mean everyone else in the world needs to know it as well. Information is best distributed through common metaphors anyways. This obviously isn't a psychological documentary. If you feel unsatisfied with his description, go elsewhere. He's obviously going to appeal to the larger audience. That's not you.

aww is someone triggered? No, it's not hacking your mind. Conditioning is sometimes called subconscious training. Not hacking. Training. Stay mad lol

Enid Redden I don't think he was trying to be egotistical or sound smart, the term "hacking" implies, at least to me, that something being done in an unconventional way. The way the dude in the video says it, makes it seem like this device is some magical thing that "hacks" your brain if you get what I'm saying. That's not the case. Classical and Operant Conditioning are not novel concepts. Although not formally described until the 1800s and 1900s respectively, they have been around since the beginning of our species. Reinforcement, Punishment, and Stimulus Association, is how we learn, how we teach our children, and we, along with other species, have been doing it for thousands of years. It's not "hacking your mind" it's well studied behavior patterns that animals exhibit.
