Love this style of video Melanie! I am a relatively new knitter and I am slowly beginning to see the importance of carefully looking at patterns to see if they are constructed in a way that will suit my body shape and will go with other things in my wardrobe. Your video goes a long way in helping to do this! Thank you!

Totally understand the embracing skin color. I should be wearing cool toned clothing but at 48 I still struggle with my pale white sickly looking skin and continue to pick warm color clothes. I just hate pastels and cool colors.

Ooh i just purchased the Cocktail cardigan pattern after a lot of searches and I’m waiting for the yarn now. I’d love to see your complete work if it’s done.

Mel, thanks for the pattern detailed review and comparison. I prefer, as much as possible, an all-in-one process knit. It's the cocktail cardigan for me, too! 🧶

as a beginning knitter, I really appreciated this video a great deal. It’s very useful to have a more experienced knitter explain how to “read” pattern descriptions for things like the differences between different sleeve/yoke constructions.

Hi Mel, I liked this video, and I favourited the cardigan you chose, I like the neckband being knit at the same time, as I am not a fan of picking up stitches. I also ❤ Art of Yarn, I have ordered from them 3+ times, but never been, a knitter friend turned me onto them. Fun, is that the knitty stew did a visit there on her Kelowna video, so I got to see the shop and the staff, take care, happy fall knitting, Melissa.

Love this video so much. Would love to see more with 2 or 3 design options. Such as simple crews, vests, etc. In fact you helped me pick a pattern. I was always going to knit the April cardigan but think I will switch to the Cocktail.

I liked this video a lot! This is basically the process I go through when deciding what to make next, as well. I'm very particular, and I want to make sure I make something I'll wear. 😁

I’ve recently discovered your channel and am very impressed with the thought you out into your content. This episode was perfect in a way, because I’ve been looking at v-neck cardigan patterns but wasn’t completely satisfied by any until now. Its the cocktail cardigan for me, too! I really like contiguous sleeves for the reasons you mentioned and do not like picking up stitches for button bands…. This could be perfect! The only thing that has me still hesitant is that in many of the on person photos, the back neckband seems kind of weirdly raised (or standing up)-ish. It doesn’t seem to lie quite as flat as I would expect. Did you notice that too? Am curious if that is due to the construction….I’m just finishing my first contiguous pattern as a pullover and I’ve also noticed some puckering at the neck / shoulder join. Am curious if that will block out. Anyway, lovely color and I look forward to seeing your progress!!

Hi! Thanks so much for pointing out the collar situation. I reviewed the project photos on Ravelry and totally get what you're saying. This actually increases my interest in the Cocktail and doesn't deter me. I see it as a "challenge accepted" moment. I imagine the issue is from the ratio of stitches picked up from the neckband for the body. It could be knitter error, ie. measure neckband incorrectly before pick up and/or design error and a not so great ratio provided in the instructions. I really appreciate you bringing this to my attention and now I will know to focus on this when I get to that point. If the ratio is very off, I'm not sure if blocking will fix the issue. I'll be casting on my cardigan soon and will let you know what happens! Thank you!

Hey, I love your “challenge accepted!” attitude 😊. In the case of my pullover, it was definitely too many picked up collar stitches …. Hmmm. So I should probably remedy that by re-doing the collar 😢. Ugh. Folded collar means a good 7.5 cm to rip back and re-do. Sigh. But thank YOU for mentioning the (very likely) cause of my problem. I’m still kind of a newbie.

No problem! Again, I really appreciate you pointing it out. I feel people shouldn't be afraid to mention things like that and help each other in this knitting community. This is why sometimes I prefer a neckband/button band done afterwards because if I messed up, I wouldn't have to frog the body too. It's all part of learning though. I try not to see it as time wasted and instead see them as learning opportunities. You may consider yourself to be a newbie but you've got a good eye on details!
