Alright every comment that wasn’t on my shaven face so far is on my sitting down comment so let me make a clarifying comment 😝 My attempt was to educate people who didn’t know on how most videos are NORMALLY recorded, including (almost certainly) When a Man Loves a Woman. I wasn’t trying to claim that Austin is incapable of sitting down and singing, but it requires A) a lot of training, B) amazing physical talent and breath control, and C) a VERY different posture than the one I have while recording. Most people cannot do what Austin does. So yes, Austin is capable of sitting down and singing, and he can do it well. AND, most videos you see are not actually the same recording session as the audio. That’s all I was trying to say :) I apologize for any confusion my wording created

They have some great behind-the-scenes videos they have released of their video shoots. Pre-Pandemic, they reserved these for Patrons on Patreon, but they have released some on KZread. You're right that they use the studio recording for the voices in the video. One of the best examples of this is Die a Happy Man. Austin will deliberately sing off key or out of his usual range (among other silliness), so that his lips sync up to the voice overlay.

Tim was not feeling well during the filming. That's why you don't really see him that much. Then the fact that he was being the guy's conscience. Austin's beautiful girlfriend Amberly was the bartender. Truly enjoyed watching your reaction to this song.

I wasn't one of the complainers, but just sayin' that Austin was sitting down in some of his own videos on his channel when he was belting the notes, and they were not done in the studio, they were done at his home. He might not actually have been doing it in the "When A Man Loves A Woman" video, but he CAN do it.

You know these guys all have sound recording booths in their homes right? In fact, in their "vault" series, they litterally show us how they sing under pre-recorded vocals in their music videos Then again, Unchained didn't require Austin hitting any impressive - for him - notes So it's entirely possible he can do all, or at least most of that song sitting down All Mortious was talking about Is that there is a reason Austin had to stand tall to hit the kind of notes he did in something like Bring Him Home

Yes, Austin frequently sits in his solo videos and he can certainly sing sitting down…I’ve seen him do it in concert. However the audio you hear in the video was recorded separately in a studio set-up in his house…Tim recorded there during lockdowns. And the few times I’ve seen them record there in behind-the-scenes-type videos, they are standing.

yes, what we are hearing is a studio recording but the reason their mouths usually fit what is being sung so well is that they do sing it while doing the video just so their mouth movements will match. From what I hear both Tim and Rob were a bit wild drinkers in the early days of Home Free. Both of them have since quit drinking. In live performances you will see at least one or two songs sung while they are sitting. I asked them several years ago if they use autotune and I was told no. Has it changed since then? I don't know.

Thank you for pointing out that the audio is recorded separately before the video is recorded! And of course, Austin certainly CAN sing and belt while sitting down, he does it in concert after all. But like you said, it's NOT how this works. These guys do such an amazing job at "miming" that it's hard to distinguish, but that's because they have done it so many times and their profession is actually dependent on being on point and on time each and every time. It is what acapella is, right!? They also use some auto tune and they layer their vocals. As they say, it's the fun part of studio recording, that they have more options and free range. If we want it pure we go to see them live.

Austin’s solo songs are recorded in a studio set-up in his house. The recordings were produced by Steven Martinez at the beginning of his solo journey and are now being done by Sebastian with the final mix by Steven. All of his Home Free tracks during lockdown were recorded there and Tim also recorded at Austin’s during lockdown. The audio you hear in Unchained Melody was recorded separately from the video (though he was probably singing in the video which is why it looks “live”.)

@@susanhorn4325 Thanks for the information, though I had understood that Steven was only producing the "proper" videos (Rest of my Life, Earn it, If I met You Now, Take the Night off) and that the production equipment was not installed at Austin's house at the beginning. I may be quite wrong about this! But there are recordings which are clearly not dubbed, if only because there are occasional tiny flaws in technique which no producer would be able to resist correcting. I'm thinking of the songs for patrons eg Love Song for a Vampire. There are others where Sebastien is clearly following Austin's lead, watching him like a hawk! which must be difficult to pretend - the piano is clearly not recorded separately.

@@patriciamcl54 When Austin started his solo project, Steven was his roommate and he recorded/produced all of Austin’s music, both the covers and originals. I believe it was Steven’s equipment as he was an up and coming producer at the time. After Steven bought his own house Austin would go there to record. Steven got so busy that Austin was having trouble scheduling enough time with him so he started recording with Sebastian. I believe Austin has purchased equipment (or some of it could be Seby’s) because they still record at Austin’s house. I am fairly sure Steven still produces the final version of the audio for all the solo music because sometimes Austin or Amberly make references to waiting on the file from Steven before they can release the latest cover to the superfans. This description applies ONLY to the music released on Austin’s KZread channel (and streaming platforms for his originals). You are correct that the video messages/songs that are arranged through his website for individual people ARE recorded live with a stationary camera, probably in one take. Since reactors don’t do reactions to those informal videos I guess it didn’t occur to me to include them in the discussion. When they film the videos Austin is singing and Seby is playing the piano which is why it looks so real but that’s not the audio you hear. They record the video several times and line up the files to edit them into the final video. Seby probably still takes his cues from Austin and therefore needs to watch him so they are in sync. I’m not sure how/when they record the piano track but I know other instrumentation can be added separately (like the steel guitar in Earn It).

When it takes 21 minutes to react to a 3 minute song, you talk way too much. Pausing every 5 seconds to explain what we can all see and hear is a disservice to your subscribers. That's why I'm not one of them.

“To explain what we can all see and hear” You know the reason a lot of people like my content is because they DON’T already know the things I’m talking about, right? Because my content is accessible and educational to even those with zero prior musical knowledge? Here’s a lesson for you that everyone needs to learn at some point in their life: if you assume assume that everyone’s experience is the exact same as yours, then your perception of the world will be very shallow.
