I only film in 8x7 now it’s hands down the smartest move GoPro has made!

This isn't a hidden feature, it's the most important selling point of the Hero 11 and the feature that was most talked about! 🤣 It has some disadvantages however: filming 8:7 5k + 10bit color takes a lot of processing power to edit the video, old cpus will struggle, so better make proxies. Throw hypersmooth + horizon leveling into the mix, and the Gopro will overheat REALLY fast and stop recording. I filmed a lot when in 8:7 when i got the camera, but for someone that doesn't do vertical shooting it's not worth it. For underwater it's worth it though, because sometimes it's hard to film and the more you capture the more you can salvage from the footage.

1000% agree 👍 that title is purely clickbait 🙄 I was like, is there something I don't know about my GoPro 11? 😂 That and the 10bit color were literally the things that GoPro advertised the most.

I've been a long time subscriber and your video editing is top notch! Keeps me so engaged. I bought the DJI Pocket 2 because of your videos and I've been wanting to upgrade my GoPro. This video may have given me a reason to buy.

Thank you! 😊 I tend to put videos about my workflow in the members area as it's not something a lot of people are interested in but there's a detailed video in there about my process. But good idea about the desk layout/setup.

apart from the problem with the camera overheating (it's about too high temperatures during work), I happened to freeze, sometimes not very smooth stabilization, because these things can be controlled or accepted. What I regret the most is that I don't have a preview on my phone while recording, it would be useful for me (sports), but also that to connect an external microphone you need a media mod that significantly increases the size of the gopro itself and additionally a plane accessory that supposedly can also cause performance issues... very good video ! 😀

I had a feeling this was going to be another advertisment for some software. I feel like a lot of these tech reviewers are now just selling out to get views. The gopro hero 11 has terrible overheating issues and yes your right you can't use external mic without the media mode so it cost you even more. In my Opinion the DJI pocket 2 and DJI action 3 are both better options.

I hear what you're saying, it's definitely an issue that a lot of people face, and something I've highlighted in a lot of my other videos, but it's not something I personally experience in my day-to-day use case with the action HERO11, which is why I continue to use it so much, and why it's one of my favourite small cameras. Have you tried using a usb-c to 3.5mm adapter for the GoPro? It means you don't need the Media Mod.

I shoot this 8x7 in my hero 12 sometimes and it’s really cool and versatile. Dumb question , is film convert nitrate a full editing suite? I’m pretty new to editing, but I would love to give it a go for my go pro and ZV1 footage.

I would be happy if they just worked everytime I turn it on. I had a 7 white and I got so angry. I threw it out a moving car.

I am asking and I hope you answer. What in your opinion is a good starter camera with shallow field of depth but can do 4k. Purpose: For youtube. Camera will be on a table.

Great content. I only film in 8x7 as well. Hands down the best feature.

Excellent presentation and dramatisation - I don't have one, I don't want one, but I still had to watch!

Great video, great cam. This mode is great for landscapes, helmet mounted stuff, selfie stick filming, cameraman filming. The only place where 8:7 has a negative would be for the people like me who are doing VLOG style and filming themselves strictly by their own hand (selfie stick is perfect, but I don't use it). I've done a bunch with the wide lens and it works (same lens used in 8:7...I didn't know when I bought it that there is no superview in 8:7), but I prefer the handheld selfie look of the superwide lens giving a little more clearance and surroundings. I'm guessing this comment only impacts a small amount of people as most people are using GoPro for extreme sports and such, but to the GoPro Vloggers out there doing selfie stuff its still the same great camera, but the 8:7 specific feature might not be as useful. But there is no downside to getting the new camera because the 10-bit itself is worth the upgrade, you can use 8:7 for 90% of content and you can use superview for selfie stuff or move farther away than an arms length!

Ive been on the fence for awhile trying to decide between the Hero 11 and the DJi Action 3. Do you still recommend the 11 over the DJI? Maybe I should wait to see what updated versions they release this fall. I need it for a trip next summer.

Great tip, I've been shooting in 4:3 on my GoPro 10 since I discovered the feature whilst experimenting with the max lens mod on a snowboarding trip last year. quick question for you, what frame rates and resolutions are available in the 8:7 ratio? I'll likely hold out for the hero 12, as I have a 10 at the moment, but curious to know what options are available. big fan of your videos, great content.

I usually film in 8:7 aspect ratio and use the free "Gopro fx reframe" plug-in for Premiere Pro to perfectly correct the wide angle distortion, what I don't like about that aspect ratio is being limited to either 5k or 60fps when I prefer to shoot in 4k30

Yeah, that's a good plugin. I need to find one for FCPX that'll do a good job of fixing the distortion.

The paid post stabilisation feature in the GoPro Player fixes the distortion automatically and the stabilisation itself is nothing else like it. When recording just switch off the gopro stabe and apply the post one. It was about €100 or so, but man, what a difference.

Hey Tamara you should look at the PolarPro attachments for the GoPro they are really decent even the cinema lenses.

Yeah Polar Pro in general is a top notch brand. Not tried them with the GoPro though as I have the Freewell ones, which are great.

I like my Hero 11. I bought an app for my watch to control it when I have it mounted on a tree or pole. Cheaper than the remote! I love 8:7 when I am still up in the air about the final format.

The problem with 8:7 is no horizon lock.

Ok, but the 8:7 AR also have big problems: no autoboost and no horizonLock.

Only downside is it isn't great indoors. Poor in low light. But since its an action cam, you're not really supposed to be using it indoors anyway. You're supposed to be out on an adventure with it. I have found the little light they give you in the creator bundle is enough to light you up if you need to film yourself in a dark room though.

💯 It’s the perfect camera for when you’re out and about, rather than filming indoors.

With an image scale of 100%, a gopro video, even in 5k, looks like FHD. Tamara, please upload more Gopro samples to your dropbox. But according to the examples that are already there, the video looks like a stretched FHD.

I did not understand why this video now, but then I realized of course, its an infomercial for Film Grain. No I'm not a hater but a big fan of your channel. Just saying.
