The Wire would be a good pick. The first season is stellar, but it does take a while for it to get going. It's not until the midpoint in Season 2 where the show really starts to fully come alive, and the show just kept getting better from there. The fifth season was still pretty good, but it wasn't the best. It was hard to top the fourth season, but at least the show ended on a high note.

Northern Exposure... It would also make a VERY good Day It Died series, because the last season is very divisive. It's a great show and very intelligent. It's about quirky, small town Alaska. With the main character being fish-out-of-water Doctor from NY. It's like if Twin Peaks didn't have murder, the FBI and supernatural evil, but instead was just about the eccentric characters going about their lives.

In a show with so many heartbreaking scenes, the one that got me the most was the screaming match between Carmy and Richie at the end of season 2. When Richie started yelling "I love you!" in response to Carmy's insults, I thought they were going to be able to de-escalate, but Richie's "I love you!"'s fell on deaf ears and, like real-life, it only escalated, yanking the rug right out from under me. Season 3 can't get here soon enough.

I like it too, but there's absolutely no way he went from cleaning forks to being some professional expo guy in JUST ONE WEEK. They showed him digging the restaurant out of the hole when things got crazy and Carmy was stuck in the freezer, but they were backed up sooo much and they made it seem like within 20 minutes everything was back on track. Absolutely no way that could happen. I liked the arc and him realizing his potential and worth, but it was way overblown and unrealistic. It's a show, I get it, but they keep things pretty believable. This wasn't one of them.

I always thought the potato scene with Tina was less that she was doubting herself, and more that she’d been being so rude and petty to Sydney and expected that same energy back. Like she’d fucked with Sydney so Sydney was gonna say her potatoes were shitty just to be petty and make her do it again. But Sydney was just straightforward and casual about it.

I love those closing moments, too - the sudden serenity of Carmy’s smile (little brother to big brother - & a glimpse of what might have been) As well, there’s the United Family vibe at Family Meal - made me wish I was there! ‘Omelette’ (season 2) - apart from the beautiful tone of THAT scene, which shows us how Carmy & Sydney find comfort in each other - I love watching Syd make an omelette in real time! It’s details like this, & the bakery scenes with Marcus & Lucas (even the colour palette is reassuring) that leave me with a buzz of happiness: Rewatching episodes, I find more details to love - & the soundtrack is totally perfect: Simply the best, Chef! Thank you for your commentary: since ‘Drive My Car’, I’ve been a MUBI Supporter - I love the range of genres on offer, & always look forward to seeing what’s next!

Yes, chef! Love this show so much. And having "Fishes" and "Forks" as back-to-back episodes is a perfect example of what you're talking about. Chaos with moments to breathe and recover. I loved how the people who needed the most growth (Tina, Marcus, Richie) had either entire episodes or hefty amounts of scenes dedicated to them to show that growth happen. It mirrors what Carmy is always saying about some of the best dishes he's worked on. Some dishes take multiple people and several hours or even several days to cook. Sometimes quality demands time, and that's what the show gives to each of the characters. It's lovely.

The journey of Richie is also impressive. ♡♡ I love how the show slowly revealed his personal history and brought out more of his personality (especially in S2 Ep6 & 7). I was particularly impressed with how he remained calm, positive, and cheerful during critical moments when his loved ones were under great pressure (such as how he handled the expediting in the last episode of S2). Watching Richie sing Love Story after a fulfilling workday was a memorable scene, complete with a flying car and sparks that were very relieving(*´∀`)~ ♡

I remember during my first watch through season 1 that I had to pause and take a break for a few days around Brigade because the show was just so overwhelming in terms of its intensity. With Dogs I got the breather I needed and binged through the rest of season 1. When episode 7 opened and Sufjan Steven's Chicago burst on with the epic visual ode to the city I absolutely knew that this would become my favorite show of all time, the oner cemented that, and all of season 2 has vindicated those feelings.

I spent 3 years as a banquet chef which may not seem like a lot, but it was brutal BootCamp that taught me skills I still use today. After working in a kitchen, I feel like most movies and TV shows have been ruined for me because they don't depict what a kitchen is really like. The Bear and to a slightly lesser extent, Chef, are the first ones that got it right. I love this show. I just wanted to say thank you. I watched two or three minutes of your video and thought "I should stop. This shows sound interesting. Watch it and come back." So I did. And now I have a new favourite show with the best episode of all time. Not just in this show, but really the best episode since TV show episodes exist: Forks. Thank you for that.

Yes Chef! And I struggled getting into this show. I found the first couple episodes of season 1, so stressful and frenetic, that I stopped twice. And then picked it back up, back-tracking a bit each time. The only thing that kept me at it, was all the buzz I was hearing from people about how good it was, oh, and the Richie memes. That whole Taylor Swift singing bit was pretty much what got me to stick with it, that last time I restarted. I saw the possibility of character growth, and I wanted to stick around a see that.

This show is so good. I just hope the “stressful ep of the season” doesn’t become a THING. Where every season has to have one crazy chaotic stressful ep that’s even crazier than the last seasons one. That could become a little too much of a “schtick” imo. But again wtf do I know. This show rules. The writers and show runners know what they’re doing.

The episode of Marcus abroad was so beautifully quiet. It really gave me time to sit with my feelings and think about everything I was seeing on screen. The scenes when Marcus saves the cyclist and the one where he and Luca are just chatting felt so real and emotinally significant, I had to rewatch them.

In defense of Tina, she has 20+ years of experience, it wasnt her ''first day'' of hard work. Sydney came off as pretentious to her, as better than.. at least she thought so not because she thought she was shitty, though that's how people treat lower income ppl, people of color, and women... There is a culture in those humble restaurants just as valid as the high end ones even if it's more home cook style. So yeah she felt intimidated by the skills and training probably too but it doesnt mean she wasnt good just cause she didnt have a institution level education
