I have had several people ask for the cut list on this desk, so here it is! Top: 30 3/8" x 11 1/4" Hinged top: 30 3/8" x 11 1/4" (If you want to make this piece overhang the front a little, add 2 inches or so to the width) Both sides: 22" x 7" Front: 28 x 3 7/8" Back: 28 x 7" Front legs: 1 9/16" square, 28 5/8" long. Back legs: 1 9/16" square, 30 7/16" long. For the trim, I just made some 45 degree triangle strips with my table saw. Then I used the saw to blunt the edges. The thickness of all of the wood, except the legs, was about 7/8". To make the bevel on the side pieces, measure 11 5/16 from the back and make a mark on the top edge. Then, measure 4 5/16 from the bottom of the front of the same piece and make a mark on the front edge. Draw a line between those two marks and make the cut. If you use a miter saw, it's a 14 degree angle. Of course, there are a ton of different ways to make this desk. If you make one, send me a picture at falllineridge@gmail.com. I would love to display some of them on a future video. Thanks to everyone for your interest in this project. Hope yours turns out great!

That is beautiful the way those knots worked out on the back of the desk. You have done an absolute beautiful job building (I mean creating) that desk......you remind me of how my father always worked on his wood projects, everything had to be just perfect and even to the way he handled the wood, almost like he was handling a precious stone. Great job............beautiful work......everything was so much like my dad does it that I could almost predict the little trick of blowing on the nail to make sure there was no sawdust in the way.......Thanks..i always felt like I was learning from the BEST❤

I agree that the straight grain of the quarter sawn boards is beautiful. I really hope the remaining pith in the middle of them doesnt cause you any issues though. Beautiful build!

I must say, as an aspiring wood worker himself, you really produce some beautiful things. The care you put into building your pieces, albeit the big chicken coup that I'm following right now, are truly second to none. I really enjoy watching your videos and the things you make. I appreciate all of it.

Nice job, I think I would have cut the pith out of the middle of the boards and joined them back together giving you quarter sawn across the board.

Great project! I really enjoy the raw simplicity of old pieces like that and I appreciate you didn't try to pretty it up with fancy joints. Save those for other projects. When I'm done with my winter projects I may do one like this. It would be ideal as a first project for hand tools only.

That is some awesome pine, surprised to see nails but I suppose true to original. You might want to chamfer the ends/feet of your legs. It will prevent the squeaking on sliding across the floor and prevent the corners of the legs splitting off when moving it around. Great project!

After reading previous comments, I have to add this: instead of making it out of wood, you really should have just done a 3D scan, cleaned it up with cad-cam, then printed it on a half million dollar printer. Now THAT'S the future of furniture building! (Seriously, you did a great job re-creating a classic old piece. Ignore the negative comments.)

Like many listed below I had a desk like that in school with the ink well in the upper right hand corner, and it was anchored to the floor with wrought iron side pieces. and while your point was missed by few below, I appreciated the hand drill/ "forged" nail look, and what could be done with simple tools There are a lot of people out there that don't have "full fledged shops, with all the latest tools, saws etc. " so you showed how it can be done with simple tools and caring for what you do. Thanks for doing the video, and above all Thanks for sharing. well done.

It is a beautiful desk. Although I do agree with some of these other posts, you made a carbon copy of the vintage desk, other than a couple of bevel cuts, this is like the third week in wood shop class in high school. It's pedestrian shop work at the best. You had opportunity here it improve on the makers simplistic design. Even shaker versions of this simple desk had dovetails and turned spindle legs. But hey, you are making a desk, and I'm complaining while watching you build it. Great project. Can't wait for the next video. Love your stuff.

Nice job, really like the whole "from scratch" concept save for what I have seen some others comment on too, which was the opportunity to make the piece using other joinery methods. I believe that would have still made the same desk, at least in spirit, while making it yours as well. Regardless, it is a nice piece that perhaps someday someone will want it make a copy of as well.
